As a retired 35 year cop I recall lots of these. I would always tell my trainees, Don't look at that death if you don't need to. The sights, smells and gore never leave your mind. So sorry for this teen, he was probably having a fun carefree day that got away from him. Lost my own son 6 years ago in a horrific crash like this.
Vince, I’m heartbroken to hear about your son. Sincerely. I’ve experienced similar losses. But I’m not a father. And in my opinion that’s the worst pain to ever have to endure and that is a parent losing a child. It takes a strong individual with an immense amount of will to survive the grief and heartbreak. I Believe you’re the epitome of having the ability to process and get through the pain to eventually be able to celebrate them instead of staying in that constant emotional status. Much Love to you and your family. Keep Shining. And remember his laugh, it was contagious laughter. Keep an eye out for those “Little Hello’s.” I promise you he’s literally closer to you than he’s ever been. 🦁❤️🦁❤️🦁❤️
that last sentence hit me hard.. as i started reading your comment i put myself in the position of one of the trainees. I am someone who overthinks a little more than Id like to at times, and idk why i have such curiosity of what happened in horrible accidents like this one. A Boars Head truck overturned on the LI Expressway, 5 mins from where I live around 5am about 8 months ago & my friends brother is the towtruck driver whose company was called to scene...entire eastbound side shutdown for hours & i still never can forget the images he sent me. Very sorry for your loss
Mimi, I was a firefighter/Paramedic for 25 years. In some of the major trauma runs we had, we would have Psychologists help us with debriefing. They would ask when i recognized going into "auto pilot", and when we came back to reality. God provides us with that auto pilot. It is a real thing. Someone has to do this job. I am so proud to have served the community where I was born and raised.
It's heartbreaking to know the pain the family suffered from this. Our teenage nephew died in a car accident and it's the worst thing I've been through in my life. He wasn't speeding, it was just a freak accident. My sincere condolences to the family.
I was at the tire shop, getting new rubber for my car. It's a unique sports car, so it's gets some attention. While I waited at the window, sipping a coffee and watching the techs at work, an older man sat next to me and asked if that red car was mine. I said yes and we talked fast cars for a bit. He finally mentioned he was a retired highway patrol officer. Over the course of the next hour, he slowly shared some of the tough things he'd seen and dealt with on the roads. My car had long been finished, but we sat and talked until he was done. Thank you, first responders, for all you do.
Nice of you to listen to his stories, I did think you were going to finish up by saying you sold your car. I have a really fast car too and I drive it fast, but I’m not reckless. I’m sure you are the same.
After 13 years of working these types of wreck scenes, there is no denying that speed was a major factor in this accident, it's a hard lesson learned when it's too late to avoid the outcome.
As a paramedic I can honestly say that these calls take even seasoned first responders time to process in their minds. If people only knew, what we know, they would never speed or drive recklessly again. Haunting us forever.
Thank you so much for your service. My brother is an R.N. & works in the ER. And you're absolutely right, it is haunting.. he has told me so many terrible stories.. it's heartbreaking 💔 🥺🙏 You are all angels. Again. Thank you for what you do. Respect. God bless 🙏
when the dispatch says "code 1 or mva".....you just dont know how serious or severe this collision is......then when you arrive and OMG :((((........thank you 1st responders.
@@peteyca If they even save that much time. I can't tell you how many times somebody will go zooming around me just to have me pull up next to them at the next traffic signal.
I am a funeral Director and believe me cases like this are logistical nightmare cases! The vehicle must be cabled onto a wrecker and then wrapped in blue tarp. The vehicle must then be taken to the police impound lot where the coroner and other officials will witness the excavation of the victim. Quite often you need two powerful vehicles at either end to pull the vehicle apart. They normally take a steel bar and weld a bit to the impacted vehicle the best they can and then they use that to attach chains at both ends and then as the wreckers slowly begin a slow pull, the fire department will also start chopping away at the vehicle with the jaws of life while they attempt to extricate the remains of the victim. You will not find a Body intact but rather a crushed tomato type of scenario. You’ll never get the entire body out of a vehicle like this but you do your best. The last time I had one like this we brought A double lined body bag because quite frankly we would just place whatever we could get from the vehicle into the body bag. After that the fire department will spray a combination of 1 gallon of bleach and 200 gallons of water. The reason they do that is because of the biohazard and the fact that this vehicle will attract flies! They normally use a backhoe to dig a small pit for the runoff from the vehicle. Obviously the family will not have a visitation with the open casket but we will put a couple of gallons of formulin and the body bag and then encase the body bag in a larger disaster pouch. Putting that in the casket and then locking the casket down and that’s the best you’re going to get. NOTE: Sometimes the driver will see whats about to happen…. And dive for the passengers seat.. He/She might survive ! If rescue is near. Most of the “accordion calls” don’t. Secondly, as a forethought, it’s always difficult when we are working A catastrophic auto accident. But we no longer see any fatalities as living, breathing human beings anymore. We simply can’t! We would lose our minds. We have to learn early in our career about the difference between “ Life and death” in the biblical sense. The circle of life or the biblical Teaching that we are on this earth for a short time , and then we return to the spiritual realm. “ The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away” once I fell in love, and got married, and was blessed with my children, the gravity of my job became more and more difficult to accept and deal with. For each young wife, whose life was taken far too early by either violence or sickness, I would always put myself in the shoes of the grieving family! The hardest service I have ever been a part of was that of a young woman, who had stopped to help a stranded motorist, and as she was exiting her vehicle, she was struck by a car that did not notice her for some reason. She had four young children, and this funeral weighed so heavily on all of us, that those at the funeral home who drink alcohol went next-door to a bar and ended up having to call their spouses or a taxi to get home. I recall at the cemetery her casket was open, and it was what we call a full couch casket. This is a casket that opens all the way to the bottom much like the kind that Aretha Franklin had she had been dressed in a flowery sundress, and after almost 7 hours of reconstruction looked very relaxed and natural although, in these cases, we draped the casket with a sheer silk Barrier with a sign on the casket that says “ no photography please do not touch” there was a light breeze and it was absolutely beautiful day. Her husband and her children were escorted one more time past the casket. And her little boys were pleading with her to come home. That day I will never forget ! I started smoking again after nine years. If you do this job with no grounding, no faith, you will very quickly end up an alcoholic or worse . every time I talk to a priest or a minister about the death of a baby or a toddler or an entire family. Or like in the case of a beauty shop when some mentally deranged person walked in and killed five women. How do you put that in context? Why did this happen? These were outstanding people. The answer is always the same, we must all be prepared to leave this earth at any given time for any reason. Something about he who loves his life, will lose it. I have to just take things as they are, and pray every day, and do my job the best I can, and prepare myself for things that most people can’t fathom . Thanks
@@kennethwilliams-dl9gi I thought I saw what looks like jacks to raise the trailer. Makes sense to do that.I was wondering if they got the person out already but it looks like he was forced into the back seat of the car which is mangled.
I'm not, nor have I ever been a first responder (although I did lifeguard at the beach for a number of years), and I was unfortunate enough to be first on scene for an accident very similar to this. Driver was partially decapitated but passenger was still alive somehow. Nothing I could do but talk to her and try to keep her calm while we waited for emergency services. It was brutal, and will never forget what I witnessed. I wish people would just slow their roll!
Having to cut deceased kids out of cars is one of the absolute WORST part of being a firefighter/paramedic. I’m going on 22 years and every time it’s awful. 😢 Praying for his family, parents aren’t supposed to bury their kids, it’s absolutely awful. 😞
I can only imagine. An 18 year old hit a tree a couple months ago a block away from where we live. I was outside in our yard giving kitties some treats, and heard that awful sound. Its hard to understand how I heard that so clearly, from that far away.
My daughter is a firefighter in Colorado and the 1st call that she was on, was a Tesla that blew up. She said, after hours of trying to get the fire out, all that was left of him were a skeleton and ashes.😢😢😢
I live in a rural area and drove into town yesterday for groceries. The young woman in the car behind me spent more time looking down at her lap (obviously texting) than she did looking at the road, and was frequently following way too close. Every time traffic slowed I was afraid she was going to run into the back of my car. When I got to town and was sitting at a red light she was still behind me and she was still very obviously texting. The light turned green and I drove away and when I glanced back she was still sitting unmoving with the light green when I was half a block away. She was completely oblivious to what traffic was doing around her. Unfortunately, they just don't get it.
Not preventable when a semi just pulls out in front of you. Has happened to me many times and if you can't slow down enough your going to hit that truck and trailer.
As a trucker myself, I know what this driver will suffer thru. IF this accident is of no fault of his own, it won't matter. Once police or EMS is called, our troubles start. He could have been sitting on the side of the road, not even moving and he life would still be hell. He may loss all driving privileges. This will take a long time to clear up for him. I do feel bad for the teen who passed. It's just a shame to be in such a hurry.
@@lizhartel3740 I think it's just disgusting how the trucker always gets blamed. My husband and I were OTR for a long time and seen so many 4 wheelers doing stupid shit

I used to be scared of hitting a deer in my days of driving, but nowadays, I’m extremely nervous that someone is going to come out of nowhere from behind me racing and run into me and there’s nothing I can do about it. I’ve always practiced keeping my distance from the car in front of me, as if there’s a cushion or room for me to slow down in time if the person in front of me slams on their brakes, but how do you defend your self against a person racing or speeding upon you and smash into you when you don’t even see them coming?
@@Entrelanieve omg yes,, yesterday I was in the car and I saw this lady driving and she just had her phone in her hand and didn’t look up at all and she was like swerving. Prediction. Whenever I spot something moving fast at the corner of my eye (especially bikes) or reckless drivers I reflexively got alert and slow down. Also identify crash spots such as sharp corners, merging lanes, one lane roads, intersections ect and be more alert there. You can't predict everything, but it's better to be aware of your surroundings on top of maintaining distance.

Its called inexperience, and while one might die from a bad decision, thousands of others are on the road and live to see tomorrow. Believe it or not, the number of teens killed in accidents like this are far less than they were a few decades ago.
@@Michael15_25I am an older driver. Started on motorcycles at 16. Cars at 17 In the early days kept throwing bikes down the road. With car crashes it was. Here we go again. Haven’t crashed car or bike for over 40 years. Looks like I am safer now than back then.
Though I’m certain this will illicit an inane “OK Boomer!” response, I’m going to say it anyway. Driving requires an incredible amount of attention at all times to stay safe. Your body is flying through space at speeds it was never intended to do so, with the barest of margin for error, yours or anybody else’s sharing the road around you. All the airbags, seatbelts, crush resistant body design, padded dashboards in the world won’t change the fact that when the vehicle your body is traveling in at high speed suddenly stops by colliding with something, your body continues at that speed until it collides with the seatbelt, the airbags and then the interior of the car and then the surfaces at the exterior of the car and then all of your organs collide with what’s remaining with your bones and skin and then you finally stop in a mangled mess of flesh, blood, bones and organs. Speed kills and driving distracted for even a moment while at speed is a recipe for disaster.
especially for inexperienced young drivers. i always encouraged my niece and nephew to watch those "crazy car crash" videos when they were just starting to drive. so they could see and learn that anything can happen at any time. even if youre driving perfectly you can get sucked into someone elses stupid decision(s).

I drive by a truck stop everyday on way to work. The truck drivers constantly just pull out in front of ppl like they don't even care. Constantly. Not to mention all the immigrants these companies are hiring from other countries and there traffic is different.
As an owner operator, do your trucks have side and rear crash bars like trucks in the UK or do you operate an inherently dangerous vehicle with impunity?
@@angusmurray3767 we don’t have crash bars except a few trucks that run out west. They used to call them cattle bars, but only on the front. I was hoping it was very quick and he didn’t suffer….. but my perspective is different. I was hit from behind by a stolen car going 120mph and went off a cliff. I suffer every single day- but I am alive
Not horrible to be honest it’s was fast. Horrible way to die is burning alive not this. His family can rest knowing he died in a matter of half a second.
This is difficult to look at. I was in an accident just like this in 1983. I can still hear the sound of the crash and the sounds of them cutting us out of the car. It was truly horrifying! Fortunately the three of us survived without life threatening injuries thanks to the car we were in, a 1965 mustang that sat low to the ground, we were sliding in wet pavement, it felt like it was happening slowly we had some time to react and duck down before we hit, peeling the entire roof of the car all the way back to the trunk. I’m still absolutely terrified of semi’s and have a hard time driving, especially when it’s raining and I have to be near a semi!
to everyone saying the semi is at fault for not yielding right of way... he hit the rig near the back (after the rig had time to cross all the lanes of traffic to the curb side) so there was ample time to A) see a huge freaking rig pulling out B) hit your brakes... if the car hit the front of the semi then it could be argued that the semi "just pulled out in front of the car" but the transport had enough time to pull all the way out pretty much and the car hit the rear... transport was pulling out turning south, so, prob not going fast... AND you can clearly see the front of the transport is right by the curb. The description also says the car passed another vehicle... well, they didn't seem to be paying attention because it seems the other vehicle most likely stopped... I would say speed is the biggest factor here since it's pretty hard to almost rip the entire roof off an SUV... if I couldn't stop I would have aimed for the wheels to keep from going under... then again, the driver didn't even see a huge transport pulling out... who knows... sad for the family who has to endure this now...
doesnt matter where the semi was. the suv hit under the trailer. that basically means behind the truck's cab and in front of the trailer's tires. the suv was concentrating on passing the other car and not noticing what was transpiring ahead on the side of the road. the real question is if the suv had not passed would the other car have had to slow down for the truck pulling out. if so, then the fault is with the truck because it didnt yield to oncoming traffic. if the other car didnt have to slow down then the issue is the speed the suv was traveling to pass: too fast to slow down.
@@kennethwilliams-dl9gi a big truck like that needs time and even if he yielded to traffic, by the time he got where he was those speeding cars could have appeared in no time while the truck is still trying to make its turn. It does NOT appear to be an "Oh SHit type of diversion" When a truck makes a turn give it time and plenty of room. But you know some teens, no patience or experience on the road yet.
I agree it's a horrible thing but if he would have been driving like he should have been this would have never happened. I'm retired now but I drove cross country for 42 years if a person waits till there is no traffic coming you could sit there for hours and people in cars need to have a little courtesy and give them a chance to pull out if the shoe was on the other foot they would like for them to show some courtesy

@@treasuretim3 the only thing the semi driver is at fault of, was misjudging the speed of the oncoming vehicles. The scene looks to be at an industrial park which usually have speed limits around 25mph. The semi driver probably saw the cars coming and figured he had plenty of time to pull out. What the driver didnt see or couldnt tell, was that one vehicle was traveling around 3x the speed limit passing other cars.

Apparently two cars were moving north bound and one tried to pass the other and the semi pulled out of a driveway and that’s when the collision occurred. My best guess is the young man was impatient and tried to speed around the other car that’s when the semi pulled out and he had no time to stop. Can’t find anything on how fast he was going or if the semi made a legal exit from where he was. Edit: this is all from “the Seattle times”
The semi was already most of the way pulled out. If the semi pulled out later instead of earlier. The car would of hit the front part of the truck or trailer. Not the back part of the trailer.

After seeing this guys age, it brings back memories, I remember me and my friends getting our licences around 10 years ago now and driving like maniacs, racing. I truly believe we all think we’re invincible at that age. We used to do what this kid was doing most likely , seeing the highest speed our car can do, texting, racing, doing 80-90mph in a 40. I’m 29 now and wouldn’t dream of doing it now, because life feels more precious, and I’ve seen many people die over the years in crashes . It makes me shiver knowing the stuff I used to do in cars back then. 19 is absolutely nothing behind the wheel, still learning. If your a teen and reading this, or an inexperienced driver. trust me ignore your friend or homies in the car telling you to speed up, or calling you a pussy for driving slow. Can guarantee when you get to 29/30 you’ll get what it’s all about. Drive safe and at your own pace.
We all grow up with a lot of luck. Some of us are not lucky enough. 16 year old died here in our town yesterday driving his crotch rocket over 100 mph into an SUV at an intersection. The bike was in many pieces, he was a bag of mush in his cloths. Boys and their 5,000% levels of testosterone higher than a grown man. No crotch rockets should ever be used by adolescents. Too reckless, inexperienced and some are just too stupid to preserve their own lives.
@kristopherdetar3552 That happened to a kid I went to school with a few years after we got out in the early 90's. 100mph into a back of a stopped van on a crotch rocket.
I drove high horsepower vehicles and you are completely right about how stupid we are behind the wheel at that age. Driving is a privilege not a right.
Yep... I was the same immature ass back in my early driving years. That was the eighties when the average car had about 130 hp... Even the Detroit muscle cars only had about 240 hp. I can't imagine I would had lived through my teenage years with a 700+ hp car of today.
My heart goes out to the truck driver who will be scarred for life. My daughter and I witnessed a young woman killed on the way to her high school graduation. She was at fault and paid the ultimate price. My daughter witnessed the removal and the kid who broadsided the girl was a neighbor who was speeding. Everyone is affected by these avoidable tragedies.

@Conrad Weinstock I have my cdl and I never would have turned into oncoming traffic with it being that close. It states the first car had to slow down to avoid hitting the semi and that is when the 2nd car went around him. Speed does not matter in this case when he slammed on his breaks the front end of the car lowers which makes the impact that much worse because of the front end being lower it will slid under the trailer more easily. That is why they say to not break it could save your life or when your about to hit a deer. Don't break it can lift the deer or moose up and into your windshield.
@@HollyBarrett How long was your CDL actually active? Again what did Sheriff deputies conclude at the accident? Number 3, were you a Witness to the tragedy?? All are unfortunately at fault.!! I'll see accident report later. Don't forget a young Man died. It's a little late to speculate for both of us.
This happened to myself and a friend of mine nearly 30 years ago. I was 15 he was 17, we were in his 1985 Malibu (old police cruiser style) that same day he had installed new seats that were mounted low and to the floor boards. We were headed down a highway late at night at a speed of 90mph, a low bed semi truck carrying re bar was in the far left turning lane, we were unaware that the driver was making a wide right turn. We ended up completely under the low bed trailer, the roof was completely torn off and the drivers side door was torn off. When the truck driver finally realised we had hit him we were well past the corner where he had turned and only the back end of the car was showing. Some how and in some divine miracle neither me or my friend were injured and didn't have a single scratch. As much as new vehicles have their saftey benefits, I believe it was the old malibu tank like build and the custom seats that helped save us... My deepest condolences to the deceased family.
It's impossible not to see a semi truck from a quarter of a mile away. If you just drive at the speed limit or below, you should have enough time to stop.... not unless you're on your phone.
or speeding up when overtaking another car. unlikely the driver was on the phone. its possible to not see if the truck is on a side street and one is concentrating on passing a slower car.
Judging by where the front of the semi was and where the car collided. I'm guessing the kid was on his cell phone or messing with the touch screen in the car. He passed a car that was probably slowing down for the semi. Maybe blinded for a second from road rage. Which can explain passing and hitting with enough force to make it as far as he did
Former FF here, nothing worse than a Corvette rear ending a semi at speed... I believe the driver's head was found in the hatch area, rest of it still belted in... still haunts me almost 15yrs later
These type of videos should be a must for Driver's Ed programs, it would help save lives. My life is all about going fast but public roads are not the place for it.
My husband and son were heading to the Eisenhower tunnel above Denver, speed limit is 50, a red mustang convertible flew by them on the right and directly under the back of a semi that was stopped. They stopped, first ones there, all they could see was the back seat and a guy screaming, they shouldnt have walked up to the car as there was just an arm hanging down on the passenger side. A couple of nurses tried to give aid, my husband and son left. We learned later he was going about 75 and the woman in the passenger seat died, the driver survived as did the backseat passenger. This was 20 yrs ago and they still say they can see it in their mind...
It's probably going to mentally kill the truck driver for the rest of his life at fault or not. A guy from the small town I live in was involved in an accident where an old guy had a heart attack and crossed lanes right in front of his semi truck at 110 KM . There was absolutely nothing he could do and he's been a screwed up mess the last 20years since. It's the same for the first responders, I worked with a guy who'd been on the volunteer fire department for years, He went out on a crew to pull his first body from a fire wreck, I've never seen him look so sick after he came back to work after that. He was a big hard guy you didn't mess with and it humbled him pretty quick as well !
Compassion and sympathy to the family and friends and the smaller vehicle. Even if the trucker or semi driver is at fault,i am not saying that he or she is,it is not even worth it. Ladies and gentlemen ,please stay away from people driving larger vehicles. They have usually got a tight schedule, they may not see you and please put those electronic devices down and drive with two hands 10 and two.
The truck wasn't at fault, the driver of the car was speeding and illegally passed someone waiting for the truck to clear out of the road. The car driver was at fault so grow up and stop blaming innocent people. What's wrong with you?
I witnessed a similar accident on Easter Sunday some 30+ years ago. It was a very traumatic event to witness. So sad and it likely didn't have to happen.
Fortunately future generations will only read about this in their history class and will think to themselves what craziness life must have been like. It will be illegal for humans to drive cars. Bored teens looking for pranks will deliberately play ball on the freeway causing a traffic backup because naughty kids know it's impossible to get hurt since all cars are self driving. Robbers will need to put a trailer on their bicycle when robbing homes in order to make their sweet illegal haul because they know that self driving cars will drive them straight to jail. Many EMT, emergency room doctors, and highway patrol will be out of jobs because society will simply not need their services as much.
@@4Kandlez - I worked in the airline industry. When working there I was shocked to learn that it was once common for people to die in airline accidents, but each time there was a tragic accident, the airline industry (basically the FAA) would study why the accident happened and then give guidance to prevent it from happening again. Over a period of decades it is now almost impossible for people to die in an airplane accident. I am an optimist and believe if there is outrage over auto accidents, just like there once was for airline accidents, then the same outcome can happen. After experiencing the safety culture that the American public demanded from the airline industry, I disagree.
It absolutely amazes me that probably thirty years ago side impact bars became mandatory on semi trailers in the UK but you don't have them in the US yet!
Well, I was reading about that. They haven't done that yet because some of our roads are so bad here in the USA that if trailers had those they would get stuck, like you probably have seen when they get stuck on RR tracks. "Speed kills." No. It's the sudden stop that kills you. I did crazy things as a teen. It's a miracle I survived unscathed. Some aren't so fortunate. I feel for his parents.
As a retired truck driver of 20 years thankfully I haven't been in this situation. But the two drivers i Know in fatal situations, both were so affected they couldn't drive again.
I don't live far from this crash scene and it is a busy road most times of the day but especially at that time of day. It's also lined with warehouses and trucks on a good portion of it, which is where this happened. I've seen so many near misses and it's a road I never speed on but always see someone passing me. The news reported speed was a factor and I can believe it. My heart hurts for this kid's family (I hear he was a local high school student) and the driver of the semi. What a horrible thing to have to live with. Thankful for the cops and firefighters who deal with this and hope we are all safe in our travels.
Never understood why professionals at the crime scene always find themselves laughing in a time of sorrow, car was being pulled from under the truck and the officer in Blue started laughing hard, I see this at crime scenes a lot in particular murder cases and searches, it’s extremely disrespectful and disturbing.
I remember as a kid our family took a vacation to Eastern PA. We were driving in Harrisburg in heavy traffic heading towards a bridge overpass. Several cars ahead of us was a huge trailer truck carrying huge steel beams. As it started to pass under the bridge, it was clear the load was too high. This all happened very fast but the top beams slid off into the car behind it. And it was a convertible. Finally when the road was cleared, the cops wanted traffic to pass. When we drove past the car, you could see how the beams almost covered the car. Many went straight into the front and back seats. Luckily we didn’t see any people. But just knowing the people had to be dead was awful. I can still see that sight.
We just had a similar accident this week in our hometown. Young man, senior in high school, rear ended a tractor trailer at a high rate of speed. He was obviously distracted and didn’t have his seatbelt on either….not that it would’ve made a difference. The engine in his pickup was through the firewall. It’s been very hard on our community. Hopefully this will cause others to think about safe driving.
Similar accident happened to friend of mine who was mad at his mother blaming her for his father leaving. My friend got into a huge argument with his mother late one night grab the keys to her car and took off. Long story short his mom reported car stolen and he was chased by local cops and ended up driving his mom's car under the rear of a stopped semi trailer going over 80 mph and never hit the brakes. Both hands and his head were removed from his body due to accident. He was 13 years old.
Given the SUV damn near came out the other side I would have to assume he was traveling so fast that he came into sight when the semi had already looked and pulled out on the road. They better do a thorough investigation with this.
@gtarules4 - there were two vehicles traveling the same direction (according to the description), the teen was the second vehicle and attempting to pass the other vehicle in the second lane. So, the truck driver pulled out in front of the first vehicle (the one the teen was attempting to pass).
There always is with fatalities. Really they just need to pull the black box from the car and see what all the perimeters were, steering wheel angle, brake and throttle input, speed, etc. Theres also a good chance for one of the three vehicles to have a dash cam.
@@truegret7778 you said the truck pulled out in front of the first vehicle. that sounds like the trucker is more at fault. if the slower car had to slow down for the truck then the fault lies with the trucker as he wasnt yielding to oncoming traffic. either way there was little the passing car could do even if it was a legal and safe pass. people say high speed but you kinda have to kick it up a notch to pass sometimes. i always do.
@@kennethwilliams-dl9gi Well sort of. I said "the description reads: "Two vehicles were headed NB on West Valley Highway when the second vehicle tried to pass the first. As the second vehicle was passing, a semi was pulling out of a driveway on the East side of the road turning South."". I witnessed a Cadillac travelling about 30-35mph run a stop sign and drive up as far as this young man did - the truck trailer was the sort that had a very long tow bar between the dump truck part and the trailer being towed (I don't know the actual name for that sort of truck. I tell my teens "just because you have the green light and the cross traffic doesn't, doesn't mean the cross traffic will stop". This is a tough crash for all involved. RIP to the young teen.
This can easily be prevented or at least minimised by fitting steel side rails under each side of the trailer. It is a requirement in the UK and most of Europe. So sad when it’s avoidable!😢
Exactly, this and impatient truckers pulling onto a street expecting cars to slow down for them, but it's expecting everyone to always pay attention or be very slow which is not the case.
@@armanddesarrierespays719 So it's ok for impatient car drivers to be going too fast not paying attention and expecting trucks not to inconvenience them by being on the road? That's some great thinking right there.
I came on the scene of a head-on crash the same time as the first emergency response team arrived around 40-42 years ago where a family of five were killed and on person in the pickup full of drunks that caused the crash was killed. The pickup passed a car at a high rate of speed on a hill and went head-on with the family of five. You could not tell what was engine and what was firewall in the car. The engine was literally in the cab of the car. The entire inside of the car was covered in blood. The cab of the pickup was broke loose from the frame as well as the engine and transmission and the box and frame was twisted 45 degrees around. The alternator of the pickup was a quarter mile down the highway in the ditch from where the collision happened and full 16 gallon kegs of beer everywhere. I assisted the tow truck driver in clearing the scene on that night. After 40-42 years I have never forgotten what that scene looked like. I have only seen a few collisions that bad in my life but I think this one stuck in my head because they were a family in my community. I will never forget this and I really hope I never do. I have lots to many people I know or cared about to drunks.
Oh, kid. I'm so sorry for your loss. My condolences to your family. I wish this hadn't happened to you, your loved ones, your friends. You left earth way too early. You had your whole life to live. May GOD be with now.
Thats a Toyota Highlander, midsize SUV, I know because I drive one! Even though its a decent sized vehicle it doesn't matter if you are driving fast and hit a tractor trailer, you can obviously still die. How horrific! When I was an RN for four years working in a large hospital I was pretty confident in my skills until I was driving home with my boyfriend when traffic was backed up at night and soeone was screaming for help. I pull over and see a teenager lying on the ground in an unnatural position not moving. I go to help after making sure someone called 911. I came to find out it was a sixteen year old boy crossing the street walking with his brother and a car hit the one kid and fled the scene. I will never forget the gore and the brother being understandably hysterical. The boy died. After that I felt so traumatized by the whole thing I had trouble sleeping for days, I kept seeing the teenagers face! I give so much credit to first responders! Now I've been an RN for over eighteen years and will never forget that incident. ❤
My dads best friend ,lost his daughter and her date on prom night , when the MG Midget they were in, drove under a semi trailer and out the other side. The guy was backing in his driveway, after dark. No flares. Nobody with lights. Nothing. They were only 17 years old.
I now understand why my parents refused to teach me and my siblings how to drive as teenagers. I didn’t learn how to drive until I was in my early twenties. I used to hate that it took sooooo long for me to learn how to drive, but I’m glad I started driving as an adult because I’m more cautious now than I probably would’ve been if I drove as a teenager. It probably saved my own life! 🙏🏽

Thank you for taking the time to listen to him

Maybe Tom needed it too
At least give us one of the stories
After 13 years of working these types of wreck scenes, there is no denying that speed was a major factor in this accident, it's a hard lesson learned when it's too late to avoid the outcome.
Sure he was speeding, but to me the main reason why he crashed was distraction.
No experience needed to be able to tell he was speeding. You don't wedge a car that far under anything unless you are really hauling ass.
a contributing factor but NOT the causal factor. I've been speeding for 40 years but I only do it safely and never in traffic. Someone made a mistake.
As a paramedic I can honestly say that these calls take even seasoned first responders time to process in their minds. If people only knew, what we know, they would never speed or drive recklessly again. Haunting us forever.

@@peteyca If they even save that much time. I can't tell you how many times somebody will go zooming around me just to have me pull up next to them at the next traffic signal.
This was too fast to be someone simply in a hurry. Glad an innocent third party was not hurt.
Thanks
ive seen cases where they use airbags or a wrecker to lift the trailer if they cannot just pull the car away.
Interesting. Obviously no one wants to see that but it's interesting to know. Thank you.
Wow!!!!!😱😱
@@kennethwilliams-dl9gi I thought I saw what looks like jacks to raise the trailer. Makes sense to do that.I was wondering if they got the person out already but it looks like he was forced into the back seat of the car which is mangled.

Not horrible to be honest it’s was fast. Horrible way to die is burning alive not this. His family can rest knowing he died in a matter of half a second.
Actually the person who die barely had a second to reflect on it . There are way worse ways of dying that take minutes, hours or days of agony.
At least it wad quick
Technically you didn't watch the accident, but rather the aftermath.
It's very sad when the young kids get killed but do you know that was not semi truck fold right?
@@urszulapanikowski6944 What?
@@S.E.C-R Hello. This accident was not semi truck fault! Sorry was taping error.
to everyone saying the semi is at fault for not yielding right of way... he hit the rig near the back (after the rig had time to cross all the lanes of traffic to the curb side) so there was ample time to A) see a huge freaking rig pulling out B) hit your brakes... if the car hit the front of the semi then it could be argued that the semi "just pulled out in front of the car" but the transport had enough time to pull all the way out pretty much and the car hit the rear... transport was pulling out turning south, so, prob not going fast...
@@treasuretim3 so what ur saying is there was two inexperienced drivers here at fault the one who was going so fast and didnt know what a brake pedal was for while breaking the speed limit and couldnt see a big white container on the back of a truck that was moving off and getting out of the way
@@treasuretim3 the only thing the semi driver is at fault of, was misjudging the speed of the oncoming vehicles.

As damaged as that car is....I cannot imagine how fast the teen was going. Thank goodness he did not take innocent lives with them.

Tesla's seem to not see them all the time. 🤷

Only saving grace is that he didn’t kill anyone else.
Luck and randomness.

Well, I was reading about that.
It won't.

This can easily be prevented or at least minimised by fitting steel side rails under each side of the trailer. It is a requirement in the UK and most of Europe. So sad when it’s avoidable!😢

The pickup passed a car at a high rate of speed on a hill and went head-on with the family of five.

You don't know if it was speed. Maybe he was on heroin or angel dust.
Speed is the number 1 factor by far in traffic collisions. But hey we have to get to the next stop light as fast as possible.
Speeding is a big factor in almost all highway deaths. Stop speeding and tailgating please.
It's also a good way to miss out on years of real world training....
P.S. The vast majority of teenage drivers, are not killed in fatal car wrecks.
The Chaplain was there to help the rescuers, not the driver...
Wonder why? All gods are imaginary
