It's amazing how he just rolled with getting the lines wrong and improvised his way out. I can almost imagine him damning himself a little when he said the "Deep insiiiiide". =P But it still fits, cause now it sounds like Jekyll is trying to ignoring Hyde and focus even more desperately on finding the good "Deep inside". Anthony Warlow, man. Dude's a legend
Incredible that I finally see Anthony perform this song live. The soundtrack version in 1994 is by far the best rendition of this difficult and creative song but that version had the advantage of separate recording of Jekyll part and Hyde part. I always had the curiosity how Anthony will make this done simultaneously and in this clip I can feel that he could manage the simultaneity with all the perfection that he also had shown in other songs.
@@na1959 Which is better in my opinion. Live performances of this never sound as good as the soundtrack when the performer has to sing and act both Jekyll and Hyde. And I think the changing lights work much better then the "Hasselhoff hair flip" to switch between Jekyll and Hyde.
@@m.degroot6837 yeah, I like changing the lights better too. I guess the hair flip is more closeup on the internal struggle through expressions but the light one just looks so much more theatrical and scary which is pretty important for this story. Live can sound good..of course, I agree they won't sound as good as the soundtrack which does hyde and Jekyll separately and therefore notes on point and no running out of breath. I think kings academy actually has a really good live one for confrontation which is so impressive since it's a high school kid performing. Check it out, it's great.
@@m.degroot6837 I think that’s because for some reason, some productions have the song at a faster tempo than what is heard on either the Complete Works album or the original Broadway cast recording.
This is incredible, I do wish they took the tempo down to its original pace as this is far faster which takes away from the duet (solo) greatly but Anthony Warlow still kills it. He is and always will be the best Jekyll and Hyde
Yees! Anthony Warlow live :O I've been really curious lately on how the heck Anthony Warlow would act it out. It's one thing to change voices so fast and sing so much without breathing, but to act it out too? To change your body posture constantly, making it harder for your voice to come through? That's just insane! Anthony does not disappoint. I love the way they made Hyde a big shadowy silhouette as well. It's genious and really makes him look wicked and beastly!
Hyde’s part was prerecorded. Anthony was only singing Jekyll’s lines for the performance. There’s even a moment near the end where he says the wrong line as Jekyll and so the rhyme by Hyde is incomplete. Jekyll was supposed to sing “Damn you, Hyde! Set me free!”, which Hyde replies with “Can’t you see? You ARE me!”.
Unfortunately, Hyde’s part was prerecorded. You can tell by how quieter Hyde’s section is compared to Jekyll’s since that part is sung live and Anthony messed up a line near the end, thus not rhyming with Hyde’s response.
I was anticipating this show so much, since it’s the first time we’re really seeing him perform this role live (as opposed to just the soundtrack album). I wish there was more footage of it, but this video seems to be the only thing that exists of it. It would be even better if it was professionally-filmed like the concert versions of quite a few other musicals (Les Mis twice, Sweeney Todd at least once, Phantom of the Opera, etc).
Nonononononono I did NOT miss this!!!!!!!!! I’m seriously freaking out here. ANYONE TELL ME YOU HAVE MORE FOOTAGE OF THIS PERFORMANCE!!!!!!!!!!! Nevertheless I am thankful to at least this clip of this legendary moment! :)
I was there for both nights in Melbourne it was incredible. Me and my girlfriend went stage dooring the second night and got to meet him and the rest of the cast. He was incredibly humble as where the rest of the cast. I'm so happy that he did this show at all, I really never thought he would. We saw him in Sweeney Todd earlier that year as well. He really is such an incredible actor/singer. For anyone hoping to at least hear more of this show there are two full audios of the performance out there, one from the Sydney show and another from the second Melbourne show.
If I accidentally repeated the "No. Deep inside!" Line, I would have said after the first time, "Forever be, Edward Hyde!" And then continued it. I think that would be cool.
@DraculaHyde im gonna try to put all the clips I have together, I don’t have many and they are pretty short, so hopefully I can figure that out, but otherwise I’d be happy to send them to you, if there’s a way to do that haha.
I went to the Melbourne one of this. I was eagerly anticipating The Confrontation the whole night. I was so disappointed that parts of it were prerecorded. I feel like he could have done it completely live if they had slowed in down a touch. He's such a great character actor that he would do well in the switching but they seem to have sped up the arrangement here, which would make it even more difficult. Side note for the performance I saw: I loved the costume choice for Hyde. It was like a mix of a rockstar and a steampunk character. Hyde was dark and scary but also had moments of humour that were unexpected but wonderful. Jemma Rix was also amazing as Lucy. It would have been amazing if they had done a DVD recording of this concert. It was a milestone after all. Anthony Warlow continues to be my all time favourite stage performer.
@@jessica23claire ha it was awesome. I didn't expect him to go for the high note in Alive. I thought he would sing it down the octave but he did it and it was amazing!
@@jessica23claire I know. I found a really old video of him singing on Aussie tv. His voice was amazing back then too but you can hear that maturity has made his voice so much richer.

It sounds so good... BUT I'm pretty sure that the HYDE Part is pre recorded... You can clearly hear the microphone difference... (Jekyll is much louder) - I'm not sure if it's the whole song but you can clearly hear at 1:37 that from there it's not live anymore (HYDE)
Actually Broadway invented the actor dueting with himself Live. The tour before Broadway and the original production, Hyde was a recorded projection in a mirror. It looked less silly and and the staging and acting was much better. Now the duet with yourself live became such a well known gimmick that when it came back to Broadway with Constantine in the role and they did the mirror version again, people felt cheated. Albiet...his looked like a cheesy Halloween music video with fire and bats flying around
Weirdly this is not how I remembered it from Melbourne. I always remembered it was Hyde who sang the lost in the darkness part though weirdly (That's exactly how I felt when I was sitting in the audience. I was like - hold on, Hyde??? That's not right, but seems right?)
@@solarmaru49 He only lip synced Hyde's part and sung Jekyll. He was clearly under the weather, you could hear it from the top of the show. He was wonderful

He did the same thing here but this clip only has the second part of lost in the darkness. Yet you can still hear at the start of this clip "endless night" sound like it's Hyde. Yeah, I'm wondering that myself. To be honest, I think Warlow's crounching and raising his arm upwards as Hyde is best here, while the use of red lights as opposed to white in the Highschool production is also best there.
