  • Capt. Brad Goodrich shows us this advanced circle hook mackerel-rigging technique. The flat-line swimming mackerel has incredible authentic action and can be deployed anywhere in the spread, but performs best in the flat line position. When all they want is that mackerel, this rig will give it to them.

Hey Brad, Dennis here. Remember when my wife Sue worked for your dad in Ft. Myers? I enjoy your vids as it brings back many memories of what I did as a young man. Great to see you after all these years. You've grown up very nicely.

What is the size of the circle hook and what pound line do you use with it?

Are these only good for marlin or would big snapper/grouper eat this if you pitch it around a rig or wreck. I assume a grouper would eat this as they normally can't catch a mackerel might be a good grouper snack. Or would a big king mackerel or a wahoo eat this?

Exlnt how to video . What speed do you pull them at and typically how long do they last b4 they wash out. Looks like a good rigged bait for our New Zealand stripe marlin

I pull my macs that are similarly rigged at 7 to 9kts and they last all day. If you take care of them you can fish them for a second day or until they get hammered by a Marlin or Big Hoo

May I ask why you pull the circle hook through the meat? It's been my experience that the circle hook be tied to the bait to allow full exercise of the bait. Be it a bonita or mackerel. Especially with circle hooks. I'm simply challenging your technique. The bait is allowed to swim more freely if not attached to the circle hook. The marlin will have no problem biting the hook if it's tied to the head of the bait. But awesome tutorial. I wish you were around and you could have saved me a longer learning curve.
