This Ride Series episode really shows budding jumpers what’s possible...THIS IS DOABLE STUFF guys and gals! Then the journey shifts gears with nuances and steeze, like Rich said, it really is a journey, so don’t rush it...enjoy it! Fa-Realz Rich Drew and Crew!!! Gracias 👊💚👨👩👦👦
It is really amazing that you can spot the nuance of the minor mistakes people do when things happen so quickly. I can only tell it from the slow motion. Not everyone can be a good rider, and not every good rider can make other people a better rider like you.

Good teacher maybe that's how I sound when I try to teach others lol . Keep up the good energy I wish I had someone tutoring me specifically the whole way .good job man.
There are a few of these steep hits in Slaughter Pen. Some are definitely smaller than this one, which would be good progression. I need to slow down and session more when I’m there again. Last time I just wanted to see everything, and only rode most of it once. Guess it’s time for a return trip.
HAHA!!! I still say, the large percentage of MTB riders are very new riders and they'd prefer to ride Bentonville over Whistler because it isn't as intimidating. Sure, you and I would rather hit Whistler, but were not in the majority percentage.
Glad my light hearted intentions came through on my original comment. I'm looking forward to riding Bentonville soon (14 hr drive) . Most of whistler is currently beyond my skillset.
THIS!!! Is what I've been looking for! The steeps give me the creeps (jumps that is), the local one I have is a steep roll into 30ft bowl then up and step up/jump out, what last got me is the roll out is a slow down grade. I last hit it too hard/fast went high and far but lost my self in air and over rotated the bike landing vertically front tire first then my head back butt bike on top of me..lol. any suggestions for bike body control in air GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks again, great channel!!!
You basically nose dived (where front wheel just lands first) and you flipped. When your jumping try to lean back more next time to prevent your bike from nose diving.
I hit that line on my second day out there on vacation in december. It was after riding all over Slaughter earlier in the day, so I was a little tired, it was starting to get dark and colder, and I'm still progressing into stuff of this size, so I definitely cased it, on purpose, kind of the way the guy did on his very first run right there but maybe just a little bit less so, maybe. But yeah. Cool line!
At 14:12 you talk about loading with feet and extending with arms. Straightening your arms. It seems like you’re pushing yourself backwards rather than opening up. A quick video on that portion would be awesome!!
Great Video and explaination! The only problem is that here I sit with a nice wooden tabletop outside during Thanksgiving and it just super wet and raining outside.... Thanks for the video! I'm pretty sure I've been tucking in my elbows during takeoff and now I can't wait to fix it.
Good job Rich your "how to's" are great, love this style of video. I find it scary to get my arms straight and lean back off the top of jumps, I always worry I'm going to flat back it like a porpoise, not sure how to get past that fear. Your how to's really help keep them coming.
Thats my problem when I go off jumps my arms aren’t completely straight and my torso I don think it matches the angle I think I clear jumps cause of speed or said on another way I don’t get to high and I tried to think to correct it but at the moment is hard, especially since I don’t have table tops available only doubles
Hey Rich, great vid.. Just watched it again... Q: I've gotten comfortable going up the lips without collapsing but don't seem to straighten my legs enough on takeoff. How could I get you to watch a 5 or 10sec clip and give me some pointers... Ps. I'm in South Africa otherwise I'd do a TRS clinic 😁
Hey Shane! It takes some time getting comfortable with the torso positioning. Most riders feel like they are going to flip over backwards and it's a bit unnerving. Maybe we can get out to South Africa someday!

Great video! Do you think getting bucked forward on jumps is mostly due to not preloading the rear enough with fast rebound or is it still mostly body position?
Could be a couple of things Adam: 1) coming in with too much speed and not getting your body opened up soon enough (the bike pushes back against you) 2) having your weight too far back and overloading the suspension.
@@richdrewtherideseries Thanks Rich! I think I'm too far back... I had a friend record me and my instinct is to get back like I'm descending but you're right it's all about being neutral over the pedals!
My problem was that I came up too early trying to do kind of bunnyhop on the transition but released too early before the lip. This led to a lift of the bike before end of lip and that is why my back wheel got some extra kick at the end so I landed Front wheel First.
Hi, one of the best videos, new suscriber! I sometimes have problems with my rear wheel its too up, i try to slow down the rebound of the rear shock, but probably is my position just before the jump? Any suggestions? Will be great a video with suspension settings for jumps By the way, can you check the weight of your Delano? Love that bike Thanks
Nice tipps and tricks, well taught, only downside was the bad position of the camera not showing the air time and body position during the "flight" at all.
Rich Great video. Quick question I was just at slaughter one this past weekend for the first time and it was awesome. I think is that I could not figure out where to access hammer down. Any info on that would be awesome. Thanks!
Thanks Redtop! The top of this trail is just east of NW A St. You can come down All American and turn left into Black Apple, then follow Ozone up to the top of this one. It's a blast!
Had a huge crash a few years ago and the way you break it down gives me hope I can get over the mental block I have when rolling up to jumps. Any suggestions for overcoming jumping PTSD? 13 bones including neck is a big hurdle.
Haha!! I love adding that into every video when I can. I will say this: Look at the majority of mtb riders as a percentage and they don't want anything to do with Whistler. They want mellow, beginner friendly trails like we have TONS of here in Bentonville.
Rich, you’re right on that. As fun as whistler looks, I’m not ready for most of those trails. Bentonville would be more helpful in building my confidence.
Hey men great videos can u make a video jumping using a fat bike I have a bad ass salsa bucksaw tricked out and I jump everything on it even though I'm 50 years old instill ripped out there im from Miami by the way. Great videos they had helped me so much in improving my skills!!
What do you mean when you say "open up"? Should you feel like your standing up and leaning back?!? Can you describe what we should be feeling like when "opening up". Love your video's by the way, they have been very helpful.
Great video as always! We plan on making a trip down from Missouri, is Hammer Down the name of the trail? This section was definitely not built last time we were there. Would really like to check this spot out!
Dude, I have a question. For jumps that has a long ramp before the lip. Where should the rider do the pre-loading. Love your videos btw. Thanks in advance
saw you "learnin" people at Erwin Sunday, so my son Hugh who was always sketchy over those table tops ...he was watching you guys (not listening we will pay for that) over your progressive jump clinnic and he just kept sessioning and sessioning ...anyway, next time father/son sign up!

Do you also have to go a little bit backwards with your body (slight manual impuls) once the front wheel leaves the lip and then afterwars when the back wheel leaves the lip go up with your body?
Hi Rich, i really like your content. I am from Austria and since in Schladming there is a new Jumpline, i am really keen to jump the huge ones too. I would consider myself a decent jumper, but honestly there are a view jumps on that line that scare the sh..t out of me since having a bad left hand from an incident back in 2014. However, i am comfortable as long as i can bring my body back from compressing sequence to stand the stand up or stand tall moment. For those jumps its fine. But there are a view jumps that are so fast and steep there, that i watch people jumping it in a crouched body position and i dont mean that they are scrubbing it, its more like the compression is so hard, that when leaving the lip, the shocks are still hard compressed and not on the way to open up again.....hope that makes sense. But long story short question....do you also take jumps sometimes without having the legs extended when leaving the lips...caused by too much force in the compression? I added a video, at 00:46 and 00:54 you see what i described....crouched position when leaving the lip, but is it just bad technique or sometimes inevitable? An answer would be super cool. thx and BR Martin ua-cam.com/video/M8Tq62m99-g/v-deo.html
Richie, How do you stay straight in flight, without leaning to one side or the other on takeoff? Do you squeeze your legs together on the saddle or some other trick?
Awesome vid.. Some help pls... I tend to squat down and preload but think I'm bending my legs too much and then when I hit the transition as I push in I tend to not be able to hold it (almost straighten legs) to the top of the lip, I just bend my legs and suck it up.. Any advice.. (I practice on a kicker alot as it's all I have handy) thx dude
Hey Shane! Try coming in slower and see if you can get the timing down. You need to compress as you come into the takeoff and then open up with the bike as you come off.
Rich Drew haha I was mostly giving you 💩 but I can’t figure it out either! I’ve got the scrub down and a Twitch style whip but bringing back a moto whip is still beyond me. Not sure who would be a good tutor...I see most guys landing with their front wheel straight but that back wheel still way out sideways

Nice tipps and tricks, well taught, only downside was the bad position of the camera not showing the air time and body position during the "flight" at all.
Reminds me of the big hip on World Cup at Angel Fire 😀
I thought his shirt looked familiar! Represent SATX! 🤙🏽
Oh yeah! Manny is hardcore SATX!
I suck at landing and probably my body position in the air I would love to find a video on how to control your bike in the air
Hey there! It’s a common problem and we will make that one soon
That step up is so much steeper in person.
It’s pretty darn steep! I didn’t realize it until I sat on the edge of it
I like this much!
Awesome!
Had a huge crash a few years ago and the way you break it down gives me hope I can get over the mental block I have when rolling up to jumps. Any suggestions for overcoming jumping PTSD? 13 bones including neck is a big hurdle.
Practice bunnyhops, then ride a lot of little jumps. Once you get really comfortable, you’ll find it’s not that bad and work your way up.
Wish I had watched this video before I went last week. Rode Hammer Down three times and skipped that last step up each time 😂
“..bentonville mountain bike capital “
Whistler : “ hold my beer”
It's brand new, and I think Flozone is the official name now. If you've ridden Ozone, it starts at the exact same spot. Check it out on Trailforks.
@@chrism6878 Thanks 👍
Thanks Craig! I think this one is called “Hammer Down.” It’s right in the middle of Ozone. I’ll have a video that highlights this trail coming soon
Haha, "learnin!" It was a fun group, you should've swung by and said hi. Next event there is Sep 12/13, I'd love to see you fellers!

Rich Drew wow this is great! Thanks for sharing!
I would like to meet so good teacher in my country.
Hey there! Where are you from?
@@richdrewtherideseries I'm from Poland.
How about a video on how to bring your whips back? Might need a guest host 😜
Hey Ryan! I really might need a guest host...I'm not too good at bringing them back. Do you have this guest host in mind??
Rich Drew haha I was mostly giving you 💩 but I can’t figure it out either! I’ve got the scrub down and a Twitch style whip but bringing back a moto whip is still beyond me. Not sure who would be a good tutor...I see most guys landing with their front wheel straight but that back wheel still way out sideways
It looks like he is absorbing or scrubbing the lift on his take off with the bent arms right?
You got it Anthony! I'm still working with Manny on getting those arms a bit straighter and getting more lift.
Rich, what brand of helmet are you rocking?
