One thing to note about 32-bit float recording is that you still can clip and distort at the actual lav mic level, example the microphone capsule that my actress was wearing had not the best SPL level so when I went to get the 32-bit recording it was still distorted because the actual mic capsule wonked out
Never really wanted one of the many wireless mics for my projects until now. They always sounded pretty bad to me and the big brick was basically impossible to hide but after seeing this… ESPECIALLY that 32 bit float audio… I’m sold
I've been watching your videos for some time now and had built the courage to make a quick film while I was in Japan. I've only just posted it and I am quite happy with it.
I have an upcoming film for school, and i'm highly considering using the DJI mics for audio -- I'm glad you tried this first. It's nice to know there are ways of ironing out details in post and with ADR
Just saw Somnium at Heartland Film Festival and saw you edited the film! I really enjoyed it and got to briefly meet the director after. Had a great time with the movie!
wow, congratulations. I was looking for information to move forward with an idea I have and I want to film a pilot, I want to do it with a cell phone, and as always the sound is an issue. I am going to buy the DJI MIC 2, and the DJI lavaliers, I was thinking about the Senheiser but they are out of my budget. Excellent work. Congratulations.
I fortunately was making a black & white short back in 2008 where the wireless condenser mic wasn't very good, so, I was able to stick my wireless lav onto my actor who was wearing a black suit jacket in a darkly lit scene. You'd never know, especially as it was shot on standard def. However, a later project had use using higher end mics taped under an actors' shirt, and we got a lot of rustling from the fabric. Had to ADR portions of it. Sadly, that project never finished shooting. On some other projects we would do a lav mic and a shotgun to have options.
YOOOOOO, What was that audio editing you did in 23:01? I really need help with it cuz im doing one-man band doc here and there and audio editing takes ages to sound good. Also for anyone wondering if they should plug the DJI Mic 2 on ANY on camera or shotgun microphones, it works and it doesn't. You will get interference most of the time so record on TX
Great video once again Kent! If I may ask, what kind of headphones are you wearing here? 1:47 would you recommend those for the job your doing? Thanks.
I've been using these for 6 years, sound isolation isn't the best so if the set is noisy it might be tough to catch noise in your audio, but otherwise no complaints - amzn.to/40b0fxM
Cool! Helpful video! Did you have any issues with latency? When recording into my camera via the transmitter vs the receiver recording, I noticed a very slight discrepancy. Easy enough to adjust in Premiere. But is that something you dealt with on this?
Love your project. But if you wanna dive deep into the filmmaking, buy a set of tiny Lavalier and a proper lav concealer for that specific Lav like those produced by Bubblebee Industry. Anyway, good work.
@@StandardStoryCo Exactly. I always record to the camera and locally. I have never used the safety track unless it was with the first-generation DJI Mic.
so when you do the 180-degree rule, why is the door fully opened when the camera is facing you and slightly closed when the camera is facing her. Continuity in edit
How are they at holding a signal/interference? The DJI Mic 1 has such terrible interference that the signal would intermittently drop at 15 feet. I kid you not. I’m surprised there wasn’t a recall. Kids play toy walkie-talkies have better performance
I really like your videos... .. and you said about having good audio... But.. Could you please not have any random Muzak in the background.. (why other creators have tink tink Muzak.. I don't watch them) It ruins the audio and makes it impossible to listen to And gives me Tinnitus, which is now whistling 🤬 Having music or sound effects to enhance at appropriate moments is great.. Just like a film 😻
Love how you couch these sponsored product reviews in actionable filmmaking advice. There truly isn't anyone like you on the platform. Thanks Kent!

Seeing how you troubleshoot problems during shooting is super helpful!

32-bit float + auto-record are so nice when you can't have a dedicated sound person

Thank you for showing that pros make mistakes but also that there are easy solutions. Incredible work as always thanks!
If your model of lav mic lets you remove the foam wind cover, doing so would minimize the size.
No gusts of air or plosives under clothing. :)
Literally the video I needed before a small documentary shoot this weekend. Thanks Kent! Value as always.
Glad to hear, good luck on the shoot!
I loved seeing the ADR session, lol. That was very informative.
i respect the grind bro. respectful review without feeling like a dick about it. love your videos.
Agreed
Really helpful video on setting up the Mic 2! Thanks.
Wonderful stuff. I split my clips audio in project panel before it hits timeline. Keep up good info...

I’d love to see a video on which plugins you use (especially for adobe software)!
Oh that could become a rabbit hole, depends on what tool is needed for the job
@@StandardStoryCo I await the 10+hr long special then lol
Can you do a video on how to get distribution for your movie?

Very insightful!
Also is there a way to listen to iPhone audio live with rode videomic tng?
hello, you think using wireless mic is better than booming or using a shotgun mic (if you're given the option to 3 situations)

Nope
Gonna need a breakdown on all of the goodies on your desk. Lol

Why would you need a safety track on a 32-bit float recorder?
Audio w/ safety track goes to the receiver/camera, 32-bit float is recorded internally in the transmitter.

I love the Mic 2, but I PASSIONATELY HATE the stupid wind reduction feature. I’ve accidentally turned it on and ruined perfectly good takes.
Love the moleskin tip! Thanks 📸

Why pay so much money for the wireless mic, just to use the cheap lav mic?
Only 9 views in 1 minute. Bro fell off…
