- Around 400,000 visitors visit the Kehlsteinhaus annually, mostly on nice days, at an altitude of 1834 meters. Since the house was opened to the public in the early 50s, visitors can visit most of the rooms that are related to the gastronomy.
But there are also some rooms that are not open to the public, which we would like to show you in this documentation.
First of all, there are the technical operating rooms, the core of which is a powerful diesel engine from 1940. This engine is still fully functional today and
ensures a reliable power supply in the event of a power failure for both the house and the elevator.
The large winch motor, which is housed in the roof of the house, transports the ever-increasing number of visitors to the Kehlsteinhaus, which is 124 meters higher.

Glad it wasn’t destroyed. We need to preserve history no matter how painful it may be.
I was stunned to see the original diesel generator and the control panel still in working order , amazingly the original tools still there , after all it is made in Germany.

@@robertbates6249 From Berchtesgaden it is best to drive instead of trying to walk to the Obersalzberg where the berghof was located. In this area there is a parking lot where special buses take you to the kelstein Haus or Eagle's Nest. You can either take these buses or hike up to the top. Check out my video of the bus ride.

I tried to visit the area in September 2016 on my way to Italy for the F1 race. The area was under cloud cover and it was raining more often than not so there wasn't much chance to see anything. I crossed into Italy via the Brenner Pass and it had been snowing a fair bit. Italy was nice and warm though.
I took a tour of Eagles Nest nearly 30 years ago. The tour guide was most informative.
When at the top, I spoke with a former Nazi soldier in his eighties and listened to his war stories. Amazing place to visit.
It is really too bad that some of the other structures of the Obersalzberg didn't survive the war as well as this. The architecture and skills of the builders were second to none.
It's terrible that they destroyed most of the compound.

I was there in 1994 on a brisk, beautiful clear October day. Incredible views of the mountains. What I remember most is the bus ride up the mountain with the 6-level brakes system on the bus, the elevator ride to the top and then the breath taking views. The night before I went into a restricted area with my brother-in-law down into the bomb shelters built by the Nazis. The General Walker Inn was a beautiful place, sadly I've learned the Germans have torn it down.
I was there in 1973, while station with the 385 th M.P. Bn in Stuttgart, Germany. I was hoping someone would show the view from the buses during the accent and decent. Brings back alot of memories. Larry W. Ours
While in the Army I was stationed in Berchtesgaden between 1980 and 1981. Strub Kaserne was where we lived and worked out of.

A bit hard since it was extensively bombed on the second to last bombing mission.l then set ablaze by fleeing SS. Then what remained was destroyed by explosives to stop fanatics having a place to return to

I have to marvel at German engineering in 1930s. Absolutely mind-blowing. It is stupid for humans throughout the history to destroy enemy creations out of rage because so much can be learned and re-used. Would love to visit this place. Seen other videos but loved the engineering aspects on this. Thanks for sharing.

If you mean the "Das Teehaus am Mooslahnerkopft" in "Sperrgebiet I", Obersalzberg (only minutes walking distance from Herr Hitlers Berghof) , you are correct
But to the narrators innocense there is a "Teezimmer .. Teeraum" at Kehlsteinhaus too. Sometimes confused with the "Teehaus am Mooslahnerkopf"
And since the Teehaus am Mooslahnerkopf does not excist anymore (flattend by the US Army / Freistat Bayern in 1951 / 2006 in fear of worthship of den Herrn Adolf Hitler), people often confuse things ....

That was very, very, very well done! I visited the Haus Oct 2022, and this doc really filled in some gaps that i really wanted to know. They wouldn't let me film or photograph anything around the elevator.

Ive been in Buildings in the USA - Maryland, that had NAZI made Boilers for Heating and Hot water. They are still functional and working great. Quality craftsmanship.

I've had the opportunity to enter the operating room(2:14) with a tour group. The tour director had made arrangements for the tour group prior to our visit.
Visited in early 80s. A lot of the work was done by Italian craftsmen and apparently paid very well.

Very very interesting! Special thanks for filming / photographing the details and type plate of the old Siemens&Halske three-phase AC generator with its data. As told in the video, the original elevator winch from 1938 doesn't exist anymore, it was replaced in 1972. Are there any data of the winch motor known? The new machine filmed in the video seems to be a gearless DC machine ( I think the old original machine too). Data would be interesting (Power, DC voltage & amperage). Thanks for sharing this video !

Having been stationed in Germany with the USAF, Bavaria was always where we would head for. When family and friends would visit is always meant visits to Ludwig’s castles and the Eagles Nest. We made four visits to the Eagles Nest, and that was three too many. Pretty good video, but you should have included the bus ride up and back down,as well as the special buses that made the trips.

I've been up there. The view is fantastic, but getting up there us scary. Especially if like me your afraid of heights. I believe Hitler didn't visit too often. He wasn't too keen on it.

If only all the buildings at Obersalzberg had been saved including the Berghof that was destroyed as a result of irresponsible and needless bombing by the allies? The quality of construction of the Eagles Nest and the superb engineering of the lift and electrical generator are superb!

Back in summer 1994 I scrambled round the side of the mountain at the peak and a lift door opened up what seemed like from the rocks parting. I clambered inside with some other German Jews who were already inside a bthe brass lift. I pressed the button to go to the bottom floor nearly 2km down and I reached the bottom in 1 second or less as I steal feal like I was left there to this day and as I climbed out I turned around and the people in the lift where gone I'll never forget it it was a surreal experience I wish everyone could experience. Peace

Nothing to do with the church, at least not from my point of view. The man was the epitome of evil, and deserves the most severe punishment.
I think he built a similar version in Argentina using a submarine as a power station. You basically just park the sub in a man-made Lagoon and then fill in around it. 51 Subs are missing and I bet if you dig in Argentina you find one.

When I was there in 2007 we were not allowed to see the generator motor. I don't recall seeing the swastika at the end of the access tunnel but I remember hearing that Hitler's driver had to back into the tunnel because Hitler was claustrophobic. I also remember seeing a sign in the elevator asking that customers don't use flash photography because the operator was sensitive to it. But customers did it anyway. Customers are wrong. If only the person who stole my camera afterward would have just kept his or her hands to themself...

I’m a lift mechanic in America, I could easily maintain that gearless hoist motor. Most of the buildings in NYC I work in still have similar equipment in them. Built to last. Not like the garbage Schindler builds today sorry to say.

An interesting short film, however quite old footage and i have to say quite a few inaccuracies in the narration! How do i know? I was tour guide visiting every week in the summer for the last 10 years and have read most of the historical books and information about the Eagles Nest. when i took over as a tour guide i researched the script i was given and found that parts of the information that had been passed on to me had been twisted for dramatic effect, i then trained up a fellow guide, and on sitting in on his tour found he did the same.

Prior to 1945?
If that is the same elevator that services the tea house, Albert Speer wrote that Hitler was afraid of being trapped and only rode it once. As Hitler was a natural risk taker, I think he was mainly concerned with being embarrassed or even being caught in a coup. Speer and possibly Goebbels thought it was funny that the dispised Bormann's gift to Hitler wasn't appreciated.
This shows germans were really decades ahead of everyone else ,americans and english were so busy bombing everything they didn't manage to preserve all the beautiful architecture

Not in to the actual elevator no, however Hitlers chauffeur did drive his car to the end of the tunnel, he then reversed out and reversed back in again, so when collecting Hitler he was always going forward.
