I did this exact method and it just popped off again a week later at the worst time when I was away and my wife was driving my kid to the doctor. I ended up chopping off that nipple and putting a bolt with a nylon locking nut . Problem solved.
Remove the shift cable linkage bracket, grind the back part of the nipple flat, punch it out, replace with bolt, two small washers, and a locknut. Tighten the locknut just enough to where the cable doesn’t flop around. If it’s too tight you won’t be able to shift
I did that to mine 2 years later still going strong i used a wire twist tie instead it's more flexable I used part dorman 14073 it comes with a C clip as well this one doesn't have a c clip
@@EF_DadLeftMehow’d you do the zip tie? If did the kit like a few months ago and then yesterday it popped off again this time in the cold rain. Had to go and rescue the wife and kiddo and get all wet while I put it back on.
Worked as described. Press until you hear it snap in place. As someone else suggested, I used a pair of large channellock pliers and a 1/2 shallow socket to squeeze it all together.
I zip tied mine. Slipped the zip tie through the hole, placed it on, wrapped the zip tie around the bracket the yiu slide it on and its done. Kept a few zip ties in the glove box & Bought this just incase keep both in glove box
Wont press in place by hand. Clip it in loosely by hand to line it all up, then you'll need a ball joint press. I ended up using a large pair of channel locks and a half inch socket. Just line up the socket against the eyelet and squeeze everything together all at once with even pressure around the socket for the pin to come all the way through. Kind of snaps into place.
Mines just broke right after work today! Man I thought my tranny was out tbh and I seen your video which I’m subscribed too and it gave me a lot of knowledge. Thank you I was about to get home I didn’t have a bushing but I just throw it back on to take me straight home. I saved me $220 from towing haha
Glad I was able to help out in some way It’s a common problem on these vehicles, just get two packs of bushings & thrown the other pack in the glove box 🤣
Or you can use some wires or a zip tie! I end up using some thick copper wires sense they can handle the heat and it lasted longer and stronger. Those bushing are common to break and they never last long. I used my copper wire and it’s lasting strong and tight I don’t have to worry about it at all
so mine broke when I was up a hill and it was stuck in neutral 😐 I had to keep my foot on the break and flag someone down. they got I my 3500 van and held the break till I popped the cable on just enough to get into drive!
You would have to slide under it and look on the side of your transmission & you would see the shifter linkage it might’ve just came off.. autozone will have the replacement bushing .. should take no more than 5 minutes to install
@@DawhipStopthanks man. Are these bushings any good? Do they last? I would hate do drive one day and it breaks off again too soon. And how did you get yours to fit. It seemed none of the ones I bought fit well.
Okay but what if that part ur linking it to that silver what if that wont move I was able to zip tie it but that silver link to connect to for stiff why
Yep ! just backup daughters, driveway put in park and turned engine off but Tahoe started rolling down hill .Cable came off in reverse so wont restart engine. Applied emerge brake , blocked wheels and crawled under to see cable is off and no bushing at all ! I will fit a stainless bolt with a shank long enough to fill new bushing with 1 or 2 flat washers and a lock nut .Maybe a dab of super lube on the ball and socket.
Unfortunately they will not But these would 👇 BushingFix Si2Kit - Automatic Transmission Shift Cable Bushing Repair Kit, Replacement Shifter Cable Bushing, Quality Transmission Repair Kit, Compatible with Chevrolet, Ford, Jeep, and Other Brands a.co/d/iyKWvIZ
I couldn’t shift out of park Every time I tried to put it on gear The shifter would just go straight down. basically that shifter link bushing is the part that connects the shifter linkage to the transmission Fam 🫡
That’s a good get by…. But just get the correct part…. This is a fix but is temporary… Repair it eventually and you won’t have to worry about that same fix…. Excellent to just get it working
This the second time like a year apart for me bro It’s a ez fix it just happens at the worst times.. but I’m ready for the next time I put a pack of zip ties in the glove box Locked and loaded 🤣
Thanks!
No problem, glad the video was able to help you out…& thanks for the gift I really appreciate that!!!👍

You bet! A beer on me! Take care.
It’s like every six months I got to change mine it sucks but it’s better than paying that 600-700 note 😂
You ain’t never lying 😂I’m just gonna get a extra pack & leave it in the glove box so I’ll already be
Prepared🤣
@@DawhipStop Yep I got two packs just waiting nah smh
You ain’t lying!!! I drive two 09’s, no note, plenty of money for little repairs lol.

This happened to me right after I got off work. I thought my transmission went out I started panic .
I am considering the same. Az hear 110f and I had to deal with this as it broke will car was in reverse 😢
That's me at 2:30am,waiting for my son to pick me up
Bro, my 89 camaro got stuck in reverse today and I literally took that nipple piece out and stuck a bolt and locked a nut on that shit 😂

That’s how I fixed mine 7 years ago and it’s still working great
That's how we do it at Ford
Happens in my 09 escalade every year... I ziptied that mf the greatest 😂😂

I took the lever off, ground off the piece of metal and replace it with a bolt with spacers. Works a lot better
Great idea 🦾

I recommend using Dorman 14057! The orange two-piece one. Worked like a charm.
I will most definitely check it out

14014 GM bushing, you can call your local Chevy dealer and they’ll give you an exact fitting for it rather than replacing the whole cable
