Wow 🤦♂️some ppl! Technology in any field helps to work smarter not harder - the tool to drive the posts in, can it be used to drive common sense into these critics? Love the videos - a lot of knowledge on your part...thank you.
Too many people refuse to open their minds and research alternatives to the standard. Working smarter, and maybe not as hard, doesn't mean you are doing less work or substandard work. I saw the original install video and thought it was great. Thank you for your quality content.
I got some resistance from fencers trying to do just what you showed for no dig vinyl. No one here; I met so far, wants to do it that way for me. Some laborers never heard of these tools. I believe it saves money for easy repair unlike the other way of digging up the old post and putting in new ones. I decided to buy the tool myself and get it done after checking with National Grid and having the lines marked before I start. Keep up the innovations to do some work in a safer, faster, and more efficient way. Especially if it can save your back from digging. Hooah!
I have been building fences for 31 yrs and finding your Utube channel was great! I will definitely implement some of your methods and buy some tools off your website. To all the haters out there who think you have all the answers. Start a utube channel and show us how it's done! You can always teach an old dog new tricks, and in this case I'm the old dog lol
May I ask, comparing vinyl install with cement vs the no dig with steel posts and donuts which route costs more? I assume much less labor with no dig but maybe the metal posts cost more than the cement?
Great Video!!! I'm glad you mentioned frost heave. I'm looking to replace part my fence because most of the posts either heaved because of frost or the previously owner was drunk when installed it.
Love all the videos and totally agree we use this same method on many projects and works great look forward to many more, Dan and all of you do great work from what we have seen
OMG! I have been searching for ways to install fencing . I live in North Jersey so rocks most likely be a problem? Then I found you Guys, you ROCK ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE. Thumbs up
Your company should come down to Miami. You're the kind of contractor we need everywhere, pride of workmanship and concern for your reputation combined with innovative techniques are a rare combination at this time in our nation and something that makes you guys unique. It's great to watch your channel.
What tool do you use to dig holes by hand. I cut several lines with standard handheld diggers. For the last 10 yrs or so I use a V-shaped bit on my little beaver digger and I can feel any obstructions in time to get out of the hole and see what I am coming in contact with.
One more quick question, because I was thinking steel posts would be better for endurance in Oklahoma; what would be any cause of the post rusting in the ground that could be avoided? I see that sometimes with galvanized fence posts; they tend to rust out over 10 years. What would be your feedback on that?
I have seen that myself sometimes--but not very often. You could always use some Galv Pro spray over the rusting spots. It would still take and immense amount of years for the post to completely rust out.
what's your opinion on Quick Crete? Have you had any experience with Quick Crete? That's commonly used in Oklahoma, and I've used it and their extra strength blend from Lowe's. Just wondering what if any your experience has been using them? I used some of the extra strength blend when I set a dozen auger anchors for my trailer a couple of years back, and it seems to have done real good. I have a lot of sandy soil where I am in Oklahoma, but I was wondering if you have any experience with it since you do fences for a living. I really like the video Dan done on this fence. i just watched it, in fact and saw this update video on it. My name is Dan as well. I liked the whole system they used to install this 6' fence. I might have to get some 8' post if I were going to do it in my yard; with my soil type, I may need 4' in the ground instead of 3, but this turned out really good in my opinion. I've been in some facet or another in construction all, my life, and I'm 56 now, but I've been doing electrical work for the last 10 years now. Must my 2 cents on it, but I'm curious if you have any opinion on the Quick Crete blend?
How do I fix? Hurricane Ian snapped about every other 5”x5” cemented vinyl posts at the ground level. I was gonna pull them out w/ skid steer or use a farm jack but I keep hearing the vinyl will break or post will slip right out of the concrete???? Could I just leave them in the ground & drive a metal pipe in the broken post & use donuts? I’m trying to avoid digging them all up by hand & re-setting them.
Not sure if you mentioned this, but the diagonal brace on the gate is incorrectly installed. On the hinge side, the brace must start at the bottom and run up so that it resembles a truss and is actually loaded when someone pulldown on the gate. Other than that, your work looks very neat.
Thank you! You're absolutely right that the gate looks wrong--but that's because they're braced on each side. The brace on the opposite side runs the opposite direction, so they can be installed either way. 👍🏻
Another great video 👍👊, I think you guys did a fantastic job , looks friggen straight and solid to me , that method definitely is cleaner and looks like it's probably slightly faster than digging and pouring the concrete , 👍
How about the diagonal brace on the gate? It started at the hinge side and goes down to the latching side? Is this because vinyl works better under tension than under compression? I’m not saying it’s wrong I’m just curious because if it were made of wood it wouldn’t be optimal. So to my eye it looks wrong
No worries, those gates confuse everybody who doesn't see them in person. They've got a brace on each side, and each side runs the opposite direction. That just gives us the most flexibility for install. You're right though--if that were the only brace it would be backward.
Thanks for being so helpful and informative 👍 😀BTW which fence product did you use if you don't mind me asking? Did not see any other videos but this one.

After doing this for over 40years you didn't short cut anything. There are many different ways to install fences. Just like you showed. People that do not do it everyday just see it one way. Different regions of the country can have diverse attributes. Soil type, wind, weather, and even preference. I remember either in late 90's early 2000s loads of aluminum fence was shipped from California to NC because the region in California only dealt with steel. Go figure. Always keep an open mind and diversify.
Done a good sturdy job in my opinion, I wish the ground was suitable for that style in GA, I'd potentially add that to my home and yard maintenance business
What’s up with the sloop fence hat? I saw Sloop on the Stoney ridge farm channel at the fencing competition. Aren’t they out of North Carolina? Farm fence solutions videos taught me almost everything I know about building fence. But your videos have been a big help as well!
I see now that you were giving a demonstration at the fall fence forum as well. That awesome! Thanks for the chain link info because that’s about the only type of fence I haven’t built.
Hey so I live In Northern California. It’s hard to get the same type of supplies out here as you guys have in the mid west and back east. People don’t even know what gripples are out here. Tornado wire doesn’t exist here it’s all red brand and baekert. Is there any place on the west coast to get all of the supplies like your metal U shaped posts? Whatever they are called lol. Maybe we should start NorCal SWI!
Yeah, sorry, I'm afraid I don't really know. You can order stuff like Gripples from our website (www.swifence.com/service/search/?bs_q=gripple&limit=null&page=1), which may or may not be cost-effective for you at that distance. Aww. You’re so dedicated and sweet. I love how you put in that fence, and I love your videos since I always learn something. Btw what brand fence is that? It’s so cute!
Use a wire not a string the string will break. I have been driving posts for 20 years I have driven post 16 ft. Deep on marshy ground. I know of a game fence in Louisiana that the post are 60 ft on the ground. The guys Neighbor’s laughed at the guy. When the flood came his neighbors fence’s were washed away his stayed. When his neighbors rebuild there fences they put there post 60 ft. In the ground. I think y’all did a great job putting the fence up.
Would you ever consider digging a hole for the 2 3/8 steel post and concreting that? Then put the donut and slide the vinyl over it? A bit more expensive but a smaller hole for the average DIY'er, less cleanup, and you would still retain the easy repair capability if a vinyl post ever breaks.
That's going to get more expensive as you're not offsetting the cost of the steel with a concrete savings. If we're pouring concrete we're just going to stab the posts straight into it.
too bad on the property marker. It's going to make the surveyor's job a little more difficult down the road when they want to confirm a property line. I wonder if one of the utilities done that when they were burying their lines? That's what it looked like.

Typically the post spacing for chain link is greater than the post spacing for vinyl fence, so it doesn't usually work. ☹
