Hey Martin, I’m also doing Hyrox London then training for the sea to summit trio then Hyrox Birmingham so will be doing a similar training plan, can’t wait to see some videos for the summit training. Furthest and hardest event I have done to date is to the rat race man v mountain last year!

Ooooh sounds like we have alot in common mate. Sea to summit is a big ask... all seemed like a good idea when I signed up. Have you done much Ratrace before? The main reason for me signing up to this is because I have such fond memories of doing the Man Vs Trilogy

Hi Martin, stumbled across this video and thought I would add this comment due to the question you posed at the end. At 57 I’ve never been into any sport other than golf, BUT, from 1984 to 1994 I genuinely had a very , very high level of all round fitness (nowadays called a hybrid athlete) and I reached that level almost completely unintentionally. 10 years working in construction, 9 hrs a day, 5 days a week, gave me huge physical strength and a great physique. Took up running at 21 purely to get time to myself to keep me sane but by 1994 I was doing roughly 50 miles a week out on the road. Granted I had no kids, no mortgage at the time but nevertheless back then I would’ve gladly backed myself against anybody in an “all round” test. I look at online fitness nowadays and it seems to me that for the most part as long as you have a six pack and a sun tan you’re assumed to be a fitness expert. But fitness to me has always been that ALL ROUND thing. Do I think even Hyrox is a test of all round fitness? Not really. Even though I admit I’ve never tried Hyrox I believe completion time is around 1 hr 30 mins? You said you were gassed at the end of yours but to be fair there’s lots of things you could do for 90 mins and you’d be shattered at the end but does that mean you’re fit? Not sure. But you sound like you’ve done a lot of different event types so I’d like to ask you, in your experience what do you think is the closest test to ALL ROUND fitness that you’ve took part in or are going to take part in?

Great post dude. Hyrox is tough. But it's literally an hour and a bit. If I had to say all round test of physical endurance, strength and capacity do a Age Group Spartan Beast. Outstanding and challenging. It's a great 2-3 hours of graft featuring many strength obstacles

Hey Martin. Seems you do amazing. I joined a running club just to improve my running for Hyrox as it seems almost 2/3 of the race. Hopefully I am able to do my first Hyrox in UK this year but so far I been unluck to grab a spot from hyrox site. Do you have any tips of how to get hold of tickets? Would be incredible to meet you at an event one day. Good luck with all your events this year

What a lovely message. Getting tickets has become something of a bun fight at the minute, the best way currently is getting a very basic membership to an affiliate gym, the general ticket sales are gone so very quickly, i missed out when Birmingham went on sale, but later picked up one second hand from someone i knew. Its a bit of a minefield buying from stangers so be weary and insist on paypal should you do this. The other way is to do a volunteer stint as you will get a code to use at a later event.
If you ever happen to be at an event in any capacity do let me know, be good to meet you too :)

Hi Martin, just turned 46 and did my first Hyrox last weekend in Rotterdam. My background is field hockey and gym. I understand your "trap", but I have it in another way. I should incorporate more running into my routine. Although I have a pretty solid base aerobic level because of my 38 years of doing field hockey my running times could (and should) definitely improve. That would mean giving up on some of my gym time that I also really enjoy. So I do understand the "struggle" if you will. There are only so many hours in a day/week with a job, wife and kids.

I get about 4 x 1 hour windows per week,...if I'm lucky. I've done the full season of Hyrox this year so a great many months grinding, and sadly I'm a much less proficient runner now as a result. Just not enough hours in a week

@@martin-boyce that surprises me. Somehow I thought you would (could) train more. Hockey alone for me is already 2 days per week. Your Hyrox times are inspirational for me. Something to train for!

      @@timderu78 Currently I train
Monday - Longer run, 5-8 miles
Tuesday - Every other Tuesday Gym, (Alternate with the wife)
      Weds - Hyrox Training,
Thurs - Strength / Anaerobic work,
Sat - Parkrun (speed) - Not sure this counts lol
I occasionally get up earlier and get a little extra done. Hyrox Wednesdays generally changes to summer speedwork once the weather clears up

My running is horrific as I’ve got arthritis in my feet and knees so I just do what I can in the running. I think people are over thinking it. 1 hyrpx training session a week is all that’s needed at the most.

True, that's all I do now. After your 5 millionth wallballs it's all a bit meh. Would rather do assistive exercises like squats

Couldnt agree more had very little running in my wotkouts but focused on hiit training before trying hyrox all have suffered while i try to get half decent at running and have gave up quite a few things to focus on this

Its mad to think how much people stress about shoes, training, technique, carpet on the sleds for what is like 3-6% of the total race but completely neglect the running, someone who has a decent amount of aerobic and anaerobic conditioning will do way better than people practicing different techniques on ski, row and wallballs

I'm not that fast, and have competed a bunch of times. I'm about at the 75 minute mark. That same year I ran a sub 18 min 5k...not sure if that helps
