“Journalism shines in the long haul” “Collaboration between not just multiple reporters in a newsroom but newsrooms across the nation” I think these are very apt observations about reporting and I think it’s very telling how similar it is to how science works in general. It’s almost like this is the best way to collect, compile, and understand facts about our world. 😱 Very rarely is it one single person with a breakthrough finding/report. It’s generally a steady trickle of information that has multiple contributors over time and even more people who work to piece it together in a way that we can properly understand. I think the best way to take X is as what it is: a broad discussion among a large group of people. The news and community notes both take time to arrive, but community notes require historically disagreeing groups to agree, which can instill trust in the skeptical. The news media, in turn, has experience and certain facilities and connections that make certain important inquiries more possible, and are easier for some people to trust, at least by default.

All problems have a source. Usually multiple sources, but often one predominant one. In the case of rushing to conclusions, it's an individual one. You have to convince people to put themselves into question, and their desire for the impossible. Truth without the sacrifice of the time it takes to search for the truth. It is simply **irrational** and **emotional** behavior to desire what you want right here right now. I know it's tough, but it's not like we're talking about the existential dread of wondering if you'll be alone forever, and desiring some deep unfulfilled part of you to finally feel whole. I think that bias and sensationalism are two larger problems in the media rather than the speed. You have Fox news on one side and pretty much every other outlet on the opposite to varying degree. On top of the bias we end up with a wildly high number of opinion pieces. We used to have a media landscape that presented facts for us to interpret. Due in a large part to our desire for entertainment we have ended up with a news media that spoon feeds us a narrative. Also the excuse they gave about being 90% certain was completely bogus. They use words like possible or suspected all the time when handling things before all the facts come in. The headlines that were coming out were just in no way representitive of the level of information they had. Yes twitter/social media are a problem, especially for the media illiterate. That isn't an excuse for the legacy to be as bad as it has become.
The void gets filled. "Go for a walk" doesn't work when the SS doesn't give out any information. In a case like this the public funded institutions own the public answers, not shutting down all communication. Even in front of congress they don't want to answer any questions. It would be beneficial for news organisations to have a live coverage page for events like this. This would provide a current status: including details such as what happened, who was involved and the motive. Clear labels and confidence levels could also be included, along with information on the steps being taken to confirm the details.
I love channels that not only talk about important topics, but also teach us a little bit about how to do that ourselves! Such a great video. Measured and informative. Can someone please tell Molly Eichel to replace her smoke detector though, many fires start in home offices.
That isn't an excuse for the legacy to be as bad as it has become.
off with her glasses !!
Solution. Don't watch the news or use social media.
Happier life
Just watch videos of real people and jump to your own conclussions. Don't let journalists make you jump to their own conclussions
“I like people who weren’t shot”
Trump on McCain except replace captured with shot
When he screams "This is your fault! ". He's talking to the slimy activists, not the cameramen and photographers.
Why is there 45 mins with no information after a breaking news story?
fucking great video
