  • This quick video documents the process of changing the engine oil on my Ducati 848 EVO.
Changing the oil on your Ducati 848 should be done at least once per year (or every 12,000 km or 7500 miles). The overall process is very simple and can be completed in less than one hour.
    Material needed:
    - Engine Oil (recommended viscosity for most climates is SAE 15W-50)
    - Oil Filter (HIFLO FILTRO HF153 or K&N part # KN-153)
    - New crush washer for the drain bolt
    - Paper towels or shop towels
    - Gloves (optional)
    Tools needed:
    - 5mm Internal (Allen) wrench to remove drain bolt
    - Channellock 209 - 9" oil filter pliers wrench (or equivalent tool)
    - Oil Drain Pan
    - Funnel (optional)
    - Measuring cup (optional)
I am not inspecting/cleaning/changing the gauze filter in this video since I normally do this every 2nd oil change. However, if you have not done it before, it might be a good time to consider inspecting this filter now.
    Good luck!

I’ll have one done shortly. I am replacing my radiator hoses and will document the process of flushing and replacing the coolant! Thx for watching!

    Hello,
I want to do this to my bike also, also to clean the catch filter and was wondering if the oil cooler needs draining, to me its geometry indicates that it may catch old oil on its bottom, have you ever attempted this?
    Thank you.

Hi - If you are talking about the gauze filter / oil filter screen, I normally do this every 2nd oil change.
With respect to oil cooler; I normally change the oil more often than recommended by Ducati, so I am not too concern if there is a bit of residual oil in the oil cooler. I assume (perhaps wrongly) that the old oil will mix with the new one and circulate out, hence refreshing the oil.

Thank you for this. My bike has been dormant for almost a year. Is it still oK to run the bike first?
I'm scared the old oil will clog the motor

Hello Mina - Apologies for the delay. If you have enough oil, it won't be an issue to let it run for a few minutes to warm it up and simplify the oil flush. The oil will certainly be degraded a bit but I wouldn't be worried if it's been a year or so.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to post a comment.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
      Best Regards,
      /Marco

Can you put throttle spacers on this bike. Somebody please lol

I dont believe you can, as the throttle spacers I think you're talking about is for bikes with electronic throttles and this does not.
