I actually recorded ac like explanation of them but let it out on accident, the video should serve as a bit of an understanding I hope! Good to see you Ihor :)
Nice idea and a really simple setup with lots of utility! Real quick on sample selection: you can save a lot of track slots with a little bit of clever planning. Open and closed hats can use the same sample with plocks to the sample length. Works well since they choke each other anyway in real life. Toms can similarly be plocked for pitch, so a typical setup might be to allocate tracks for BD, SD, LT/MT/HT, OH/CH, RS, Claps, CC/RC, leaving one more for the Master.
A simple way to demo Parts. Nice. Each drum sound could use slices to enable variations of each drum. Bonus points for using stepped random LFO to round robin those slices to make it feel more ‘real’.
Such great videos. You’ve inspired me to dig out my Octatrack and give it another go. It’s so flexible that it’s sometimes hard to know how best to use it.
I was just thinking bout midi controlling my mc808 via my octatrack in hopes it would make the 808 live performance feasible and stumbled upon this nifty idear
Definitely a cool idea! One way to expand on this is to use sample chains. so you can have One drum machine per track x 4 parts... With Octachainer, each sound is auto sliced into its own slice.
Great video! Excited to try this out later. Love your Octatrack content, recently joined your Patreon and the performance template is killer! Keep it up! 😁
Have this long-standing note to self to do this with some fave (and out of reach!) drum machines. The official Elektron packs ‘caught on tape 808 & 909’ use this technique and it’s incredible - wanna replicate with LXR-02, Pulsar-23 samples etc. Maybe a cool follow up video(s) would be implementing fx and scenes, and then how to record out cool patterns and loops and save them for use.
You can use say 3 toms on one track by using slices, as long as you arrange your samples in the same order - eg hi tom, mid tom, low tom for each machine, using octachainer it is pretty quick and easy.
Cool 😎 Now I just wish the arranger could play two patterns simultaneously so that I could compose songs with up to 8 tracks of drums and up to 8 of other without needing to mix down. But maybe that's not in the true spirit of the OT of getting more out of less 😅
As ever - Thanks EZBOT! Couple of quick questions. Where in the chain are you using the Art Tube? Secondly, regarding your risers. Do the angled risers also work for the MachineDrum and Monomachine? Thanks!
This is such a great idea! I'm thinking of getting an OT, can answer me this: do those labels below the trigs indicate that you can press the trigs and get any of the effects you have written there? What's that technique called? Appreciate you!
Nice 👌 for drum pattern variations would you use scenes cleverly or make different patterns ? Or for more complex variations use different patterns in conjunction with scenes ?
I more like think of it as just many different drum machines in one. Yes, to all the things you mentioned. I'd just boot up this project when I need these classic drum machines or keep adding more drum machines to this project until I have 16x4 :)
Hey EzBot or fellow EzBottling, how do you route 3 instruments into the Octatrack? Do you route one instrument to A instead of A+B? or do you route the Syntakt through the other instruments first? I am really new so I apologize for this very basic question
You can sacrifice stereo for one of your instruments or you can do what I do and route one of your boxes into the other. Digitone into Syntakt for instance then send that into one of the stereo inputs.
@@EZBOT_ Thank you Mr Bot for taking your time to answer. Your videos are highly pedagogical and feel like ive learned so much about octatrack! Im relatively new and just never figured out how to get external sound to my A4 or Rytm (i mean they have ext in). You wouldnt have any video lying about on how to configure them for us supernewbs?
Or if you own a Roland TR8S, just plug it in, create a pattern and flick through the huge amount of kits on there, including all these drum machines, with a full 11 channels to play with 😉 This definitely seems like a great idea for everyone that doesn't though!
Wow this is so "great". I don't have to know anything about music to become a "musician" with this technology. Cool, I can become famous without the talent, or pain and grind that musicians have to go through for decades before they have maybe a shot at success. Mmm, gim'me some of that! When are they coming out with the machines that make me a doctor? What's the hold-up? Come on techies! Let's go! If you're looking to sterilize and zombify humanity completely, I understand that music is among the most important steps, but don't you think for a complete planet mess up it's about time we start messing around with other professions too? I can be a tech trial-layer, or a Congressman, (Congress-DJ-thing?). I can learn to push some colored buttons and promulgate laws or create a legal defense, then all of us will be free to vedge and smoke stuff, which is where this idea of replacing humans with machines is taking us. Self-destruction. "Hey, but it's not the same thing. A doctor or a lawyer does important work, you can't mess with that. Music really doesn't matter, it's just fun and games, anybody can mess around with it, right?" - Umm, Have you taken a look at the state of human brains lately?

Parts is definitely where I get lazy with the Octatrack, Thanks for showing it off and making me want to go back to it. Great content as always!
Thank you!
exact same here. great tutorial here and gets back to the basics - thanks EZ
Did a 15 minute set live recently with Octatrack. Only possible using parts, it’s the Octatrack’s secret sauce
How to use and benefit from parts explained in 7 min. Thanks!
Ihor! I'm sure we ALL miss your videos brother. Hope all is well!

Octatrack, the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you so much, Matthew.
Cr-78 is my favorite sounding drum machine to use like this with my OT.

your OT videos are the perfect length for making them digestable but not too heavy
Very clever and neat idea! It seems that after 10 years Octatrack is open to many creative ideas.

I have a TR8s that i feed into OT so don't really use my OT for drums, but i do appreciate more info about how PARTs work!
Happy to help!

I tried to set this up on a 101music bitbox micro.
But voicestealing was f'ing it up. Hope it will work for me on the ot.
Could you also use chains and the crossfader to get up to 256 drum machines
100%
“And the 909, everybody’s favorite.”
Way to start a holy war.
It's gonna be a blood-bath!
Any help in finding Roland Drum sample packs? Mainly the 707 and 909?
I use Sample Star ultimate one shot pack
Are the drum kits playing off more than one track? Im hearing hats along with kicks snare etc.
7 tracks of drums! Each instrument on their own channel

awesome~
Do you think elektron will ever put out a new octatrack?
I do but I think it’s a few years off
@@EZBOT_ hnnnng debating on waiting lol

Where did you get your shiny tree?
A gift from my partners best friend, probably from target or something
great template, but track 1 somehow triggers my Rytm with Midi, I haven't found the setting yet #never-leave-OT-alone-more-then-1-week
Very strange, I wonder if there is something on the MIDI side
You had me until “I’m a space cadet sometimes 😏” but by then I had enjoyed the whole video
