I need a good setup for motorcycle, my gear will be an Action 3 in the helmet, an Insta360 x3 in the handlebar and a drone. To save weight I will not bring a notebook but a good smartphone to edit videos, this problem with quality with the insta360 was a bummer now. The Smartphone I chose has 16 GB and 1M Antutu benchmark but only 256 GB internal memory and no micro SD slot.
Great. Very important and to the point. It's must to watch before you start editing videos. I didn't find such consolidated information on any other channel.
I’ve mostly been using the mobile app to edit my Insta360 footage, but recently I did use the desktop app. This is great information, I never know the video quality was better on the desktop app. Thanks for sharing Ben.
The desktop app does not have features of the iPhone app. This is miserably ridiculous. When finish a trip after recording a lot, you want to transfert all files to your desktop and edit later. There's no excuse for those features, like the split-screen not to be on desktop.
Hey Ben, what are your thoughts on the card reader attachment and how much it would improve editing rather than wireless and also use with tablets. If you have not, run a similar experiment with the card reader and maybe it will help export higher quality videos. Try it and make a video of it. Good day to ya!
It won’t affect exports as those are limited by the CPU of mobile devices, which Insta360 caps anyway to avoid people trying it and their phones crashing. Only benefit to the card reader is if you’re doing lots of editing on mobile devices and not wanting to wait a long time to export or download to the device.
Just arrived yesterday and it's crashing in the phone app when I click on any video to edit. It says swipe to change perspective and crashes. I'm at a loss because I can't find any help for this situation. Thankfully I own a capable laptop and I'm still in business over there. But I want to utilize the phone version as well.
I use the PC version of Insta360 Studio 2023. Unless I'm missing something, I don't believe the desktop software has the jump-cut feature. If it truly does not, I hope it will in the not-too-distant future. Do you have any information about this? Right now, I just export different edits and combine them using a separate video editing program.
Great video Ben, because I do see people exporting straight from the mobile app to UA-cam and then be confused about the low image quality of their video in comparisons to others they've seen, that were most likely edited on desktop. One other thing that also surprises and disappoints many folks is that you cannot take a semi-completed project from the Insta360 mobile app to the desktop Studio app or vice versa - the two applications are totally separate and projects cannot be transferred.
@@BenClaremontSo im going to shoot a video for UA-cam channel with my iPhone and insta360 flow. Am I better off using cinema p3 and lose some of the capability of the insta 360 app? I was going to transfer over to pc to edit on resolve😮
Awesome video. I've found doing reframed exports on my mobile app at 1080p30 125M bits is good enough for me...I then import the reframed clip into another video editor app VN Video to add the reframed clip with other clips from my Samsung S21U or DJI M3 and export that project as 4k60 at 100 Mbit and upload it to my YT channel and it all looks super good.... although I don't really zoom into the footage as that causes a loss of quality
I have found that editing over the phone results in a rather poor quality file. While editing with a PC, there are not enough stories like on a phone. Quite inconvenient
I upcycle videos with either Topaz Video Enhance AI or Pixelmator Pro (yes, it does video since 3.2 (3.3 is out now even better)). I don't edit on a phone anyway, as my aging eyes don't work well editing, even on an iPhone 13 Pro.

The phone app now has 4k and high bitrate options. So basically, with the stories feature oy available on phones, it's the best way to edit untill they have them in the desktop application.
The real dealbreaker for PC app is inability to split single clip into pieces that are needed and reframe/edit/export only required bits of the clip. You have to reframe the whole clip, export it and slice afterwards in another editor, which is quite stupid. Or am I missing something and this option is available?

this really does make me sad because mobile has the best features such as this handheld reframing thing you can do. it makes framing really easy and has a nice handheld wiggle to it. this is not possible in desktop and i have a 2 in one laptop that turns into an tablet
I wouldn't say that the reduced export resolution on phone/tablets is due to their CPU/GPU limitations. Seems to be a decision Insta360 made. Just try Lumafusion on an iPhone or iPad; plenty of horsepower for video. Used to easily beat my i9 Mac; though not an issue now with M1/M2 silicon.
Yeah but trying to export 5.7k video at a high bitrate on a $100 Android phone from 10 years ago is destined to fail. Hence why they don’t encourage it… there would be more people complaining about crashing phones than people currently complaining about resolution caps.
@@BenClaremont Nice of you to respond, Ben. That's perhaps a bit of a straw man argument :) They clearly have the software chops and could easily allow 5.7k export on appropriate hardware configurations (it's straightforward to grey out the option on wheezy hardware). Their export on a 2019 8-core i9 MacBook Pro is woefully slow, and according to your 2013 Android phone argument should have been res-limited too. I get the impression that they focus on adding "cool" features. You see this all the time with many companies; cool software features sell hardware, improving basic functionality is usually only appreciated by existing users.

Hey Ben, does the desktop studio have the AI people tracking / framing features that the phone app does? i.e. "me mode" etc.
PC app does the tracking too.
this really does make me sad because mobile has the best features such as this handheld reframing thing you can do. it makes framing really easy and has a nice handheld wiggle to it. this is not possible in desktop and i have a 2 in one laptop that turns into an tablet
Don’t be sad… it really just comes down to the lower CPU ability of handheld devices.
