neah,we're too poor to deserve that:)....but actually they really should....over the past year i have evolved to do stuff on my low spec hardtail that some can't do,or don't have the skills with a more expensive full suspension....shimano alivio drivetrain,m445 shimano hydraulic brakes 160mm rotors, xcm sr suntour fork 120 mm and of course 26 inch wheels.....and it is very much ridable and enjoyable even though it can't compare to what these guys are riding.

you may say you're poor because you have a hard tail but I have a duel suspension and it was probably around half the price of you're hardtail

Can you guys review some coil forks and entry air sprung forks? It would really help some riders who are looking for a budget fork.

  • @RyanAlexanderBloom

I used to know a guy who rode DH in the early 2000s and his bike had over 300mm travel on the fork and over 200mm on the rear shock. Just a massive beast of a bike. Weighed in around 22kg I think. He had a “Xc” bike that he’d ride uphill that still had a dual crown fork and probably weighed in at 18kg at least. He could keep up with other guys riding 12kg hard tail bikes on climbs. I don’t think he was human.

I have a full suspension, air on the front, coil on the back. With the adjustments I made, the bike price is around $1000. So it's not impossible you but can't expect to have top-notch components everywhere, but honestly, for the casual biker, you don't need them. I have a Rockshox Recon RL and Shimano Alivio 2x9 full set and a cheap coil rear shock and that's more than enough for my rides with my buddies. Maybe I'll change the shock for a better one in the future, but still I would expect it to be around $1200, which is still affordable imo.

Fantastic channel so far guys, really interesting stuff. I have recently purchased a new bike and would really like to keep it in good condition. Could you guys do a video on a method to keep it in check?
    Including, but not limited to:
Washing the bike (Frame, chain, gears etc with product recommendations)
Lubing it up (What liquids and where they go; lube, grease etc)
Bearings (How important it is to check, how often and how to check them)
Overall tips to keep your bike looking smart every day of the week. How to check and clean forks and stuff like that.
I know it's a lot, but it is really hard to find a good video with a good routine to follow. Cleaning and lubing is pretty obvious, but what if I miss something and I find a year later that something has seized? Would be nice to have some suggestions.
    Keep it up :) Cheers

I swapped the suntour coils on my hardtail for some old rock shox pilots I had hanging around and its surprising how the reduced weight has completely changed the feel of the bike! I used to use it just for trail riding and to get to work but now its an ace little jump bike and general thrashing about,

Have an older 26" wheel size trek 4300. Rebuilding it as a 27.5 training bike.
Want to use a 80--100mm fork with a 15 mm axle and a straight steerer.
Not having a lot of luck.
Can get a fork with a straight steerer but with 9mm drop outs only.
    1.5 tapers have taken over!

  • @registeredtocomment
    @registeredtocomment 9 років тому +6

Steerer tubes come in four materials:
    Steel (which is an alloy)
Aluminium alloy (which is an alloy)
Carbon composite (not just carbon, that's an element)
Titanium (which is, you guessed it, an alloy)
Steerer tubes do not have a "fashionable" size. You might try using the term "popular" a bit more often.
Suspension forks do not have a chassis, they are an assembly.
And not a single mention of what they are supposed to do.
Can you get Smiffy to write you a bunch of short episodes taking viewers through the function basics?
You can stick any muppet in front of camera to read out what he writes.

it seems that you have a coil sprung fork....the plus and minus show the compression you can put on the spring...so it is like a setting you can make to adjust it to fit you a bit better...it doesn't make a big difference but turn it in the + direction and you make the spring stiffer(if you want a more rigid feel)turn towards- to get the opposite
