I'm currently in chapter 77 of monster, when I clicked this video I was not expecting to see the mangaka artist himself neither was I expecting him to teach on his process of drawing. I am trying to make a manga myself, this video has been incredibly useful to my journey and your manga has really inspired me as well. I am honored to learn something from a brilliant mangaka artist like yourself. Thank you.
I think you can watch "Naoki Urasawa no Manben" that's a series of video that Urasawa interview other mangaka and record their process of drawing. you can find some on youtube but i guess there are no English translation
I’ve been writing a novel that I want to illustrate myself into a manga (I’m an artist with many years of practise so i felt like I could) but panelling and eye catching design is a lot harder than I participated. A cover art, sure easy. But a page? I need practise 😅 so I’m trying to make storyboards for a simple manga I’ve titled “BUZZSAW BAZOOKA” that’s inspired by devil may cry. Any advice? Thanks. If I don’t see it maybe someone else will and it’ll help them
Its amazing how you can just draw in ink without making any mistakes. Im such a fan of your work, and Monster has become one of my favorite mangas of all time.
Not only is Urasawa a talented artist, he's also one of the most gifted storytellers of all time. The stories and characters he has created for his manga are some of the best I've ever seen.
The reason they're able to finish Their Manga(s) in just 5 years or so. Their ability to draw is out of this world. Japanese Classic Manga Artists were something else.
Thank you Mr. Urasawa. I've read "Monster" when i was 15 and it shocked me for his brilliant storytelling and themes. Now i'm studing surgery at university and your opera was one of the things that made me keep up with my whole life thank you
Your works "Monster" and "20th century boys" are among my top 5 mangas of all time. You, sir, are one of the greatest artists of all time! You are one of few mangaka who knows an incredible variety of facial features I've never seen in other mangaka's works.
Hello Sensei! Thank you for the eng subs. My bf and I are currently watching MONSTER together and we can't get enough. Originally I had started reading the manga on my own, but it was too good to enjoy alone. All of your work is incredible!
"Monster" is one of my favourite stories! I am glad that it is digitized because, as you mentioned, the price will be affordable for a greater number of people. I really like my printed kanzen edition. It is a pity that Mexican publishers have not published "The Nameless Monster" and "Another Monster" Teach how to apply screen tone, it feels like a magician revealing his tricks. Simply fascinating. Thank you Urasawa! :D
It always surprises me how easily you can draw a character without a beginning sketch! Thank you for sharing your process with us! You’re my favorite mangaka 😁
Mr. Urasawa, of course this is useful! There is always someone out there that is seeking knowledge like this. This type of art how-to is very helpful. Manga techniques like this are not often talked about if not seen or written out often either. It's very much appreciated. Thank you.
I've been reading 20th century boys and I'm absolutely loving it. Monster is one of my favorite manga of all time. Thank you so much for your works Urusawa-sensei.
I actually learned a lot from this, I'm not an artist myself but I do love to do it for for as well seeing art from different artist and enjoy them. This really showed me how artist applied screen tone and the different ways you can do on it. It's really interesting and I really enjoyed the process!! Thank you so much for this and I can't wait for more!! :)

I have been testing with screen tone and this really helps. I need to practice more with it and watching you scratch and cut it smoothly really is inspiring.
The realistic facial detail is why your art style is my favorite. However, as amazing as it is, the storytelling is even better! GOAT
Absolutely the GOAT of manga
One of my fav Mangas of all time
imagine the artist just google translating your comment wondering why you called him a goat all of a sudden
@SonofYevon nah
@SonofYevon Crazy how he wrote friend and Johan, two out of my top 3 favorite villains ever in the manga medium

The manga that brought me to Urasawa. I will never forget the story of Monster. So good to see Dr. Tenma.
@Hi_Nu Ver 0 Zero_Tester Whats even more beautiful is that all of those are finished and completed works except for Asadora so far.

Urasawa sensei's advice is so valuable, thanks so much for adding subtitles!
@Mark Ryan Francisco 20th century boys too
@Mark Ryan Francisco I think its getting one but just delayed for a bit

dude doesn't even need a pencil for sketching. He just pulls out an ink-pen and draws perfectly. Absolute madlad
That’s what 50+ years of drawing does I think
