Fantastic.America is a great band. I love "Tin Man". George Martin the Beatles producer was their producer.
He was only their producer from 1974 to 1979, long after this song and album were recorded.
@@frankpentangeli7945 ...Then how is he listed on the album pal??? 🤔
@@ICU2B4UDO George Martin is NOT listed on any version of Homecoming that I own, PAL ... and I own several, both in LP and CD format. John Martyn is listed because he wrote Head and Heart, so maybe some idiot on Spotify fucked up and added George Martin by mistake.
@@frankpentangeli7945 ...Take it up with these 2...THEY'RE the ones that said George Martin was on the record and you said he wasn't...So, who's the that's wrong here?? It's not me bub...
@@ICU2B4UDO The likely answer is that they got the song from a compilation album that came out in '75 when Martin was the producer called, *"History: America's Greatest Hits".* But Frank is correct, this song was originally released on their debut album called, "Homecoming", in '72, a couple of years before Martin had anything to do with the band. You should listen to Frank--he knows the score.
What a time to be alive back then! Best music ever came out of the 60’s 70’s, 80’s!!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
A horse with no name, Tin Man, Daisy Jane, Sandman, I Need You, Lonely People, all great songs!
Absolutely ... Every one a gem !
Sister Golden Hair
"I Need You" is the best.
Your in a convertible, warm ocean breeze and sun on your face and this is playing. Timeless classic
Absolutely. This is a great driving/road trip song.
Love it. I grew up listening to this on the radio.
For sure. Been there. Done that. And wanna do it again & again & again...
America is one of the most popular bands from the seventies ! The had so many hits "Sister Golden Hair" , "A Horse with No Name" , "Sandman" , "Tin Man" =) I just bought their Complete Greatest Hits CD last week =) Thanks Great Reaction
Damn haven't heard those songs for a while. Thanks NicknLex I forgot about this this band. lots of hits
Don’t forget “I need you”.
George Martin was a music producer and he produced much of "America's music, but he did not produce this song.
*~ " I NEED YOU" was their 2nd U.S. Top 10 hit and a beautiful song ~*
3 guitars, 3 vocalists, +pretty darn good bass player and drummer
They did a live session in Germany in 1975 worth checking out some of their tunes...ua-cam.com/video/ujsOx33f4mk/v-deo.html
Hal Blaine and Joe Osborn from the Wrecking Crew
Sir George Martin, the famous producer of the Beatles, worked with America (and ELP and other bands). Great music, saw some time ago on UA-cam a more recent concert by America with lots of their greatest hits. Among them Horse with no Name, Sister Golden Hair, I Need You....
George Martin never worked with ELP
@@bmac1205 Ah, my info says in the seventies Greg Lake did the production of ELP, but George Martin worked with him on that (without accreditation, so hard to prove -) ).
Nope
GL and Eddie Offord
Never in a studio the GM ever set foot in
I’m probably the only ELP fan on the planet that has an ELP scrap book. Paper scrapbook.
What is you ‘source’
ELP did have a connection with Bob Moog
They never worked with George Martin.
They recorded at. Advison, Olympic, AIR studioyall in London
In Montreaux and Paris for Works
In Nassaua Bahamas
George Martin had no association with these studios that I am aware of
George Martin died the same week Keith did in 2016
George Martin has a son named Greg.
There’s no recording producing engineering association with ELP whatsoever
@@bmac1205 Ok, only saw it mentioned on Dutch and German wikipedia pages, not on the English pages, under the George Martin description and the description of the first album by ELP. No clear source for that info, so maybe you are right.
HUGE rabbit hole for you to go down! Try “Sister Golden Hair”, “Only In Your Heart”, “Don’t Cross the River”, “Lonely People”, then just keep going…!! 😎🎶❤
I worked for Heart (40 yrs. ago... they still send me tickets to Puyallup Fair and Marymoor Park and Tacoma Dome, etc).
I rented a white convertible Cadillac, and "Ventura Highway" came on !
On The Ventura Highway ! ;-)
Iconic opening guitar lick....
💕💕💕
Always liked the line 'alligator lizards in the air'. Grew up just east of San Diego and we had some type of skink lizards around the house that we called alligator lizards. Would latch on good when they bit ya. Child of the 60's , America was always on the list of favorites. Horse with no name will always be on top from them. Great reaction.
America one of the great soft rock bands of the early seventies. "Horse with No Name" would be a great choice from them.
Hola! I love this band! Especially this song, A Horse With No Name, Tin man and Sandman
Here's A Nice Starter-Pack For Discovering/Exploring Their Music,, Firefall "Just Remember I Love You",, "You Are The Woman" & "Strange Way"..You Will BOTH LOVE Them.
George Martin famously produced the music of the Beatles also, America had three prolific singer/songwriters backed up by a band. Dewey Bunnell sang and wrote this gem 💎
America is still touring after almost 50 years. Be sure to see them if they are in your area. You will not be disappointed.
This is one of those California band songs ABOUT California that made me want to move to Southern California (which I did, 35 years ago), and never left, and it's lived up to everything the songs made me hope were true. The Southern California/Laurel Canyon vibe is one of my favorite music genres.
Sister Golden Hair, Horse with No Name, Tin Man, some great tracks for you to move onto but I love this song. And purple rain gets a mention, long before Prince!
I always thought Prince “borrowed” that phrase from America. He listened to everything. He bought Joni Mitchell’s album “Hejira” the day before he died.
How could you NOT love America? They’re different than their contemporaries.
Great choice! Some more you'll like: "Tin Man", "Sister Golden Hair", "You Can Do Magic", "Horse With No Name". Thank you!
One of those songs that stirs something in you of days gone by
First time? Cold, crisp autumn morning..sitting in an apple tree, picking
apples for a summer? job, with my transistor radio perched on another
branch, listening to top 40 with my fav DJ. Every time I hear this song,
I smell apples, feel first sunshine and all is very right with the world.
Thanks guys. ❤️🔥
Beautiful!
Lovely memory!
Awesome! This song makes me think of the taste of a long piece of grass and the sound of red winged black birds while walking on a country road with my Dad in summer. Love that feeling of contentment ❤️
George Martin was the producer of the Beatles and later America.
Good suggestions for other America. "Horse With No Name" was a huge hit for them, as was "Sister Golden Hair", and "Tin Man" was also very popular. If you're digging that genre, I've got some other directions: Poco, Loggins/Messina, Seals & Crofts, Brewer and Shipley...
What Tom said!!!
All are Greats!
Right on Tom. Firefall had some great tunes as well.
Yes, Poco was a band I loved and bought the 1971 album From the Inside which got me off to a good start. Timothy has had a magical career!
First heard it 50 years ago when it came out, loved it then and it has stood the test of time like all great 70s music.
They are still performing and are a legend.
So so glad you are hitting these guy, just SO good. Please consider Tin Man, Horse with no name, Daisy Jane, Sister Golden Hair, Three Roses. They represent Americana folk rock to me.
Great Song. Yes, as others have probably said, George Martin was the Producer (Of the Beatles and later, America). I'm just going to put this out there again, you really need to listen to "Rocky Mountain High" by John Denver. As Coloradan's, you need to do your duty!!!!!
Agree on the John Denver comment!!!!!!
America is the absolute best❤❤❤❤❤
This band has many hits.
a great rabbit hole for sure!
this here 'Merican ! loves them for sure !!!
thanks guys
Great Reaction To A Beautiful Classic...America "Sandman" & "Muskrat Love"...Nuff Said.
AWESOME Loved your reaction to this song. “One of the great albums of all time’. Many great song from this group. Thanks much.
Neil Young told a story that his own father called him to say he liked Neil’s new hit, but he was referring to “Horse With No Name” by America. Some people, Neil included, thought it sounded like “Heart of Gold” which it bumped in the charts. Oh well. 🤷🏻♀️ Lol.
We lost Willie Leacox, the drummer for America this year. 🌺 A friend dated someone in the band so I got to meet them later in their career and we took Willie to a bar with live music and introduced him to another drummer we knew who played with Brian Setzer. Nice guy. RIP Willie. ✨💕
F1rst!!!
Alligator lizards in the aiiiiiiiir!!!
#nicknlexreation
Suite Judy Blue Eyes
"Tin Man" by America will blow your minds....intertwining harmonies..
America: "I Need You", "Lonely People", "Don't Cross The River" "Horse With No Name" ... so many more
“We used to laugh, we used to cry”… pretty much says it all quite simply; a pleasant little song (“I Need You”) with a really nice key change thrown in.
Brings back memories of driving down the highway in my 1973 VW super beetle… Feeling so young and free!
As a child of the 60's and 70's, we had the best damn music! I'll even throw in the 80's, but that's it!
Crosby, Stills, and Nash (and sometimes Young) is another group from that era who sang great harmonies.
I remember one warm spring day I was cruising on the Ventura Hwy, windows down, my arm out the window surfing the wind, and then this song came on. It felt so serendipitous. It was a good day and I cherish that.
America is a good choice to dive in to, sister golden hair, tin man & horse with no name... all great songs.... you would enjoy them all...
Their music makes me smile. I have all of their Albums. That's a lot for a Prog and Metal guy.
then you must a few more than me, I got only 6 or 7 😆
I'm a prog and metal fan too, and I have all of America's '70s and '80s albums, and am working on getting the more recent ones. I love this band so much!
Really surprised guys that your radar hasn't come upon them before...........but you are still babies I guess!!
Immaculately produced West Coast treats, aside from the other songs mentioned here I also love I Need You, Daisy Jane, Sister Golden Hair and Story of a Teenager.
I just absolutely love this song. I love singing the harmony! Definitely a classic!!❤️ I hope you guys check out more of America. Merica!😂😂😂😂
You can tell Nick really likes something when he reaches for his guitar! 👍😎
Nothing much to add except when you get to Sister Golden Hair it reminds me so much of the summer of 75 where you will find many pop gems. Love you guys!!
George Martin was the producer for the Beatles.
First heard America when this came out. Such a great song but their library is full of great tunes. You should bookend their catalog and do Magic from 80s. Gracias mis amigos hermosos..
Top America tune, permanently on my phone - Good choice 👌👍
A little America history: The three band members met in England while their parents were in the US Air Force. They played the local club seen after high school. Finally moving back to the US, they had their first real success with the 1972 hit song, "A Horse With No Name". Towards the end of the 1970's Dan Peek left the band to do Contemporary Christian music. They had hit with songs like, Ventura Highway, Tinman, I Need You, Sister Golden Hair, and others. 1982 They had their last mainstream hit with, "You Can Do Magic".
One of my favorites from the 70s, kind of where folk rock travelled to. Definitely listen to “Horse with No Name,” their first breakout hit. Great reaction guys. Peace
"America" was, strangely enough, formed in the UK by three friends whose parents were US air force personnel stationed in the UK. They had quite a bit of chart success in Europe especially with the superb "Horse With No Name", interestingly it, ("Horse..."), is one of a tiny number of songs which only use one chord. Finally I'm amazed that you didn't know George Martin, with the Beatles connection and often called the fifth Beatle, I thought everyone would know who he was even if they weren't particularly fans of the Fab Four.
Two chords Em and D6/9.
disagree billy preston owns that honor he is the one and only billy shears
George Martin did not produce America until 2 years after this song came out.
@@Cosmo-Kramer Lex was reading George Martins name from Spotify or wherever they picked up the info and was confusing Martin for a member of the band. George Martin had a lot to do with the track Tin Man and I do believe he is credited with the keyboards on that track from the album In The Country, which Martin produced.
I concur, Em and D6/9(sh?), and Billy Preston was 5th Beatle. Harry Nilsson was the American Beatle. George was the wizard behind the curtain, so-to-speak.
1972.... Freshman in High School..... those were the days!!!
Love it... them, and you!!
Regards,
ALinCAL
Yes, I've heard this before. I have the album and was singing along just now. This is music from my young tween-teen years. Played it all the time. George Martin is a music producer, not a performer. He produced the Beatles, as others have said.
America is one of my all time favorite bands! So many great songs. Try Tin Man and Horse with No Name next.
Fond memories - an America concert was my first date in 1977! Tickets were $6 a piece...
"Alligator lizards in the air..." - Iconic lyrics within a great song. Awesome pick on this one!
My favorite America song ♥️ keep going down the America rabbit hole!
I remember that big outbreak of alligator lizards in the air. It was horrible. Many casualties, with survivors requiring extensive psychological help. They never discovered the cause.
This was amazing for me. On a fluke, you discovered what I believe to be America's best track "Ventura Highway." Don't get me wrong, America has plenty of good hits, but "Ventura Highway" penetrates the deepest. Try "Lonely People" for another America song that cuts deep. Cheers from the long lost Rock and Roll Past!
45+ yrs of listening to America. Some of the finest sounds my ears have ever heard. Chewin on a piece of grass walkin down the road.
FIFTY years ago, just starting college, driving my car. That's what I always remember.
Sir George Martin was the producer of the album who worked with a band who you may have heard of: The Beatles. America had a series of great albums through the 70’s with many, many hit singles. Great harmonies and triple guitars. 🔥
America were America air pilots sons based in UK. I saw them live in 1971 warming up for a band called Family. They were really good live too. Their first album was produced by Paul Samwell Smith famous for producing Cat Stevens and being in The Yardbirds. He also had a band called Box Of Frogs
Love this band since their first album,,this song came out while i was in my last year of high school...1972
I love this song ❤ I was young but remember it being played a lot on the radio in the UK 🇬🇧 . Great talented trio 😊
'.Alligator lizards in the air"....one of those song phrases that makes no sense but rhymes to make the song work......either way, a great, great song for me. Pure 1970's
I love listening to America. You really need to check out their other songs - Horse with No Name, Sister Golden Hair, Tin Man, Daisy Jane, You Can Do Magic. and many others.
America helped me get through basic training in 1972. And the hits kept coming. There are many to go through. Enjoy the trip!
Sister Golden Hair by America will get your hearts pumping.
A great America song. Also check out A Horse with No Name, You Can Do Magic, Tin Man, Sandman, Sister Golden Hair, and Daisy Jane
America was the epitome of country rock in the 70's along with the Eagles. Great harmonies that still sound great today. We were so lucky to grow up during this era of great music.
I remember in 1972, buying 'Hit Parade' magazine and seeing lyrics for this song and 'Sister Golden Hair. I was just about to turn 14yo. GREAT SUMMER MUSIC!!!
Their harmonies are fantastic! Listen to Tin man and Horse with no name. And all the other ones, haha. You can't do wrong with America!
Man, how I miss the 70s! It seems that no matter what the genre was, all these musicians were so highly trained/skilled at their instruments. And the song writing! Saludos desde California.
.Horse with no name' is their top offering. Saw them in the 90s and sang every song. Most enjoyable concert.
The radio hits of this era were so good. We were so radio driven back in the day for our music. Loved my transistor radio with single corded ear bud.
George Martin produced all of The Beatles albums, and he also worked with America in that regard. America was blessed with three songwriters who also all sang. They had a fair number of hits which include Tin Man, Sister Golden Hair, Daisy Jane and Sandman. You can't go wrong with any of those.
One of my favorite bands, and one of the best concerts I've ever been to. So many great songs. Glad to see some new fans keeping it alive.
Dang, Nick really is a quickstudy...like Isaac Asimov, who once said: "I'm not a speed reader, I'm a speed understander."
Careful with America though. Their other big hit was found to be based on false information. You see, the horse did have a name, which was "Horsey". Moreover, people in the desert reportedly have no trouble remembering their name. This may mean something someday.
Like John Boulder, I mean Denver, America, the band, was more sweetness and light than dark and heavy. A slightly lightweight Eagles who themselves were not heavy but would probably never appear on Lawrence Welk, whereas it is possible that America might appear on there...and if there, then, by extension, Cracker Barrel: "More, nay, exactly as fun as a barrel of crackers!"
I saw America, the product, in a fairly small venue in wondrous Charlotte, with Foghat, and a half dozen decent bands. I also saw Floyd's "Dark Side" on the same stage earlier, so I have no memory of any of these localish bands. In retrospect, the name kept them from being too weird. "Mothers of Inventions" almost demands iconoclastic innovation. Peace y'all.
I am shot right back to family road trips out west, tuning in to whatever AM radio stations we could get in the car and watching the beauty of the U.S. going by with the windows down in the summertime and the wind rushing in. Radio was a gift at that time. The vocals. In the lineage of Crosby, Stills, and Nash to my ears. Your openness to these great tunes is inspiring!
Great Song !! Very underrated band !!
Longtime America drummer Wil Leacox passed away earlier this year.
One of my favorite songs of all time.
One of the all time greatest road trip songs! Listen to A Horse With No Name next.
Great band most of their songs i love !
It's unbelievable that this band still waits for iduction into Rock and Roll Hall of fame
That's insane!!
My dad brought this LP home from a trip to Spain in 1983, it's been a favorite album of mine ever since. Curiously, this rather short album (30-some minutes) had a three-gatefold(!) album cover/sleeve...
Hey Nick and Lex - you hit another one of my favorite songs with Ventura Highway. Do you remember when I told you in the comment section for Woman In Chains, that certain songs have an interesting tonal quality? There is a sonic quality in the freshness of the acoustic guitar during Ventura Highway that grabs the brain and doesn't let go.
You caught this fact in the first few seconds of listening! Cool beans!
This is why your reaction videos mean so much to me. It's like watching myself introduce you to the music I love!
You are doing a wonderful job keeping all of us smiling.
Ken
George Martin was the Beatles producer and considered the fifth Beatle for his production & additional arrangements- having had a classical music background. He was brought in to produce America and given credit. Great song. Must listen to A Horse with No Name and Sister Golden Hair - iconic America songs.
When on FAMILY vacation to Disney california ,this song came on while we were on Ventura highway, first time hearing song ,always brings back memories of trip
A perfect recording of one of the best songs ever written.
Another Group That Is Also Known For Their Absolutely Beautiful Music Is "Firefall"...They Are More Than Well Worth Your Time Exploring.
Horse With No Name was America's first hit single, and the first of their songs that I ever heard. It's a place to great start with them.
Sandman is their rocker.
Best played loudly. Your neighbors Will love it.
A horse with no name, was my favorite, but they had a lot of great music. Another group of the same time was Bread, another band that was under rated. My favorite from these guys is Guitar Man.
Horse With No Name or Sister Golden Hair. Heard it when it first came out while I was in college. Loved the acoustic guitar sound and of course their harmonies. Hey you got it Nik!
Some of the best harmonies of the 70's right there.
saw them back in 1971 at the Round house in Chalk Farm when they were still living in London. Their song "I need you" was played so often - worth a listen...
