    Learn how to make Bajra Khichdi at home with Chef Ruchi Bharani.
    Bajra khichdi is a warm and nutritious recipe that can be made during winters. This recipe is prepared with pearl millet, moong dal, vegetables and a lot of spices. Bajra Khichdi is a very healthy recipe that can be made for lunch or for tiffin. It is quick and easy to make in pressure cooker.
    Ingredients:
    (Serves 4)
    - 1 tbsp Oil
    - 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
    - 1 Bay Leaf
    - 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
    - 2 Cloves
    - 1 tbsp Garlic Paste
    - 1 tbsp Ginger Paste
    - 1 Onion (chopped)
    - 2 Tomatoes (chopped)
    - 8-10 French Beans (chopped)
    - 1 Carrot (chopped)
    - 1/2 cup Green Peas
    - 1 cup Pearl Millet (soaked)
    - 1/2 cup Split Moong Dal (washed)
    - 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
    - 1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
    - 1 tsp Coriander & Cumin Seed Powder
    - 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
    - 2 Green Chillies (chopped)
    - Salt
    - 500 ml Water
    - 1 tbsp Ghee
    - Coriander Leaves (chopped)

    This looks so good! Is it possible to make using a Dutch oven rather than a pressure cooker? If so, what would you do differently and how long would you cook it?

      Slow cook for 5 hrs+ ? After 3 hrs check every 30 mins. That may help. I usually use instapot. You have patience😄. cook time for me 12 mins

    I followed the exact recipe, and soaked the pearl millet overnight. The taste turned out great but my millets were undercooked after six whistles also, so I pressure cooked for three more whistles. Unfortunately, it still felt a tad bit undercooked. I ate it like that haha, I hope it won't lead to any health hazards.

      If you grind a little bit before soaking it over night it would be better. Traditionally, bajra is pestled in the mortar before making khichdi.

    You can use coarse grinded bajra ( bajra dalia). It's easy to cook even without soaking. I use the same.

    For me Kichadi is a Satvik meal. I would avoid Onions, Garlic, Green and Red Chili and other masalas and instead use Hing and fresh crushed Black pepper powder.

    I'm farmer and I have best quality pearl millet (Bajra) 60 rs pr kg ...organic and best quality. In market it's also available at 16 -20 rs pr kg ..
