CBN is used to grind hardened steel, normally above 45 on the Rockwell "C" scale. That would include anything harder than a cheap pocket knife. It doesn't matter if it's carbon steel, as long as it is hardened. Speaking as a life-long machinist, it's been the standard in industry for at least 30 years.
Nope, its faster unit,2850rpm but some cbn's are not for high speed snd some are ok.... Alu oksid wheels can go on both of type machines if not stated from manufacturer diffrently....

Now I want a CBN wheel 😆 im a flat woodworker, I know lots of people who use CBN to grind their plane irons and chisels (high carbon steel like O1, A2, T10, and so on). Laminated steels, like Japanese chisels and plane Irons, and a lot of old wooden plane irons use a piece of hardened high carbon steel that is forge welded to a softer backing piece, these will clog the CBN, even used on diamond stones they can pull the diamond off. It has to be a hardened steel used on this type of abrasive, not specifically a high carbon content steel...... cast iron has a very high carbon content, but it is not hardened. I dont use a grinder for hand tools, i shape and sharpen them by hand........ dont use the CBN for carbon steel tools if ya dont want to 😁
Hmm you just remind me of something with cbn that I need to dig more into..... I have sharpen as by hand when more on woodworking side....if I drop chisel to the floor then I took it to grinder, other times just hands and stones☺️ thanks for feedback ☺️
I am not sure why you had to remove your wheel guard from your grinder when you installed the CBN wheel. On my grinder I removed the outer guard and the wheel fit perfectly.
Cbn wont burst, and the cover is a tiny bit more enclosed then I would like.... The way I sharpen it to bring tool up the wheel so its sort of in my way👍 thank you for watching
I chose to move my finer grit wheel to the left side but that had more to do with shop space a disability. I was close to going CBN after a damaged white wheel until a club member had two unused wheels which he sold me for $20. I couldn't say no and am happy with hat I have. Especially now that I know carbon steel shouldn't be put on CBN. Thank you for researching that for us. Last, I like your Patreon/donation decision. I hope it is what is best for you and you can give it a try in the future if some time becomes free in your life.
Thank you Jay, it is best for us at this moment , maybe one day but not so keen on that at this point at least..... I could move it to the left but have more room to swing the handle if its on the right so its more for practical use....😀
Great. Super smooth.
Indeed it is😀 runs great
Excellent! And congrats on the CBN wheel.
Thank you☺️
Excellent!
Thank you😀

Thank you sir, so woodturning carbon steel can be sharpen on cbn? I think its harden
@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning yes. Mild/unhardened steel will tend to "load up" a CBN wheel similar to grinding aluminum on a conventional wheel
Is your grinder a slow speed unit?
Is a slow speed grinder needed for CBN wheels, or white aluminum oxide wheels?

Yes ! Ou avez vous acheté le disque CBN et l entretoise ? Merci

Good morning ! With the CBN grinding wheel, have you decreased the speed of the Record Power reel ? Thank you !😊😊😊
Nope, its the same speed from the box... I think its ok for grinders, just nothing faster
@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning merci !
Occasional sharpening of carbon tool steel should not be a problem, Tomi. I would avoid reshaping but dressing the bevel should not be a problem.
Thanks, got several comments like that so I think I'll try it👍

Поздравляю с обновкой! Томислав,какая у тебя зернистость алмазного круга? Хочу себе заменить обычный на алмазный.
Thank you Ivan, its b91 standard grit which will be if I remember correct 100grit...
Everything Ive seen says dont use carbon steel on CBN, it can plug up the wheel.
I found same stuff as well😀
