    For me this is THE most difficult piano trio ever written... Absolutely stunning performance here!

      You are right. The peculiar intrication of the string instruments and the piano in the medium range is touchy.

      I am afraid that you will meet expression problemns rather than technical problems.

      Jeffrey Chan why didn't you mention Ravel's or Shostakovich's 2nd Piano Trio?

      You should listen to the works of Clara Schumann, his wife and an incredible composer herself. They wrote in a similar style.

    When you listen to Schumann's chamber music everything else seems so dry and boring. He was the embodiment of romanticism.period.

    This trio was for long considrerd as inferior to the first ones because it dated from the latest period of Schumann, when his capacities were said to deiminish due to his mental moments of illness. A common criticism was the concentration of the sonority in the medium range. I consider that this is a peculiar fetaure of that period, but it is not a weakness in itself. This trio is equal to the first ones. It is darker: each msterwork has features of its own.

      Does it really matter if how much of the instrument's range is used? Not to us, but apparently some snobs insist on having flamboyance for a work to be acceptable to them.

    • @SpaghettiToaster
      @SpaghettiToaster 6 років тому

      Well it can be an indicator of unidiomatic writing, although I think Schumann pulled it off very well here.

    • @metodoinstinto

      Nah, this trio is uninspired and tasteless. It's a piece that says nothing. Schumann's first trio was a little bit better, yes, but the other two are uninspired pieces of garbage. I love'em though, like I love everything Schumann has written (except that violin concerto).

    The first, yearning, theme of the first movement reminds me strongly of the corresponding theme of the first Violin sonata.

    Unlike the 1st Trio, the 2nd and 3rd are good all the way through.
