I used to degrade myself infront of my friends and neighbours because I don't want to make them feel bad about themselves and their lives but when the situation came for them they didn't even consider me and they won't ask me or please me for anything so don't lower your standards for no one. This usually comes from family teachings like respect elders, consider other's feelings, don't hurt others etc but in the process of doing things for others we take ourselves for granted and that's wrong. So respect, consider and be compassionate towards everyone including yourself.

I saw this this morning, it came up after my wonderful yoga video... it was exactly what I needed to hear. Telling the truth is hard because people don't like it. Telling yourself the truth about yourself us the hardest thing, but once you have done that, you're more willing to accept hard truths about the world, and pass them on with love.
