As a friend and fan since 1967, I can tell you that this video is but one tiny window into the musical world of Phil Keaggy. It is a vast world well worth exploring.
To quote Bob Seger, "today's music ain't got the same SOUL:". Why can't rockers make funky music like this anymore? To make music that makes you wanna boogie!
Phil Keaggy can really play! This is a virtually flawless one-take live performance. Few have the guts to even try this; fewer still can pull it off. This is amazing for nearly 40 years ago, and he's still playing today.
I saw them at Packard Music Hall in Warren, Ohio in the early '70's. One of the great power three piece bands. The bassist is Dan Pecchio. It's a shame they broke up.
keaggy is just som' else... been trying to figure out his playing for a month now... sometimes hi's blackmore, sometimes page, sometimes hendrix... out of this world
@JRR951 OK to be more precise you can see her in the middle of the audience up to 0:18 as the long waving hair. About 0:40 she turns and you get a glimpse of her laughing. So, at "about one minute" I actually woke up to what I was seeing and called her over and asked her. Glass Harp played at her Senior Prom in Warren Ohio in 72 . She even showed me her High School Year Book and sure enough there are a series of pictures there of them playing the prom. Like I said, Small World
I remember seeing them during this period at Cleveland's Edgewater Park. Just us hippies grooving on a beach (I know: Cleveland and "beach"? LOL! Hey, we had SAND!) They KILLED it!!!!
@alantvanko1 Even Phil doubts the validity of that story - probably an urban legend. You'll find many similar stories about guitar players all over the world. Anyway - Phil is a really fantastic player!
I think Derek is still trapped in one of those pods! Some area musicians have kept in touch and jammed with Glass Harp members over the years. One band had a reunion concert a few years back and invited Daniel Pecchio (not Derek though) to perform with them. He was stellar on grand piano and vocals all night, then late in the show grabbed his bass and did an absolutely incredible bass/drum jam with a great local drummer. That jam is in my top 5 live music experiences in my life. Lots of talent out there! Especially with the members of Glass Harp. A few months later, Phil played a full gig with his current band at the time. It's easy to see watching him live why he is called one of the absolute best!
keaggy is a bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssstttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt in a good way
I seen this guy play at Coventry High School in the 70's...he was boring! and I am a classic old-time rock head. All he ever was to me personally was an Urban Legend, a good guitarist, but great I hardly think so!
LOL!!! What a troll!!! Even if he "was" boring during high school, this is later, and he went on to have an amazing career as a gifted guitarist artist (and I"m not even Christian anymore)!!! If you don't think he's a great guitarist, my friend, you're either not paying attention to any of his work, are jealous, and/or your ability to judge musical ability is flawed, to put it mildly. :O)
Get out of the comment section. Phil keaggy is beyond good. Beyond good. His association with Christian music is what keeps him off the radar. He is truly a progressive master. His understanding of music is out of sight.
Phil is a Christian. He started to follow Jesus while in the band. The other guys were OK with it at first, but after a few albums, they thought there was too much Christian content.
think before you speak... this video rocks hard for Jesus but most christian bands dont.. and i say let this great christian band show you how to jam out for Jesus... you will know they are christians by there love...
People not fat in america back then? Amazing what cottonseed oil & corn syrup solids have done to the them/ theirs! But NOW, you can eat BUGS, OWN NOTHING, & BE HAPPY! 😂🤣🤪

The best concert opener by The Harp!
Glass Harp is simply the best. Awesome power trio, and Phil Keagy is the guy!

He does some Joe Walsh-like stuff and some George Benson talking-guitar, too
Phil is a BEAST on the guitar...and at such a young age! I wish I still had as much hair as the bass player.
Very funky. I never new who the members were in Glass Harp. And I even thought that this voice was coming from Phil.
Cool! just discovered this group--by chance--and I'm so glad I did! They're jammin'!!
@JRR951

Always loved this band-
I like that raw, raucus sound a nice tight live band can make. And look at that 70s hair.
Keaggy absolutely shreds! I’m curious did Hendrix really say what he did about him? Wouldn’t be surprised!
WOW! Great guitar solo!
They still rock just as hard. :-D
So I recently stumbled on to GLASS Harp... man talk about the Lead zeppelin of the Jesus Movement...
I LOVE this song!!! SO much like the James Gang
phil is unmatched
Amazing. Phil Keaggy rules!!
Holy cow man! Thanks for posting this. Phil was just a baby then :)
Great classic stuff!
ALl HAIL THE GROOVY SEVENTIES!!! The power trio.

Saw Phil and Larry Noeman and Andre Crouch, etc, back in the erly 1970s Rockin' for Jesus.

Phill does not doubt the story. He flatly says it's not true. He told me that himself.
It's never is a long time. The guy's name is Phil Keaggy.
Awesome! (Side note: is that Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap on bass and vocals?) 😺❤️🙏
I think Derek is still trapped in one of those pods!

Why is that funny?? LOL.
Who's drumming in this?

Awesome song. Christians need to learn to step outside of the box of "christian music"
They do. It's just not played on "mainstream" Christian radio. That's marketed to soccer moms.

This is not Synergy!! Larry Fast is Synergy! Check his amazing music out. Especially Sequence 14
The name of the Glass Harp album this song came from is called "Synergy". It was released in 1972
At one minute in it's the bass player....
is glass harp christian music too? the lyrics seem it
Phil is a Christian. He started to follow Jesus while in the band. The other guys were OK with it at first, but after a few albums, they thought there was too much Christian content.
Not really. Many of their songs were Christian (mostly because of Keaggy), but they weren't really a Christian band.
yea this is funky and great music... but they're other stuff is a little too religious sounding for my taste if you know what i mean
think before you speak...
this video rocks hard for Jesus
but most christian bands dont..
and i say let this great christian band show you how to jam out for Jesus...
you will know they are christians by there love...
I can see that. "O.k. Phil, so we are playing Christian music
I can't listen to any more! Who mixed the sound?? Turn up the vocals and down on that wailing guitar!
Dude---I just dig the fact the funky bass is cranked up!
People not fat in america back then?
Amazing what cottonseed oil & corn syrup solids have done to the them/ theirs!
But NOW, you can eat BUGS, OWN NOTHING, & BE HAPPY! 😂🤣🤪
