Still have my account from june 2006. I want this site or something similar to come back. I loved those times of the internet... There were so many different sites to go to, nowadays social media has hijacked the internet. Also this was such a renaissance period of so many cool videogames/art that came out back then

Unironically, Gaia was the game that introduced me to the internet. In a weird way, it taught me how to socialize outside of just being some awkward kid.
I'm 27. I made my Gaia account when I was 13, I'm still in contact with several of the friends I made there and have even visited several IRL now!
It's been 15 years, I'm still friends with 3 of my old Gaia friends and life is half alright.
Me too, although I met some of them at a Gaia panel at my local convention.

oh the drama and bullying that could take place on that site. it was some of the most batshit insane stuff you could ever witness. i’m certain i experienced stuff on that site as a teen and young adult that gave me permanent trauma. lmao.

I started playing Gaia Online with my sister in 2006. I was 8 years old back then, and she was 10 at that time. I played it from 2006 to 2012, and she played it from 2006 to 2013. We came back playing this game during the peak of the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020 to 2021. Well, it was one of the best experience we have when we were a child back then. Those memories are forever cherished, to be honest.

I don't quite remember *exactly* when I started, seeing as how I had around 3 different accounts at different points of my life for different reasons, but the earliest point definitely had to be somewhere in the mid-2000s when i was still in middle school.
This website shaped an entire generation in its heyday. The friend group I had at school actually had a service for kids like myself who didn't have an easy way to buy monthly collectibles where they'd gather up money from everyone who wanted some as well as your username and sent that money by mail so you could get yours. Looking back, it honestly *sounds* like it was a huge scam on the organizer's part, but they were actually honest about it and did what they said they would, because I did end up getting a few collectibles this way.
Man, what a treasure trove of memories.
I was able to get UBER rich on gaia and buy all of the OG monthly collectibles.

i know im having one of those days, i legit sat down today and just said to myself "yo remember gaia?" Nostalgia slapped me like a bitch.
There's always this pain in my heart and butterflies in my stomach everytime i remember all the time i spent here and the people i met, Gaia cinema after a long day of TT farming with the homies blasting music in the background, going afk in towns 1 and 2 listening to gorillaz huddled in a group where everyone is dressed the same, the drama between guilds and shit, like....... no matter what the reality of this game is rn, in my memories atleast nothing tops the explosive social impact gaia had on me growing up, and the crazy thing is, it still all feels just like yesterday, it was one hell of an escape, i wish this game had a different fate but its depressing. I keep wishing one day i'll wake up and suddenly hear there's this massive resurgence or something but that'll never happen.
also thanks for covering this lol. The community was a cespool, the market was a mess and zomg came back way too late, but i miss it all the same.

@@JustYutaJP sorry this took a while to reply. The worlds have nobody in them. You can't get a home placed however you can still design it. I really like it so far but I don't think it will ever compare to the old gaia because some of the flash functions don't work.
Lol I was too poor to buy collectables and get a monthly subscription. So I would collect rare butterflies and sell them in the store for gold. I ended getting some really cool things but there was always the cool kids who had the bad a.. Sh.. I mean mind blowing outfits. Some users were super rude lol called me a noob a few times 😂 there was a class system on there for sure it was pretty mean. Then I did make a lot of friends and had fun but had to also block weirdos. Was interesting time for sure.

I remember joining Gaia online during my middle-school days, it was in part due the internet being kind of a new thing to me (funny considering nowadays) and when I got my laptop I remember visiting newgrounds often and Gaia online was advertised there often and I gave it a shot.
Gaia was such a pleasant experience honestly, where I felt like an outcast at school (corny cliche but it is what it is), the site had plenty of wonderful people. And there was a lot to talk about and explore. Great times, specially considering that english is not my native language to begin with.
Funny I wasn't aware that the site was still supported somehow with such a browser, maybe I'll check it out just out of curiosity.

My first "girlfriend" was on here and I lost my account and lost touch with her. It killed me inside. I could not figure out how to get my account back to talk to her. And I bet she thought I just left her. My heart ached for her, worrying that she felt abandoned by me. I never fully got over the thought of that. If I could find her today even with all the time that has passed I would tell her I'm so sorry we didn't keep in touch. Who knows how different life would have been. The impact was that great for me.
Weird. I didn't really get into anime til' idk Netflix came out. I mean I played Yugioh when I was 16, yep Yugioh and Pokemon, with a lil' Digimon, that was about all the anime I watched. So I didn't know about Gaia nor would I have gotten into it. My woman was into it which is why I'm here watching this video. I was just so dumbfounded by how much money she spent back in the day on this game. Well now she plays DC online and spends money on stuff that she can't even hold. 😂 But yeah, this was interesting, I mean I had Myspace I guess, but even then Idk seeing this Gaia game is just wild, because it's hard to believe my lady was actually on this game daily.
Many of us are still here! If you like the forums and just like messing around when dressing your avi, then you'll have a good time. Money and the prestige of having a certain avatar item isn't as big of a deal anymore because most of us are adults and kinda over it lmao but many of us love to go on the forums for good/fun conversation and a break from the doomscrolling and general lameness modern social media has. It really feels like there's real people, for better or worse, that you're talking to. The pace of everything feels much less insane. The games and hangout areas are in the middle of getting fixed up, you can still make a very custom profile and write in your journal, you can still read the manga and participate in the runway. Yeah, Gaia isn't what it used to be, but it's going through changes and listening directly to it's userbase so you never know what the future holds for this place. It feels like one of the last places you can go to run away from algorithms, celebrity accounts, web3, bots, and just chill with some random internet people for a little bit. I've been on Gaia since about 2007 or so when I was in 6th grade, and I'm 31 now, and while I leave for months or even years at a time I still come back and love it all over again. It remains one of those places online that just always feels like home.

I remember signing up in 2005 during college. Gaiaonline actually made me have friends in college who were also fellow Gaian people. it's also one of the reasons I have a beautiful woman in my life with her beautiful child. BTW, a few of the gaia people to whom have meet back then have stayed in contact since were now in our late 30's and 40s. Thank you Gaia.

I get it! My bestie back then introduced me to it and I never forgot it. Played it for years and years. One of the best interactive websites ever! Could spend hours on end :) so many fun things to do.
i just got back into it after a 10 year hiatus and the amount of new things to do are overwhelming. i was shocked to see 3k people on there at all times as the average. I hope it'll make a comeback, it was such a great and nostalgic forum.
Speaking of banned, i was trying to log in yesterday; the site told me there's a reactivation email. I didn't recieve it. Tried again this morning, same result. I use the other option; sending a request to get my account back. It's blocked even if i was never impolite to other users, i never insult anyone since i create my account.
I really want to play again; killing monsters in ZOMG was fun and it's an easier way to win money than the puzzles. It's also nice to meet different peoples, chat a bit with them while i am killing puffs 😃

I lost my account last year to hackers and the dev/support team has been completely no help and my account was literally worth thousands and thousands of dollars.
zOMG on any given day was crowded any made so much gold in group sessions fighting. The economy destroyed everything and no flash

I went back to Gaia not too long ago just to see how much had changed(I hadn’t logged in for a long time, about 7 or 8 years). Found out my account had been deleted which surprised me because there were inactive accounts that were much older than mine that were still around. I didn’t really care though, I felt I’d grown out of that site anyway and the changes it was going through made it much less appealing to me.
