Explain me this: If you put ice cubes in a full glas of water and it starts to melt, the waterlevel stays exactly the same...so how does the sealevel raising has anything to do with "global warming" and melting ice...
If you add ice cubes to water, and it melts, it will add more water. The ice is no longer above the water, it becomes part of it. Glaciers are in mountains, they aren’t part of the ocean water. Antarctica’s largest iceberg is above water. When glaciers melt from the mountains and into streams and oceans, it increases the volume of water in the ocean. Same with the giant icebergs that sit high above the sea, when they melt, that volume adds to the oceans volume.
We caused this particular change. Companies burning and dumping waste. Fossil fuels still being used. Those changes happened over thousands of years. Not ten or even one hundred.
@whitebreadmp yeah I looked it up. Because wayer expands when it freezes and shrinks when it melts bit there's a lot of ice that's on land that will add to ocean water if it melts.
@@riverbendreptilesthe amount of water/H2o remains the same… - when it freezes the particles expand or take up more area. So if it’s in a container with little space then the plastic or aluminum is forced to expand - when it shrinks back to its original state or the particles constrict or return to its original form then the container will remain expanded in the case of aluminum or slightly stretched in the case of plastic. BUT the water/h2o isn’t taking up less space
