Thanks, I've spent way too much money at shops trying to get my chain to stop falling off and so far every shop hasn't made the fix, it's always temporary, so I've decided to learn myself, even though I don't have the tools or space
There are so many different linkage systems on mountain bikes these days. It would be nice to get an explanation of the pros and cons of each type. Which is better for downhill/urban/cross country etc.
You can carefully take the rubber/plastic seals off on some pivot bearings (with a pick or tip of utility knife ), degrease if needed and pack em up with fresh grease if you are going to take the linkage apart-they should be fine on a new bike. Also a good idea to check individual bearings by rotating inner part with your finger. They should turn easily and smoothly. If not, clean and lube-hopefully that will bring em back. If not they need to be replaced using the correct tools and know how.
Love your videos guys! You should do a video discussing the different suspension types and explain the basic differences......Horst, DW, Single Pivot, etc. Keep up the rad work fellas!
1:02 Dont pull up your Reverb if it isn´t fully extended. Otherwise you may damage your Dropper Seatpost because oil is flowing in rooms where it shouldnt flow.
30 hours then service haha! yeah right! 😂 dude if we followed all these videos to a T we would be spending more time working on our bikes then riding them. Not to mention the crazy amounts of money it would cost to "properly" maintain a bike.
Hi, nice choice of bike! I've got exacly the same and it is just incredible to ride. Can you guys make more videos with that one? It would be so cool because I could learn even more things about it ;)
+Global Mountain Bike Network Yep i'd like to know about getting the bottom bracket dirty and what our hubs. Also, I have an all mountain hardtail, what sort of things should we be looking for and where such as cracks. All this stuff would be awesome! thanks
you guys are great keep these vids coming cause yous explain so clearly. but I would like to ask what would be a good bike to do whinlatter blue and red route
A torque wrench is a worth while investment with a full suspension bike. Failure to keep the pivot bolts tight can lead to ware and tare of the mounting points.
Guys, I own a Scott Genius MC10 2008, but my rear suspension is not working properly. It seems to work "reversly" than other suspensions. On the normal position it is "closed" and it "opens" when the bike passes through an obstacle. Is there any other suspension that works this way?
I get play when I pull up the seat. Now I changed the bushings, but it's still there - suggestions? Note: I only changed the inner metal bushings, and the plastic ones seemed fine. Thanks
bought my first full suspension bike (Scott spark 35) second hand, I'm a pretty nifty mechanic but I can't get any movement out of the shock, not damaged, what's wrong? too much air?
I'm looking at a B'TWIN 540 full suspension bike but it says not suitable for Downhill,BMX Could you help me on what this means as I am kind of new to bikes
Hey GMBN! I was wondering what your opinion on Polygon mountain bikes is. I just bought a polygon duel suspension mtb and I quite like it. Btw I'm Aussie! Loves your vids! Cheers
Hi just got a trek fuel ex8 and have found some play in one of the pivots in the rear suspension, what should i do bearing in my mind i don't want to pay £100 for a shock service
In theory it's possible to up the travel up front like you said, but don't do that, it will mess up the bike's handling and weaken the frame. The rear? Not possible.
I simply refuse to pay my LBS to service my shocks every 30 hours. I'm sick of being treated like a wannabe pro - I just want bikes that work well and don't need a lot of maintenance.
Do you have any good I deals on a full suspension for 500 USD I was thinking about the mongoose Salvo Comp but I wonder if there anything better or a differnt brand.
hi! how do i know the lenght and the size? i want to change mine but i dont know which one to buy or how to buy. i measure the eye to eye lenght (190mm) but i dont know about the size, i saw diferents types like 51 mm or 57 mm thanks!
+Christian Venturo Hey Christian, That is a good start knowing the length of shock you need most local bike shops will be able to help with relevant shock for your model bike.Hope this helps. Cheers Marc
+Christian Venturo stroke travel(51/57) is also "important". It will change travel. But also changing length of shock is possible, some of the frames "allow it " or are design to be AM or EN. Every rear suspension have ratio of rear wheel travel and stroke e.g. 2.6 and then you will multiply it by stroke length 2.6x57=148mm 150 rear travel. got it? eye to eye is important because rear construction can move only in certain length. and by changing it you will mess with geometry too!! have fun
my rear suspension is making a cracking sound when driving. my cycle is just a week old so I dont think it requires maintainance can u suggest some possible problem I may be facing ?
raunak sharma brand new bikes has been sitting on warehouse for a long time so nuts and bolts is not that tight...thats why it produces a cracking sound...so go ahead and tighten those
Hey, could someone help me out? My bike weighs about 5 pounds and I weigh 100. I just bought a new bike but my rear coil is wayyy to stiff. I’m new to this I I didn’t know what new coil to get, my current one is 650 lbs/in. If you are reading this please help me find the right coil for me because my coil on my rear is wayyy to stiff for me and hardly doesn’t do anything, any comment helps me, I’m new to mountain biking and don’t know much!
Hi guys, lovely video...quick question; is it normal for a new rear shock to leak oil? My bike shop calls it shock sweat and says its normal but I am not convinced...personally, I feel oil is supposed to stay IN the shock and not seep out...what do you think?
Bhupinder Kumar leaking oil isn't good, try getting a second opinion from another bike shop or even look into sending your shock back to the manufacturer to get another one (could be faulty)
When i test my rear shock i hear oil or water is this normal the rear shock has been serviced 1 week ago i hope this is normal if not please let me know so i can let it fixed. ;)
HELP..... Hi guys. Great videos, keep up the good work. I'm on the look out for a new bike. I'm currently into trail riding, but want to have a go at enduro. I've got a 4 grand budget, what would you guys go for?? Cheers. From Tony in Sheffield.
ABSBARNES canyon spectral or strive (spectral is a 140mm rear 150mm front MTB and the strive is 160-170mm front 160mm-170mm bike depends on which model) or a yt Jeffsey or yt Capra (Capra is longer travel enduro, the feffsey is a 140-150mm trail bike- also available in 29") just have a look on those sites.
Hi Neil, I've a new Capra with a brand new Monarch RC3, but I have a sound like coil shock to the pression and depression. But my shock work very well, but I just to ask if it is normal that my Brand New Monarch do this sound. Thanks
Hey, I'm coming from a road background. So being fairly new to mtb, I got a question that might seem stupid, but what is tht little cartrdge attached to the shock and what does not having that mean?
+Global Mountain Bike Network when you set 30% sag while sitting, you get 25% while in attack position with the monarch debonair. thats how i always did it. i changed to 30% while standing cause i thought you messure it while standing. :)
thanks for great video. I have a bit different question. is there actually any bike with a rear suspension which can be rode by 125kg guy such, that the oil is not squirting everywhere around the bike after a jump? I own 2010 specialized fsr comp with Fox triad shock, and this thing just is not reliable. I had already two repairs in a year due to total oil leak. unfortunately specialized did rather good job in vendor locking and used a non standard mounting bracket for the rear shock so I cannot replace it by something more serious, hence will be probably looking for a different bike. any hint appreciated.
Try to replace the seals as often as possible and keep them clean, also try and increase the air pressure so that your not going that deep into your travel, hense little to no oil leak
That was a really good point on the chain length when fully compressed, gets overlooked a lot.
Just ordered my Canyon Spectral 5.0 earlier today, thanks for these tips.
Thanks, I've spent way too much money at shops trying to get my chain to stop falling off and so far every shop hasn't made the fix, it's always temporary, so I've decided to learn myself, even though I don't have the tools or space
got my frist full sus today. it's a 29" Marin Rift Zone 1. thanks for this!!!
just got mine a few days ago! Its a trek ex8 2010 model with marzohhi bomber z1 free ride and a fox damper (float ctd)
A scratchy shaft is never good.
There are so many different linkage systems on mountain bikes these days. It would be nice to get an explanation of the pros and cons of each type. Which is better for downhill/urban/cross country etc.
Go to the UA-cam channel 'andrextr'
You can carefully take the rubber/plastic seals off on some pivot bearings (with a pick or tip of utility knife ), degrease if needed and pack em up with fresh grease if you are going to take the linkage apart-they should be fine on a new bike. Also a good idea to check individual bearings by rotating inner part with your finger. They should turn easily and smoothly. If not, clean and lube-hopefully that will bring em back. If not they need to be replaced using the correct tools and know how.
ive found a giant full suspension and as long as its still avalible next week i'll be getting it
Love your videos guys! You should do a video discussing the different suspension types and explain the basic differences......Horst, DW, Single Pivot, etc. Keep up the rad work fellas!
AgentChachi great idea 👍
Could you please do a video on how to service your suspension? Great vids guys.
Thanks for the video. Just got my first full suspension bike for christmas and though i might revisit this video.
1:02 Dont pull up your Reverb if it isn´t fully extended. Otherwise you may damage your Dropper Seatpost because oil is flowing in rooms where it shouldnt flow.
What are the Box dimension?
30 hours then service haha! yeah right! 😂 dude if we followed all these videos to a T we would be spending more time working on our bikes then riding them. Not to mention the crazy amounts of money it would cost to "properly" maintain a bike.
I swear those seal and wiper kits will add up! 25 bucks or so every 30-50 hours. Eventually it costs the same as just getting a new shock.
Totally. When I was racing XC in the 90s, every 30 hours would have meant every damn week. It’s just not realistic at all.
Looking to get a fully soon.
This will come in handy.
DAMN that's a nice bike.
+Aaronmn7 Thank you.
+Aaronmn7 it is really good but it is pretty ugly
untitled untitled haha damn you've got some strong opinions on this bike!
That's Neil's astounding Canyon Strive 9.0 CF Race!
I think the bike looks great, and that bulky linkage has a purpose because it houses the shape shifter technology
0:56 lol
Haha
Rv90SplitterGaming - fuckin 12vies

Dirty
oof
Nice bike dude. I tell people who come into work to check out GMBN videos on you tube.
Man that blue paint is beautiful
I'm getting a boss nut v2 thanks this was helpful
love this channel guys
keep going
Vid on how to service dropper post/maintain it /reverb rockshox post? Cheers
just ordered my canyon spectral can't wait
How do you like it, I got the 2018 version!
Could you please make more videos on hard tail bikes including riding technique
My shock has a way to fill the positive and negative air chamber. What does the negative air chamber do?
Hi, nice choice of bike! I've got exacly the same and it is just incredible to ride. Can you guys make more videos with that one? It would be so cool because I could learn even more things about it ;)
This should help me in finding out why my bike's pivots squeak when the rear suspension is compressed
please show us how to fully service a thomson dropper seatpost
You guys should do a - How to train for Downhilll video. Would be interesting and very valuable. Thanks
Who's watching this who doesn't own a full suspension bike?
+Itz Buzzy we'll have a hardtail version coming soon! :)
+Global Mountain Bike Network Yep i'd like to know about getting the bottom bracket dirty and what our
hubs. Also, I have an all mountain hardtail, what sort of things should
we be looking for and where such as cracks. All this stuff would be
awesome! thanks
me😢😢😢😢
i wish i have an fullsus!!!
getting one in 5 hours 😍😍
What about if there is play on the rear suspension are the bushes e g on a giant anthem standard sizes .
My dad got me a $150.0 Genesis 26" men's mountain bike, It's greeeeen. :D
Dylan nah bruh I don’t got money. Also damn 4 year old comment
Dylan I know lol, it’s just cause you responded to a rare old comment of mine
you guys are great keep these vids coming cause yous explain so clearly. but I would like to ask what would be a good bike to do whinlatter blue and red route
A torque wrench is a worth while investment with a full suspension bike. Failure to keep the pivot bolts tight can lead to ware and tare of the mounting points.
Ideal timing for the release of the video

Nice tips! But what about lubrication? Shuld i lube the pivots after washing the bike? With oil, spray?
Grease!
what if there is a bit of oil coming from the shock? what should I do?
I want a full sus but I would need the sell my hard tail which has sentimental value
Do i have to lubricate the bearings of the rear shock and rear triangle ?
I get play when I pull up the seat. Now I changed the bushings, but it's still there - suggestions? Note: I only changed the inner metal bushings, and the plastic ones seemed fine. Thanks
play in ur seat
Should I use any lubrication on any of the pivot points?
you should mention solutions to all of the issues aswell
bought my first full suspension bike (Scott spark 35) second hand, I'm a pretty nifty mechanic but I can't get any movement out of the shock, not damaged, what's wrong? too much air?
+Paul Costello could be an old ceased shock?
Cheers lads! Yeah it was the lockout jammed on! Thanks again :)
I'm looking at a B'TWIN 540 full suspension bike but it says not suitable for Downhill,BMX
Could you help me on what this means as I am kind of new to bikes
Don't get that bike, it's very very bad.
Okay cheers
my mountain bike actually is 27.5 can i upgrade the forks from 120 mm to 140 mm ? and the rear too
In theory it's possible to up the travel up front like you said, but don't do that, it will mess up the bike's handling and weaken the frame. The rear? Not possible.
Nice demo at 0:52
I simply refuse to pay my LBS to service my shocks every 30 hours. I'm sick of being treated like a wannabe pro - I just want bikes that work well and don't need a lot of maintenance.
Bungle then get a fixie
Any good bike is going to require servicing for it to be a good bike
If it has tits or wheels, it will give you problems.....take that to the bank.
You dont need shock work every 30 hours... I did my fox 34 at 700 hours and it was totally fine.. I had the bike for 2 years now I ride every day.
Do you usually do seated sag? There will be a slight difference to standing sag (which would usually have the lower air pressure)
Vhener Alvarez no.
Do you have any good I deals on a full suspension for 500 USD I was thinking about the mongoose Salvo Comp but I wonder if there anything better or a differnt brand.
From what I've heard don't bother with full sus under 1000, buy a hardtail
+jetsgo66 Or go used. Check pinkbike or local craigslist if you're in US or Canada.
Well the mongoose bike has good reviews and looks and seems to be a good one so I will buy it.
+Sup3rNov4 used! youe shits gonna break
No it's not used I would never buy used.
hi! how do i know the lenght and the size? i want to change mine but i dont know which one to buy or how to buy. i measure the eye to eye lenght (190mm) but i dont know about the size, i saw diferents types like 51 mm or 57 mm thanks!

have fun
I have a lot of play in those sleeves what should i do service them or buy new ones?
+Tommaso Tulkens take a look and see if you can service them; lots of play could mean that it's time to replace though I'm afraid.
+Global Mountain Bike Network Thank you very much!
+Global Mountain Bike Network are there alot of universal replacement bearings?
my rear suspension is making a cracking sound when driving. my cycle is just a week old so I dont think it requires maintainance can u suggest some possible problem I may be facing ?
Check the pivot bolts are tight. You might also need to grease the pivots/ bearings.
thnx. I will surely check the bolt.
raunak sharma brand new bikes has been sitting on warehouse for a long time so nuts and bolts is not that tight...thats why it produces a cracking sound...so go ahead and tighten those
Hi Guys, Could you explain how to fix 29" wheels from bending and rubbing on my frame.
I think your wheels are too big for your frame
+Owen Puckey I bought it like that and it was ok for the first year but recently my back wheel has started to bend
+warren mann ok I will try that out
+Ben Smith I think you need to get your wheel trued or replace bearings or do something with the tyre
+BeatJumper 👽 they are true but they still bend
Can the SCOTT GENIUS go long without any maintenance?
Neil if you do read this, do you ride with a bottle cage coz I also have a canyon strive and cannot find one that fits
Hey, could someone help me out? My bike weighs about 5 pounds and I weigh 100. I just bought a new bike but my rear coil is wayyy to stiff. There's no way your bike weighs 5 pounds!

I have a rigid bike and got into mountain biking recently I'm saving up for a suspension bike should I get full suspension or just a hard tail
Get a hardtail, alot easier to learn the basics on and usually are alot cheaper than full suspension bikes.
+jaden veiga get a full suspension
both
Get a hardtail. You'll learn much by buying a hardtail. Plus it's a lot cheaper
Fully fuck hardtail
When i test my rear shock i hear oil or water is this normal the rear shock has been serviced 1 week ago i hope this is normal if not please let me know so i can let it fixed. ;)
it's normal. not a problem
Normal.
is bottoming out the suspension bad ?? will it cause damage ?
when its happening every ride it is bad but maybe 1 a month you donr have any oroblems
+Nick Hetzer *problems
okay cheers,
+Kye Wilson no problems ;)
If it's regular then consider adding some more air to the shock to stiffen it! Or if it is a coil then look to get a harder spring!
HELP.....
Hi guys. Great videos, keep up the good work.
I'm on the look out for a new bike. I'm currently into trail riding, but want to have a go at enduro. I've got a 4 grand budget, what would you guys go for??

ABSBARNES maybe try the giant trance advanced or specialized enduro. They are both great options in my opinion. Good luck on your search!
Hi Neil, I've a new Capra with a brand new Monarch RC3, but I have a sound like coil shock to the pression and depression. But my shock work very well, but I just to ask if it is normal that my Brand New Monarch do this sound.
Thanks
yes
Yes
Why is it that i think i bottom out the shock way to often even if i set it at 25% sag ?
You are probably pushing your bikes limits
was afraid of that :/ that sux just bought it recently :/
No problem: You just need to add volume spacers to reduce the tendency to bottom out
Put more volume-spacers in the shock 🤯
does this bike suspension locks while braking?
Hey, I'm coming from a road background. So being fairly new to mtb, I got a question that might seem stupid, but what is tht little cartrdge attached to the shock and what does not having that mean?
+guywithbeard that is like the extra chambers on car suspension, it controls how much air moves within the shock
It's the oil reservoir. Nothing to do with the air spring. By having am external reservoir it can be larger and less susceptible to overheating.
Mike Whincup is right.
I hace a question, that wheel size is best for you?
+global mountain bike network are you on the Mtb festival Serfaus Fiss Ladis?
can u do a lefty fork?
Which strive do u have
GMBN is that canyon worth it? Im thinking of getting one but the shape shifter seems unreliable ? Is that true
On the current strive series I was told that its a generation 3 shapeshifter and most if not all problems are solved with it.
Recent shapeshifters are reliable, not sure about the old ones
Make more hardtail class videos!!
I started with a full
what you think on the bike "yt Capra" endoru?
It's a super nice bike!
guys, my bike was stolen today... you got any suggestion on what to buy under 500/600 dollars???
A piggy bank to continue to start saving... jk hope you find it
i wana buy fs bike. how i can check if suspension work propertly
Give it a test ride!
what happened to a video for monday... I died a little that day, needed my gmbn fix
Can I put I back sus on a bike that doesn’t have a back
Can some one tell me what do u think about trs mountain bikes?? Ex: trs storm
Plzzz reply
Good video
Do you meassure your sag while sitting on your bike?
I do, some people do it stood up in the 'attack' position. They both seem to find very close results. Neil
+Global Mountain Bike Network when you set 30% sag while sitting, you get 25% while in attack position with the monarch debonair. thats how i always did it. i changed to 30% while standing cause i thought you messure it while standing. :)
No you do it while standing on your bike
thanks for great video.
You should make front shock
What bike is that in the Video?
Adjustable geometry mmm tasty
How to put air in the shock
Kevin Reid123 you need a shock pump, or a friend with one
*bushings not bushes
+Brendan Armstrong Pivots not bearings too
bushes in the U.K.
Alan Schenkel bearings wtf is a pivot
Id have to service every 2 weeks then?
I ride for about 7+ Hours a week... Does this mean I should get it serviced every 4 weeks or so? Thats a lot service :(
Blimbo i think they didnt mean like a full on service, just cleaning properly will do
Good bike, I wish i could have one like that :)
I run the same tire combo😀
V.I.K what is it?
how i can get a GMBN jersey like yours im from mexico
How much is it?
Can't wait until you can buy a canyon here in the states.
Why am i watching this?
I will not get a full squish until i atleast Win 5 races xd
can anyone please tell me this model of bike
I think its a Carbon Strive
Tim Lochner thank you !!!! :)
Yes.
*Canyon!!**
What size is ur stem here?
damian smith probably between 35-40 mm
I want that bike
