Im impressed by your production skills, well done. How are you keeping up while shows are not happening? Anything new you are doing next to Drum & Bass?
"This is Drum & Bass, so we can do whatever the hell we want" That quote should be the "official" slogan for DnB. lol But man, regarding the breakdown, where do you get the time to crank out such awesome and complex tunes in such quick succession....? Btw Ex Machina was the first vinyl purchase I made in over 15 years... Way to go Metrik my man. Much Love from Detroit!

@@GemPotagueule that's a great thing about music right? Everyone can have their own opinion. I also agree with OP about the "full" album. I'm so impressed by the quality of production and the consistency of sound. So many bangers in one album. Not to mention Metrik used his own vocals, and nailed it. As he said himself, it may not win certain awards, but there are some pretty extraordinary aspects to the album. I don't believe many people could achieve its level.
@@GemPotagueule I agree, it's very good for a mainstream dnb album. But to say it's the best dnb album in a very long time is a long shot or shows how little someone actually knows the genre. There's been way better albums in the past few years. Not to make Ex Machina sound bad, I actually enjoy it as well, just would never even come close to think of it as a 'best' dnb anything.
Ex Machina is my favorite album from Metrik. 'Ex Machina' (the best track from the album, period :P), 'Thunderblade', 'Hackers' and so on are such great tunes.
Wow! I was just thinking the other day that I`d love to see Metrik give us mortals some insight into his process of building dnb masterpieces. Thank you so much!!
Thanks so much Tom for this walkthrough. I promise I'm not going to ask about your spectrum analyzers haha. This is a not-too-involved but not-too-basic walkthrough. Spot on! Very inspiring, and a tip to watchers and budding producers: TAKE NOTES.
Hi mate. Came across a couple of your older tracks a couple of years back,ad only this week discovered EX Machina. Listened to the whole album from start to finish and was utterly blown away. I put in an order for a vinyl copy this week. Just wanted to say: top work! looking forward to hearing your future concoctions. The masterclass video above was really inspiring and you seem like a really genuine guy. Might even get me back into dabbling with making some tracks again, so nice one! All the best. Peace x
Omg, I've discovered you like one week ago, was pretty obsessed with this song. As a guy who plays alot with Ableton recently I was super curious how you achieved so dynamic and loud mix. And then this film appeared on my wall, lol. Life's good
Loved seeing how you use LFO tool and the latency thing was a key revelation. Also love seeing how you apply Trackspacer at full spectrum. I want to learn more about about good use of that plugin. Both you and Danny Byrd have much good to say about it. I am encouraged by your stuff and how many layers you have cuz I also have lots of layers, but how you control them for your mixdowns in inspirational. Thanks Tom.
Hey Tom, did you go to music production school to learn? I'm trying to learn Ableton at the moment, but am finding majority of the online tutorials a bit shit. This is the first amazing video I've found (obviously because it's you)! Thank you so much for sharing with us. You're the best, I genuinely worship you ❤️🙏🏼
Really great walkthrough Metrik! Really well explained, clear and concise. Learnt so many new things from this. Hope to see more like this from you soon! Big up
Ok I'll just have to apply this in my future drum and bass production I guess ? Well better get going based on the master level he has ! Nice tutorial. Thank's Metrik. Keep doing bangers
I need to know and understad how and why you created "Time to let go". This track has hit me in so many ways, made me feel so many types of feelings but most importantly hope for the future. I need to know how and why yu made that track and how its meant to be percieved. Please reply!
Insane work! Such attention to details makes the track very so pumpy! Using LFO Tool for sidechaining is a great hack. Thanks! BTW Does anyone know what spectrum and phase analyzers used there? I mean below the video monitor. Seems on the upper monitor are Ozone visualizers.
I really find your work awesome... And sooo perfect! I'm not a professional but I'm always inspired by you. But when I watch this I feel uncomfortable regardless the work I do on my own computer. When I watch you, when I watch Mefjus, Neonlight and all the Artists I love I have a question. A really deep question. How do you manage to accept things not perfect as you want in your music, if you feel needing them but feeling unable to solve? I mean, how do you manage your tolerance with yourself?
Why do you use the LFO tool in sync mode with the offset instead of MIDI triggering? I use Shaperbox for the same purpose and on the Cableguys website they claim that when MIDI triggered the latency is not an issue.
Hey man, big fan. When it comes to your bass sounds do you change the width in serum or leave them default? It's just ive noticed as standard they are set at 100 each side which seems super wide.
Hey Luke, thanks for reaching out and good question. The main bass patch in this was just 1 oscillator with no unison so in this case no width adjustment required. I do however sometimes control the width setting in Serum depending on the patch. More often though I prefer to adjust width using something like Izotope Imager to control individual bands or a M/S EQ for even greater precision. Hope that helps 👊🏻
@@metrikmusicWhat do you tend to have on your master channel throughout your sessions? Do you mix in to anything and if so what sort of plugs are you using and why do you use them?
i ask cause it sounds kinda similar to some shuffles i heard in some sub focus tracks - thought maybe it was something available to producers, unless it was custom created
The track is a masterpiece, however it does not truly fit into any real DnB mood in a club/festival setting as it truly is its own journey. We may see some remixes though, however. The biggest issue drum and bass producers who remix tracks face is that their mix downs are always busy. Look at the care and precision Metrik places into the LFO tool to seperate the distortion in his drum sounds. Unfortunately, when remixers get their hands on stems, the wet stems don‘t work well with their track when they remix it and try to add their own flavour, and the dry stems don‘t have the drum patterns flowing in and out nicely, which cause sound quality and flow issues This is why we get some terrible, busy remixes. It isn‘t their track - and they simply don‘t put the time, love and attention into it like Metrik shows is here.
Hi everyone, hope you're enjoying the video. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comments 👊🏻
No questions, just love for you! ❤️❤️🦀🦀
I know basically nothing about production, but still enjoyed the video!
