Indeed , Driving through Rural America - Refreshing - Relaxing . Better then New York City ; Los Angeles ; San Francisco ; Seattle ; Chicago. [ No Mobs .]
When I was a kid, my grandfather would take me by cattle ranches. When I asked what that smell was, he would always say that it was the smell of money!
Hey russ. I too prefer to travel the smaller routes instead of the interstate fwy when I can. Nice to see rural America. Much easier to stop and see stuff.
Back in the 90's a lot of dairy operators from California moved to that area, plus some from overseas. Not sure about now, but used to raise a lot of peanuts . Cannon used to be a F111 base, but it is Special Operations now. Several different types of drones and others. Fort Apache over by Show Low is an interesting place.
Thanks for the ride. If things get back to normal next year, I plan to be out that way for the Whippet National in Albuquerque, NM. Looks like a great place to travel. Be safe!
Great scenery Russ. Hey, I doubt if it would be open, but if you are going through Albuquerque at a later date check out the Unser Museum. All kinds of cool cars and memorabilia from the famous Unser family. Such a cool place. Very well done. Safe travels Man.
Hi Russ, this is the route I take to get from Toronto, Canada down to Yuma for snowbirding. Recognize everything in this video. Won't be coming down there this fall/winter due to Covid though. :-(
Hello Russ, I bet you could really "smell the money" driving threw Hereford Texas, he he. Isn't it interesting to see these towns along the way. The stories they have to tell. The journey continues. See You Soon!
Russ if you are continuing on 60 thru NM west of Magdalena is the Very Large Array. One of the largest radio telescopes installations. Very few gas stops till you get to Show low. Take care.
Russ, if you stay on 60 into Arizona you will pass within 1/4 mile of my house at mile marker 356.5 between Springerville and Show Low. Drop me a line, honk your horn or wave. Enjoy your videos!

In 1969 the family took a summer vacation from SoCal to Kansas. We stopped in Clovis, NM to visit some people who were our neighbors in the Sacramento area. He was in the Air Force and was stationed there. Then we headed to Amarillo for a visit with relatives , on to Ft. Sill OK , then to Kansas, and watched the moon landing. Wow, at 13:28 you passed the motel we stayed at. Funny thing, we just checked in and were hungry. So my dad went for some burgers while my sister and I went swimming. Just before we got out of the pool, it started to get really dark from a storm, which caused frogs to jump into the pool. Within minutes of my dad getting back, the sky ripped open with rain and very strong winds. It lasted about 20 minutes. Then my dad went to talk to the manager and he said the storm the week before blew the roof off the motel. Enjoy!
Don’t know what it is about driving through small town America but it never seems to never get old. At least for me.

Clovis is home to the Norman Petty Recording Studios, where Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison recorded. It's a museum now.

That's exactly what I was thinking watching the video. I'm from Clovis, haven't been there in awhile.
I live on family Hereford farm. Raise show quality calves. That smell is smell of home. I prefer not to travel on interstates.
Daniel Your Grandfather was right.
The Air Force Base in Clovis is where they keep the Drone Force. Been there and saw incredible aircraft!

The late great Buddy Holly recorded his early hits in Clovis NM....

Living in Australia , I doubt if I'll ever get to the USA so it's great riding shotgun with you on your trips. keep it up.
Clovis Man culture was discovered at Blackwater Draw about 10 miles south of Clovis NM.... hence the name.

Notice how the road went bad at the New Mexico line. Democrat run. This is to be expected when funds are going to questionable places.
