That was fantastic - top bloke! If could afford to get a bike fit with him I’d be signing up right now, but as it is these pearls of wisdom are much appreciated - thanks Katie.
So, I’ve had two bike fits, or three if you count one that came with another new bike. The positions were all more or less identical. The pressures on saddle pressure mapping were even and low. The recommended saddle last time was the one I went in with. And I still get saddle sore. And yes I have tried numerous saddles before the latest saddle fit. I’ve also tried numerous brands of shorts and bibs / non-bibs. And still the discomfort persists. But I am a lot poorer. And someone in the bike industry is a lot richer. Free advice gratefully accepted…..
I have 3 bikes and I used to ride 177.5. I purchased a Ultegra group and they came with 175, then I purchased a carbon road bike and it came with 172.5. Being mechanic I adjusted the saddle and then stem length to match my old race bike and them got the handlebars right I cannot tell them apart. I ended up getting rid of the 177.5 when I got a pair of175s for free.
Thans as always. Keep bike fit numbers and ASK HOW THESE ARE MEASURED! I was forever messing up saddle height after packing my bike for travel because I didn't know where the measurements began...also started marking saddle/cleats/handlebar positions...😂
Setback seat post. You made a comment in a video recently about the fad in setback seat posts. I have one on my bike, I’ve had a professional bike fit that didn’t change anything. I don’t actually think I can install a straight seat post as I need the saddle positioned so far back. So can you ask Phil why is that. What component of the human body means the saddle has to be that far back on my bike compared to Bottom bracket position? Yet you have a straight seat post? If there is a reason at all?
awesome and very down-to-earth! 👍👍👍 love the chaotic hair of philbert that is how my hair looks every day. and i won't change it 😆 Einstein also had chaotic hair Merry Christmas Katie! 🥰🥰🥰
Great vid, Katie. If you’re looking at things to add to your 2025 calendar, consider coming to the Cayman Islands during May for our ‘May Classics’. Races every weekend throughout May (TT - longer road race - Crit). We’ve got a great cycling community and the island speaks for itself!
Katie, please ask Phil about how to fix leg length issue when it's a cm. I use SPD pedals/cleats. I got a kit from "Form" to get 6mm shims between shoes and cleats but it's still not perfect.
@@davegearing2707 Thanks mate. I tried that by moving the right cleat 3mm forward. Before I knew about my leg length issue, I might have developed a habit of tilting my bike on the left (my right leg is shorter) and it seems, that habit is still there :).
@@HarishChouhan depending on your shoe you may be able to add an old insole for the shorter leg to get closer to an even stance. I use flats due to too many knee issues and an old insole to compensate for what was done during a knee operation years ago (I do it for most of my foot are). That 2mm makes a big difference in less knee pain, much more even pedal stroke and a more even walking/hiking gait.
@@chriscohlmeyer4735 that's a good suggestion. I am currently using a custom insole (flat feet/arthritis in ankles) but in both shoes. I'll check if removing one makes any improvement. Thanks mate.
I feel seen 👀 🤣 - got a bike fit and new shoes a couple of days before a 24-hour, and slammed my bars the week before Manchester 100 🤣. TBF I kinda knew I'd be OK, so got away with it all. Have to agree though, make your changes at the start of your training - months before whatever events you're aiming at.
As someone gaining in wisdom and grey hair, and approaching retirement age in a very, very sexy and disreputable way, I wholeheartedly agree with "Sometimes we have to say goodbye to the Matterhorn and hello to the Cotswolds". Joy lies in that
I always tell new cyclists that if you didn't get a bike fit, then the bike doesn't fit. A bike never comes out of the box, or the LBS, as the correct fit.
You know that when you see a video come up, that you aren't interested in... you don't have to click on it. I do hear there are a few other videos on UA-cam to watch. It was a rumour so not sure how true it is though...
Always appreciate them top tips from Phil … ta very much! I started having saddle sores this year after very long rides so trying some fit adjustments with the bike on the trainer is a good idea. 🚴♂️⛰️🐑😄
This is great advice, succinct and helpful.

Distilled down to earth wisdom - brilliant. Thanks Katie/Phil.
Looking forward to getting Phil's Bike Fit book for Christmas!

He meant that set back seat posts aren't great if you need to be further forward. If you are comfy with yours all good :)
Is it necessary to get a bikefit done if i'm sticking to flat pedals? Or is eyeballing it enough for that

Thanks - have a great Christmas too :)
Got two new bikes but changed cleats no more cold numb feet but took a year to get comfortable seat and stem position . should of got a bike fit .

Shift the cleats backwards/forwards so they compensate for the length difference, I do that, and have cm difference, but on spd-sl setup

what ETT for 170 height ?
If you want to copy a pro, copy one who doesn't crash 10 times per year. Get a bike that fits like Indurain.
The real fit is in your body. Either you have physiologic/morphologyc conditions or you don't.
#not another bikefit youtube vid
Yeah, i think there's ample now thank you
Oversaturated is an understatement , i think it's always good clickbait is my guess
