I made a Dry Bag from an old Banner (easy recycling project)

  • My 4 week Scandinavia Vacation is coming to an end and here is the last, simplest and probably most underestimated project I made for this trip. A dry bag that I made from an old banner. I don't have a lot of sewing experience but still this was simple to make in a day. Its super useful to have a bag that is not super valuable and that can be used for collecting firewood, storing laundry or that keeps your towels dry on a paddle trip. enjoy the video!

    Laura, On a recent project I used HH-66 vinyl cement. It creates a permanent, waterproof seal. Might look into it. It would let you make a bag that will never leak as with sewed seams. Let glue dry. :)

    • @photomattmills
      @photomattmills 2 роки тому +5

      Barge glue (in the US) or contact cement with a strip of vinyl would also work; just make your own seam tapes with the same material and glue them over the sewn seams.

    I've used old rain coats I've picked up at Goodwill/ used clothing store to make all different sizes. Colors makes it easy to remember what is in ea bag. I've also made rain bags for my dogs packs which works wonderful for my Rottweiler who can't pass a water source without going in no matter the season.
    Laura, I'm surprised u haven't made a jig/ arm for ur sewing machine to sit on top so u can run the material under. It makes sewing circles/ round a breeze u don't have to fight all the material on top

    Heh, I just finished making a dry bag out of some vinyl coated fabric a week or so ago. I don't have access to a sewing machine (or the skills to use it), but vinyl cement worked great for my no-stitch seams.

    VERY well done, and great storytelling as always.
    Next time, you might want to consider doing all the straps (and the velcro closure) when the panel is •flat•, then sew the cylinder seam and lastly sew the bottom in. Sewing things onto the panels of a stiff bag as the last process is a bit of a stuggle (as I'm sure you found out).

      I have to agree that I was a little surprised to see a round bottom bag made of such material qualified as an easy project but I guess I really depends on the type of Machin you own.
      Hers seems to have the fabric pulled from over with the walking foot and simultaneously from underneath which makes it less Tricky.
      I used to do 8 sided bases on a lot off bag before I managed to have the right skills and tool to perform round one.
      It look nice and can bring a touch of modernity on some bags
