Makes good power stock… I don’t blame them for going cheap then on the exhaust since a whole lot of people are just going to chuck it in the garbage for aftermarket, and with the wheel setup… I’m thinking it’s almost like Nissan knew a lot of these were going to get modified…
There's interviews with Nissan engineers and they say this exactly. The autos have a nicer exhaust with valves an stuff, but the manuals are giving the cheapest thing they can get expecting it to be replaced.
Hmm... I don't think a whole lot will chuck on aftermarkets. This isn't a car, in Australia anyway ($80,000 dive away for base model), that kids can afford to buy. Regular rev heads and Enthusiast, sure, some might, but a lot of those people like to keep cars stock - most older people just do not mod new cars much. Either emissions/noise regulations across all the markets forced Nissans hand, or Nissan dropped the ball on it. Again, 80k is a lot - compared to the 71k Mustang with more power, and a better chassis setup.
As much as I really want to enjoy watching this car evolve into something that’s top of the game in the Z world, I can’t help but think it’ll eventually end up the same way as many modern MOTIVE projects and end up in some shonky car raffling business… Please prove me wrong!

Congrats on the Z Proto pickup mate! Il be following your build and development closely ! Will be going on the waiting list very soon for my own Z in grey !
In GRMs track test logs it seemed pretty much equal in acceleration on the straights to the GR86, slightly surprising. Would be interesting to see your track data since you also happen to have a gr/brz.
Surely if you're going run a more aggressive offset on the front you want to be running a wider wheel too to maintain the factory scrub radius? Will add weight to the steering and cause more bumpsteer/kickback with the more positive scrub radius.
I reckon a good chunk of that weight on the stock wheels will be down to the tyres, those S007s are a pretty weighty tyre, in the stock Z size they're like 14kg each or something like that.
nearly got us, think we got one in and tuned only a couple of hours before you guys did your baselines. We have added the aus roms so you should be able to tune it now. .
G'day Andrew. great content as always. can't wait to see where you take the new Z. some constructive feedback for you, from an audio engineers perspective, grab 250 bucks and buy yourself a set of (Aussie deisgned) RODE Wireless GO microphones. these will significantly improve your audio quality, and elevate your content to the next level. I scored a Citizen Nissan Fairlady Z watch in the Nissan HQ in Yokohama during a April business trip. It's a sweet as watch and get a carbon key fob I just need the car to match and use the sweetas key fob. The watch is Titanium and 1 of 100 direct from Nissan and 1 of 1700 world wide but not as nice as your new beast.
Sick car but I’m not in love with the front end design, doesn’t have a tough aggressive look, but I guess it’s keeping true to the Z’s of the past which had a very round front end with softer lines.
We've had this platform since 2018 on my wife's Q50S red sport we got 263kw at the tyres on a roller dyno with 708nm. In a 7 speed auto. What was you NM? Can't wait for mods been waiting for someone to start with these cars
Same here. After ordering over a year in advance (at the reveal Aug last year?) and being told on two occasions "we have ya details" blah blah I totally got the shaft like so many others.
Andrew, question for you buddy… given the capacity… where do you see the aftermarket options expanding? supercharged or turbocharged? Why would Nissan put on a more expensive and elaborate exhaust system when they know more than half pf these cars will drop it for a larger after market one? Sounds like wise cost savings passed down to the buyer!
Ugh, wanted to like this and have to commend Nissan (or any manufacturer for that matter) for making a car like this - But, old chassis, old engine, way too heavy for a two door sports car and just ugly from every angle except from the rear...
This is why I/we love motive new car straight to the dyno and mods immediately

368 whp is about 410 to 432 bhp, depending on the 10% or 15% drivetrain loss calculation, which is healthy.
