    One thing about Zach and Hannah's sarcastic banter, it sounds like dialogue written by a 40 year old.
    Conan O'Brien says that kids in sitcoms don't talk like real kids at all. They talk like comedians. Just look at those cringey Disney and Nickelodeon sitcoms.

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  3 роки тому +3

      Yeah, I have to agree there. I appreciate the attempt to explore grief defence tactics, but the dialogue itself is too mature for kids this age.

    Nice review. While this movie doesn't hold up as well as I remembered, I enjoyed your video. Slappy is such an awesome character in this movie and so R.L.

    I like this movie mainly because I saw the goosebumps tv series as a kid and I like Jack Black. When you we're talking about Champ, I thought you were going to mention how at one point he straight up abandons the group to be attacked by ghouls with no remorse about it.

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  3 роки тому +2

      Champ abandoning everyone was one of many reasons to dislike him

  • @BazTheStoryteller
    @BazTheStoryteller 3 роки тому +3

    It'll be great if Stine wrote that Champ died in the book.

    TBH, I didn’t read the Goosebumps novels for their horrific aspect but rather for their fantasy aspect (my favourites being the 2 mummy books). I liked them a lot. And I liked that movie too. It was nice. It sequel wasn’t, but this one was. Happy Halloween ^^

    In my perspective, I was surprised by this movie as someone who hasn't really read any of the books. Definitely agree with you about Jack Black's performance as Stine, and I can see why you'd say the comedy is weak. FYI, though, if you call Goosebumps mediocre, well, the sequel known as Haunted Halloween was kind of a let-down for a lot of people, even for those that enjoyed the first Goosebumps film, and I think you might know why.

    Ooh, a really interesting movie for you to do on Puppet Panic is the Czechoslovakian movie Little Otik from 2000. It's live action, with the titular baby being done with stop motion (most of the time). It's dark, disturbing, surreal, and has to be seen to be believed.

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  3 роки тому +1

      I've seen little Otik, along with many other Jan Švankmajer films, but can't remember how often puppetry is used.

    I don't think it's fantastic but if I had kids and they wanted to watch it I would put it on but I would proberly show them either Toy Story, Paddington or Sonic The Hedgehog 2020 before Goosbumps because they're better movies in my opinion

    Also, Happy Halloween! But that brings up this question: If this movie was mediocre for you, why review it today instead of a movie you actually liked (it kinda makes Happy Halloween not-so-happy to review something you didn't like so much, you know what I mean?) Did you like already review all the good Halloween movies or something like that?

      The first time I saw it, I didn't think it was that bad, so I was hoping for this to be a light hearted review, but re-watching it made me realise how deeply flawed it is in hindsight.

    My least favourite characters in this movie are the 2 cops that come to investigate the domestic disturbance, I swear cops are the most useless characters in these types of stories

    I think the problem is it's trying so hard to pay homage to teen centered horror movies that it adapts the problems that come with the tropes in this genre. The love interests that are reductive from a feminist lens of criticism, the main character who uses a story that has been done hundreds of times, and the 'best friend' who won't shut up. These tropes are all played straight that rather than redefining its genre or paying tribute, it just fades in the background of stories of its kind. Jack Black's performances and Slappy are really the only reasons to watch this movie. I would recommend the Goosebumps TV series since it does do away with the flaws of the books, and has episodes that are genuinely scary, and funny (sometimes unintentionally).

      I did enjoy the TV show way more than the books. I loved the vampire episode so much that I asked my dad to make my own coffin haha!

    5:50 Being that the reason the writers has them freeze everyone in town (besides the high school) mainly so nobody actually DIES in this kids movie you shouldn't be that relieved since the frozen people are probs the safest

    HeyJambareeqi! Are you enjoying the spooky season, movies and all the tasty candy? I agree with you wholeheartedly over the poor handling of Hannah’s character arc, it would’ve been a lot more powerful if her sacrifice was permanent, but instead of just coming back to life, her spirit could’ve appeared, temporarily turned human, to Zach at the ending, maybe smiling proudly and thanking him for the happy memories they made together, before disappearing back in the book once again, giving them real closure and a proper goodbye. I know it sounds cheesy and repetitive, but it would’ve taught the message with a lot more intelligence and respect, while still being hopeful. Also, happy Halloween!

      Resident Evil may have been released over two decades ago, and the voice acting is comedy gold, but don't let those fool you. The game still has jumps and is somehow the most consistently scary of the trilogy.
