  • History of the Dispossessed provides a wonderful interview with Thomas Barnes who has been researching the Fahy family and themes of Evictions for many years. As family history detectives we often underestimate the power of our family legacies and how they can reveal life for our ancestors during difficult times in Ireland in the nineteenth century.
With just one thousand landowners in Ireland in 1876, land resources were scarce and highly prized. Such contexts shape our land hunger to modern times.

I would love to see if you know anything about Galway roots of Mary Fahy (1807-) and her children Mary (1833-), Thomas (1841), and James/John (1843-1881), that departed for St. John, NB in 1847 on 'The Sea' from Galway.
