My 2 cents: Gamechanger Audio's Motorsynth MKII employs a unique method to generate its sound, utilizing eight drone motors (along with optical plates) to produce waveforms. It boasts a sturdy construction, rapid envelopes, a versatile modulation matrix, and a superb-sounding multimode filter. At times, its character even evokes the gritty sound of a SID chip, making it truly outstanding.
However, here's the catch: due to its design, the Motorsynth is really loud. I'm not referring to noise on the audio path, but rather the noise emitted by the eight spinning motors. Even with headphones on and volume levels cranked up, the noise is noticeable in the room. Additionally, you may encounter several noisy tones simultaneously, depending on the pitch of the notes played.
While I appreciate innovative approaches to sound generation-and commend Gamechanger Audio for their exploration of new avenues-the mechanical noise of the Motorsynth MKII proved to be too much for me. Perhaps with enough space or within an isolated soundproof chamber, it could be more manageable.
Did you have an audio example of the in room noise? this synth sounds very unique!
Unfortunately (or luckily ;)) not @@jason.martin
Can't help but feel like those moving parts are gonna stop moving
Seems to me motorized mechanical components would be the weakest link on the “breakdown chain”, but if they forward designed for the contingency and made them easily swappable it’s not too bad a thing, I guess.
The sounds this thing produces are amazing. However, just a heads up to anyone before they dump $3K+ on it, take a look at other videos where you can hear the room like Anderton's. Those motors seem to whine like high speed dental drills and if you have issues with that, you may want to think twice. It may have been poorly mic'ed up but that sound was obnoxious.
Interesting but i will stick with a Opsix and bitzrazor
I feel that a DX 7 could do these sounds just fine. However, good demo, but a little pricey for me at this time. Very interesting synth.
