I was 15 when l saw your first video and I'm from lndia , lndia is know for mathematics 📐📊📚 and trust me you inspired me a lot and I'll be representing my nation at imo! ( international maths olympiad) soon..... Cuz of u.. I just love ❤ beauty of your knowledge!!!!
Great video! Back in my undergraduate career, I remember loving Complex Analysis and Non Euclidean Geometry the most, and indifferent to Probability and Mathematical Statistics. Funny enough, I’m an actuary.
I am so glad that you are interested, but It’s not amazing for me because i already learned on detail 15 years ago in South Korea. Technology is always advanced when people are thinking. Good luck to you.
Loved this video! It was really interesting and informative, and i love how you also explain the maths to give context to what they're about. From watching this video it seems you lean more towards probability and statistics. If you don't mind me asking, why didn't you choose to do a Mathematics and Statistics degree? Or switch to it? Either way, thanks so much for this video, looking foward to a video on the courses and modules you took in your later years as well ❤
Good video! I have to ask....do you do some kind of review/preparation before a video like this? I'm a math major...but I know if I were asked to provide info of my last years classes I would struggle to produce such coherent summaries!!!
Hi loana, what advice would you given to a year 12 student currently student A level and A level further mathematics in terms of getting into a top university. Thanks
Hi Iona, not sure if you still check these comments but how was it doing probability AND quantum theory in Michaelmas. Doing basically 6 courses is scaring me a bit.
It certainly does sound scary to do both, but I would for sure recommend it! For me, after coming from 8 sheets/course in Prelims, it felt a bit reassuring to only have 4 sheets/course in second year, so I guess that also played a part 😅 it definitely is manageable if you enjoy the courses!!
Hi Ioana, I had a couple of questions about the Oxford Maths course. Do you think it’s a good course for those with a strong interest in theoretical physics and physics in general? It seems like it’s tailored primarily towards those interested in pure mathematics and computer science, but I could be wrong . Also, do international students need a higher MAT score to get in?
For the MAT, international students definitely do not need a higher score, they are treated equally as domestic applicants. To be honest, I think the Maths course is a really heavy on the Pure Mathematics side, especially in the first 2 years. You don’t get any freedom to choose your courses in your first year, but there are several physics heavy courses (Dynamics, Fourier Series, Multivariable Calculus). You need to go through Analysis and Linear Algebra and Groups though. You get a bit more freedom in your second year, so you can definitely choose courses like Waves and Fluids, Quantum Theory etc, but you still need to take Metric Spaces and Complex Analysis, say, which is the definition of Pure Maths. You get complete freedom in your third year. So to sum it up, if you like a bit of abstract, pure mathematics as well, then yes, sure, it’s a great course for those with interest in physics too! :) hope this helped! 😉
What's nice about the oxford maths course is that it gets a massive amount of options in the 3rd and 4th years, and, if I understand it correctly, in the 4th year you can take the same options as those studying the MsC in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. A lot of the pure courses are also useful in physics and theoretical physics; Linear Algebra becomes necessary whenever you start working with more than one dimension; I remember the Fluid Dynamics made ample use of the Complex Analysis course; General and Special Relativity benefit of familiarity with Geometry; and, well, the stuff String theorist are doing has prompted research in Algebraic Geometry. The one thing I'd note is that a physicist might be interested in applying these tools, while the oxford course makes a lot of emphasis in building these tools. You do not need to understand why the dimension of a vector space is well defined to be able to use it to describe the world, for example. I would recommend considering a course primarily focused in Physics if that is your main interest, or a Maths&Physics joint degree which are offered by some universities.
NAMASTE ROMAN! MY NAME IS NAVAL KISHOR RANA. I HAVE FEW SUGGESTIONS FOR YOU, 1. MAKE TIMELINE OF HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS IT IS VERY HELPFUL WHEN YOU STUDY MATHS,ALWAYS REMEMBER WHY THIS CONCEPT CAME INTO EXISTENCE?ALWAYS DOUT?WHAT PROBLEM?ALWAYS STUDY IN THIS MANNER THAT THIS CONCEPT IS WRONG AND YOU TAKE CHARGE TO QUESTIONED FIND OUT WHAT IS RIGHT. AND WHAT IS WRONG 2.ALWAYS REMEBER BASIC LAW OF MATHEMATICS 1.Closer property,2.Associative law,3.Commutative law 4.Distribution over addition and multiplication 5.Identity elements 6.Inverse elements 7.Additive inverse. 2..Paper vs ipad notes.... if you have spiral copy open the spiral copy collect the pages put it into printer print the notes and then put back to spiral copy it manages the time and energy. Thank You! HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY OF INDIA! NAMASTE!
I miss it, I studied maths and loved it. Thank you for sharing your experience

Looking forward to your third year video!
Hopefully coming in 2 weeks time! 😅

Yeah the “dual” of a vector space was so confusing at first
thanks for sharing ur math experiences.

@@ioanaroman2947 thank you very much for the advice! I think I’ll probably end up doing both as well I’ll just cross my fingers. :)
Do you still use your ipad a lot (I'm assuming your second year classes were in person)?
Yes, I do, I definitely do - I used it in all my lectures and for solving problem sheets ☺️
thanks for the details of the courses
very off topic but i thought the thumbnail was taylor swift for a second! 😂 🤦♂️
Pretty sure you will become a great Data Scientist !
Nice video. Can you ever, please, share your lecture notes? Thanks. greetings

I would love to have you as a course mate in post graduate.
I am waiting for videos about your following years.
I have some questions.
Can you solve these problems
Thank you!
What language is this???
Kaha se ho
I have a question , plzz answer this -
What are the benefits of scoring full marks in MAT Exam?
Well I guess you would most definitely get invited to the interviews and then it only depends on how well you perform there ☺️
