- Ok it was found in a garage not a barn, however it really has been in there for 36years with one owner and only covered 36,000 from new.
Known affectively as project Carla, the MK3 Capri began its design phase in 1976. Due to the projects tight budget, it ended up being a little more than a face-lifted version of the MK2. With updates being limited to a set of re designed quad headlights, a pair of new wings, a new bonnet, fresh bumpers and updated paint/interior options.
In all ford spent around £480,000 on the development of the third generation Capri, which is small in comparison to the £20 million worth of development allocated for the first generation model. To make up for the limited budget, for masked the Capris age through well-considered cash conscious trickery, repainting the MK2's chrome bumpers and exterior trim in a more contemporary satin black and using existing tooling to create the MK3's trademark "hooded" Bonnet.
This is a MK3 with a special story. She had been parked in a garage since 1987. Only seeing daylight for a couple of hours in 2016 when the owner sent it off for MOT (They couldn't drive themselves). It passed on only needing a set of tyres and exhaust. However, it went straight back in and has only come out after that owner unfortunately passed away.
We have uncovered it and offered it for sale in its very original condition.
The car was registered on 11th January 1984. Sold By page of Epsom to Mr Sutton. The only true owner. Sadly he passed in 1985 and their car passed to his wife who couldn't drive. that is where the story begins and ends. It sat being used sporadically by relatives for 2 years until, in 1987 it eventually ended up in the garage we removed it from this week. It's only covered 36000 from new, all of those in the 1980's. It's a time warp. It's a unicorn.
It starts, it runs and drives.
If you love capri's this has got to be the one to have right?
This car Did sell in our September auction 2023.

Started, moved, and ticked over like it was used yesterday. What a car ❤
Done a mot check 2016 was the last mot so how has it been in there since 1987 ????
It was motd in 2016 so couldn't have been in the garage since 87
I saw that 🙄
I did wonder there was a modern MOT certificate and the V5 is a new version
What mileage was showing on the 2016 MOT
13th April 2016 was its last MOT with a recorded mileage of 36,789, so it looks legit. Maybe they were getting it road worthy in 2016
Could have been getting it ready for road again getting it “recommissioned” again would have meant a modern MOT needed then it never actually got back on the road.
Perfectly legit for MOT to be done but never did go back on road so not used since 1987. It’s something I would do get a modern MOT if a very long since last done and car road worthy even if not put into use.
Amazing it started instantly the first time! You're very lucky to film that
She's lovely the 1.6 ls is a rare beast 👍
A true original . Wonderful ❤
Clean car, clean car cover, brakes not stuck, clutch not stuck and starts instantly, they didn't start that well when new, after that many years sorry I don't swallow this. The vid doesn't mention mot'd in 2016 but even then that's still too many years to match what we just saw. Also sunroof liner ? headliner? in a DHL bag?😅
Immaculate? Great history, great project but Immaculate? should have gone to specsavers🤓
Thank you for your comments. The brakes were stuck on a little but didn’t stop it driving. Fresh fuel direct to the carb helps to start a standing car. Genuine car, genuine story. The video is posted after the car was sold, so we are not trying to sell it. It’s just a lovely story.
Do note that this is an edited film. There are sections cut out or not filmed. So yes we have to do things like change batteries, fuel etc.
Also because something has sat in a garage for a long time doesn’t mean people don’t look at it or touch it. It’s just not been used for 36 years.
Easy to look at these with rose tinted specs the 1.6 was utterly gutless had 1 the 2.0 was better but for that sort of Dosh I would want a 2.8i or 3.0 Ghia.
They came out with a 1.3 engine. Now that's gutless!😅
Did she change his name from John to Jeff halfway thru or was it me? Forgive me for sounding suspicious but post 2001 font front number plates were not available when this car was put into storage. Seems a little suspect to me.
Maybe misrepresented, but still a good, popular( now) classic.
Strangely they traded a mk1 for this, i had a mk 1 which i preferred over this....
A wonderful find but after the 5th WOW and 8th AMAZING I switched it off
Looks like a genuine find to me bit of paint work and a good valet good to go
Anyone else want to say "Wow"? 🤪😅
Wow Super👍👍👍👍👍
der kleine Bruder vom Mustang😘
What did it sell for please?
Fan-tas-tic :-)!!!
I’ve noticed it’s not got the old style logbook.
Lovely car/ story but I couldn't give 12k for a 1.6 ls
Fair comment Mick but they are still appreciating strongly so probably already now worth 15k. Bare in mind it won’t need 5k worth of restoration so I’m sure it has already been snapped up.
@@philtucker1224 You are correct Phil. She is now sold and with her lucky new owner. Thank you for commenting.
@philtucker1224 true and suppose compared to alot of " fast fords" its a bargain 😀
My mum had a 1983 one brand new same colour cayman blue metallic 4995 pounds on the road amazing what they are now
In 23 years you should look in my garage when i hope that i will be 75. 😉
That would make a great donor car for someone restoring a 3.0s or 2.8injection. It's impossible to get factory parts like wings, bonnets ect
Please blur out their home address and name on the v5. Shocking miss.
Hardly a 'barn' find....more like a garage...
No way would it look like that after all them years it wouldn't start either my mk4 cortina 1.6 wouldn't start straight away
Thank you for your comments Kevin. Stored properly most cars will start. As with all of these things, we didn’t show all of the work that got us to that point. You will note we explain that we have change the fuel and battery. We just didn’t film it all because it would have made the video extremely long. But it didn’t take us long to start the car.
Hope you changed the cambelt before cranking it.
Such a lovely car,if i had the funds and a decent garage I definitely would buy it. 😊
Not see air con vents
This is total BS I HAVECHECKED THE REG ON THE GOV WEBSITE AND IT HAD A MOT 13THAPRIL 2016 ,SINCE WHEN DID THE MOT TESTER COME TO YOUR HOUSE TO COMPLETE MOT
Started really easily and which seems like bs to me.
I like the bit near the end where from the drivers seat says "immaculate" right next to the glaringly obvious dent in the rear wheel arch.
First time outside in 36 years thing seems fishy
And the fake surprise seeing it first time / first start just looks like not being truthful / downright deceitful.
Typical car salesmen.
Nice car though, not knocking that part.
I've had two 1.6 LS capris in the past, I always liked the deep dish steel wheels that only came fitted to them.
Thank you for your comments. When filming there are always multiple takes, so sometimes we have to view the car multiple times. If something goes wrong we have to start all over again. So you are correct, we had seen the car prior. But that is the nature of filming. We are trying to capture the essence of the moment.
Nothing deceitful about the car. It was stored well. Sometimes cars do store well.
The steel wheels were amazing. They looked brand new. Glad you appreciated the car.
This barn find phrase is abused to the max on UA-cam no such thing exists these days 😂
Belter
They all stert that easily.... 🙄
No seized wheels, no mold on the inside. Total BS.
Stored properly cars don’t seize. There is a little mold inside but nothing you could see on the camera. Appreciate your view, but unfortunately you are incorrect.
@HansonsClassic Total BS. Hasn't moved in all them years.
You are entitled to your opinion. Bless you.
@HansonsClassic Not an opinion, I've been around cars long enough and this was fake.
Why not come down and take a look for yourself, we can show you how genuine this is.
I think someone speak with forked tongue
Ok....boring though!
horrible to drive brakes useless , wouldn’t pull a skin off rice pudding dreadful seats only any good for the shell , throw the rest away 😂😂😂😂
Scam
Probably 136k miles
