      Oh, by the way, if its helpful...I have added a Reese Type square tubing hitch to the lower portion of my tractor logging winch. Just makes it out, drilled four corner holes, zip wheeled out the plate section. Welded in the receiver tubing flush with the plate with a stabilizer brace further in. Simple, fast, inexpensive. Works great. Doesn't interfere with log winch loads. Can haul a trailer any time. Might be useful if you are in the woods getting a load for your trailer, but need the bigger winch to get out a stubborn one😊

      @@OakMountainAcotts We are also dealing with strange weather. We went back into the red pine planation 2 weeks ago after getting a bit of snow cover with the intent of continuing the thinning operation. However the snow melted and we decided to wait for more snow as their is a risk of ''maladie du rond'' attacking the plantation when working without a snow cover. The snow prevents spores from infecting the stumps. It is always like playing Russian Roulette....have to wait for some snow and hope you don't get a major dump that will prevent operations. So in the mean time, we are cleaning up another area. We could work every day and still have work to do for the rest of our lives on that 100 acres. Have fun, be safe

    • @OakMountainAcotts
      @OakMountainAcotts  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the feedback! I haven't had any issues with insects on the stumps left over. I normally would cut the stumps on a bit of an angle after I fell the tree to help water run off of them. This is supposed to help minimize bacteria and fungus growth that might attack the stem that you leave behind. I love these growths; they yield so much firewood when you clean them up and leave the best!

      @Oak Mountain Acotts A building sure helps keep things up and running better that's for sure. I use to never pay much attention to fuel additives but after fuel issues this summer I have started running additives both gas and diesel. Bad fuel can b a real pain.

  • @FromSteelToWood
    @FromSteelToWood 2 роки тому

    Fuel price here went to 2.60$... I still prefer using a diesel engine that is way more efficient than an old gasoline engine. I started logging a bit last Sunday. I was actually clearing the trails from the fallen trees. I should start logging for real before the end of the year. I prefer logging on frozen ground. That big puddle of water you get isn't going to freeze enough to safely run over it during winter... Is there any way you can have this water drain to a lower point? Would that be a very long trench to do? Or might you build a trail on a higher spot? I would be afraid to get water seeping into the front axle of that nice Kubota tractor... Thanks!

    • @OakMountainAcotts
      @OakMountainAcotts  2 роки тому

      That water should drain by itself. That is the natural collection point after big rains. I am putting a road in above it though, stay tuned!

    hI Jason good to see you back on again i going to write you earlier this year when you bought the kubota1100.[great machine] ive had alot of time on these machines not logging but spraying weeds but i have probably run the machine in more situations than you can think i just thought i could give you a few tips with the machine and the tracks your best friend and best tool to always carry with you is a track tensioner and a 9/16 s inch wrench i hope you never have to use it but if you throw a track they are all you need plus a bottle jack. The tensioner is cheap it just measures the tension on the tracks and the wrench is probably with the other5 that everyone loses[ along with the 1/2 inch ones ] lol also the kubota 1100 will pull your Kranman no problem with the tracks on it they pull really well. Ive used the 1100 for 5 years 5 days aweek 8 hours aday with a 1076 pound of chemicals in the back up hills on side hills[ thats where you could throw a track on the side hills] ive pullled a 550 ford flat deck with a 22 foot trailer that the front wheel caught a plowed snowburm that a grader left and wouldt let the truck come up out of the ditch and the kubota was on a packed snow covered road and pulled the truck out no problem. i have a hydraulic plow on the front of the 1100 that i use in the winter to plow approaches that the trucks cant plow because if they go to far on the approach they get stuck but with the 1100 if i cant backup i just drive it into the ditch and drive out front wards. just thought if you needed some info or tips on the 1100 just let me know cause ive probably been through it. Really enjoy your site and i have alot more stories on the machine they are slow but your not out to win a race. TC bud will be watching the rest of your posts MERRY XMAS to you and your family

    • @OakMountainAcotts
      @OakMountainAcotts  2 роки тому

      Excellent message. I really like getting feedback and help like this. I haven't put the jack and wrenches on the machine yet but I know I have to do it. Probably just a matter of time before I get caught! I wasn't impressed with the speed of the unit when I first got it but I am slowly realizing this thing is more of a tractor than a side by side! Tough as nails and I think it will last forever. So, I'm going to use it in the Winter to do a little forestry and go from there. What type of a plow system did you buy for your machine and I assume you are using it with the tracks on?

    • @shanetaylor-gl4mx
      @shanetaylor-gl4mx 2 роки тому

      @@OakMountainAcotts morning Jason i am retired now so i dont use the 1100 any more i sure miss that machine but we bought the plow right from the kubota dealer they put an extra hydraulic tank on the machine for the plow but with the extra tank we could use anything that was hydraulic , post pounder ,saw anything that you needed that was hydraulic the tank was on the back but the hoses were run to the front above the frame the plow was powered up and down and left to right it was way better than other plows because it had down preasure it would lift the kubota off the ground but with the tracks on it wouldnt lift it high enough because the throw on the cylinder was to short with the tires on you could change both front tiresi ran a 4000 pound winch on it with tracks that i could mount to a reciever front or back but with the plow on i could not have the winch on the front [ no room ] the tensioner for the tracks i sure was less than 20 bucks i think the newer kubotas come with a different system now for mounting impliments

    • @shanetaylor-gl4mx
      @shanetaylor-gl4mx 2 роки тому

      did you get the mounting instructions for mounting and removing the tracks they should give you all the directions on how to use the tensioner and i think its 11 pounds to get the right tension i just used a 20 inch by 1 inch by 1/4 inch thick of flat bar to measure the deflection

    • @OakMountainAcotts
      @OakMountainAcotts  2 роки тому

      That sounds amazing. My machine would require a k connect system to be added. It would then handle a blower, plow or sweeper. The k connect and blower cost is $15k! I need to save my Pennies for that!

    • @OakMountainAcotts
      @OakMountainAcotts  2 роки тому

      I have the instructions, just need to order the tensioner. I went all over the tracks when we put them on a couple weeks ago… I didn’t check the tension though!
