I agree as well as many of us simracers in your channel. Its like cheating when not driving from cockpit. We are simracers guys. I respect those who are taking the challenge to drive realistic scenarious in every way you can.
I’ve been using cockpit cam for about half a year now. Halo part being removed is a must cause I have 1 screen and can’t see anything in front of me with it. It started as just for realism around Miami thing I liked it and hated myself for it because of the increased difficulty. I race with cockpit cam and 0 hud on and I’m on controller. Knowing when people are diving down the inside or sitting in a blind spot is definitely the hardest part but it’s a lot more fun than with a hud and a different cam
You should turn the head swivel option on so that when you turn your eyes look towards the apex. You can adjust the sensitivity too to make sure the swivel isn't too aggressive.
I started doing this after your first Cockpit camera video, and I haven't gone back. I even use the same view on every other teaching game on Xbox as well. I would suggest you move your FOV closer still, and if you find your view of the road ahead a bit crunched, raise your vertical offset to compensate. The rain you should move it forward is because of where your hands are. My screen is only about a foot behind my wheel base, so taking that in consideration, you should not be able to see your steering wheel, which is in your hands, on the screen as well, which is a foot further back. It's like driving from the back seat of a car. Your arms aren't that long. Anyway, just an idea that works for me and increases my submersion into the race. Try it out. You might like it. For the record mine is fully forward, with a slight vertical offset to allow me to see more of the road and less of the virtual steering wheel.
I've used cockpit cam always, and feel like it has actually made me a safer driver due to the lack of visibility, since I would shy away from any move where I'm not 100% confident I've got enough space to pull it off.
I made the permanent switch in F12017 and won't go back. Once you get over the mental hurdle of experience > fastest possible time, It just makes the game so much more immersive. I personally like the halo on, I find it forces you to look ahead. I set up my wheel to have dedicated look left/right, and adjust the cam so my SF1000 looks like it is in the car on screen. I turn steering animation off because of this and rely on my wheel for everything but ERS (Xbox compatibility issue) so I turn telemetry on and place it over the game wheel so that I just have to peer over the wheel to see my 🔋%. That could also theoretically solve your telemetry problem for streaming. Never made sense to me that cockpit cam wasn't enforced in ESports. The game should be played at the maximum difficulty at the highest level of play, no?
BTW JD, you actually do have access to the hud in cockpit mode. You just have to activate the option. It's somewhere in either the OSD or video options.
Ya I started out sims a year ago, wanted to make it feel as real as I could so started using cockpit cam a few months back, so much fun and I've found my times better
I always use cockpit Camera in the F1 games. I also do career mode videos in Cockpit Camera. Playing in the cockpit cam feels much more immersive than the TPod camera. Just started in UA-cam with cockpit camera videos and looking forward to some great gameplays ahead.
I agree the cockpit view should be the eSport view. And it should be just like the assists in lobby settings, the view should be an option to be open or close.
Bout time you joined us Cockpit view guys. Never have used anything other than Cockpit, it's honestly the best way to play, Everything else feels like a replay or watching tv to me.
I absolutely love cockpit cam. I used to exclusively use it. But I feel like online, and even just in general, there’s always a little bit of time I can find outside of cockpit view compared to being in it. I feel like it’s just because it’s easier to see your surroundings and see in front of you a bit but it really is much more fun in cockpit view. I wish there was an online mode that forced everyone into this view.
If you’re going to use cockpit view, I definitely recommend turning down the camera shake, camera movement, and look to apex. I have them set to 1/1/0 and it makes the car feel less floaty.
I always used cockpit view because with some setup, it feels like i'm in the car. I can see why people use the television camera, especially in esports. So, should they force it? i think yes, because it is a skill to have an overview with a more limited field of view. You can do unexpected overtakes, also there's a higher margin for error which would bring more action. I would love it, but i don't think they'll do it - its been to long with no camera restrictions.
i started driving in that camera in F1 21 already, because it also feels like i have more control over the steering in the slow corners. probably just my imagination, but it seems like i can steer in a little bit more xD
Used TV-pod on my first F1 game in 2020. Changed to Cockpit on F1 2021 and I can't even get back to T-pod again because T-Pod feels super understeery. This is something I noticed right away when I changed to cockpit cam is that the car turns so much better. People say it's because of the perspective but that never made much sense to me. All camera angles make the car feel like it has a huge understeer /unresponsivness where Cockpit just turns where I want it to turn.
Switched to cockpit cam a while ago and i dont know why but i even became a bit faster and cleaner in my races. My main argument to use cockpit cam over TV Pod is the gain of fun
I think that it was on F1 2010 that you HAD to use the cockpit cam for the hardest in career mode. It's again one of those features where i think *why was it removed*
Although F1 game doesn't interest me and I don't play it, I have positive experience using cockpit cam in AC and AMS2. It feels like I can exploit setup much more and make corrections mid corner when a car is on the edge of grip. Outside cam makes it seem your car is always understeering. Kinda as if you are rolling some wooden board on a perfectly flat surface lol!
Your video on what you'd like to see in F1 23.. I'd like to see the ability to restrict camera settings (not FOV specific, but camera type). I had committed to making the switch for this game for my own sake, but after about 2 months I went back to TV pod and was legitimately half a second or so faster a lap just due to having that better visibility. It's unfortunate that cockpit cam just hampers you too much on spacial awareness and visibility of the track. I would league race in a league that had it mandatory.
Cockpit view is the way to go. Realism, as the driver eye cams have now proved. With an ultrawide monitor, low eye - screen distance and correct FOV, the mirrors are visible and useful. Other views should count as an assist.
The problem with the cockpit cam in this came is that unless you're running on an ultrawide monitor, or with some unrealistically high FoV setting, the visibility just doesn't compare to what a real driver would have, you have basically zero peripheral vision. I drive sims in cockpit view all the time but in a single 16:9 monitor, the only mitigation to be able to fight properly is to use a virtual mirror, or just press the button to look to the sides all the time (in ACC, iRacing and other sims). Which is an option, but you wouldn't be pressing buttons just to check your mirrors or windows in real life either. So yeah, other than a big wide monitor or VR those are inherent issues of the cockpit cam for me, that in the case of F1 games, are sort of solved by the tv cam. In sims, when possible, I actually prefer to use dashboard cam + virtual mirror, because in terms of immersion, seeing both my simracing wheel and the virtual steering wheel on the screen doesn't make sense.
Most sims have an option to remove the virtual wheel so people often set the screen to match their actual wheel position. Cool effect if you haven't done it before, but yeah, you need to be sitting rather close to a large monitor to have anywhere near a usable correct FOV
This is the only I’ve ever driven the F1 games, granted a little bit wider and with apex looking (on a 48 or 50 inch tv at 24 inches from my eyes). I also try to reduce the screen hud aids most of the time (but very hard as the F1 engineers are too slow - I once lost a race because of a DT penalty during a SC and the engineer told me just as I passed the pit entry that I had to serve that).
I love cockpit cam but i wish there was also an option to turn the halo completly off. I know its part of the car but without it, it just feels much nicer to drive
Personally, I would only use cockpit camera in any F1 game made by codemasters if they drastically improved the force feedback. I drive assetto corsa only in VR and I use cockpit camera, it is simply lovely, you feel everything so you can look where you want to go rather then looking at the car in case you need to make adjustments.
Cockpit cam might have it's challenges but I definitely think the immersion and satisfaction from using it cannot be compared! I started using cockpit cam around 3 months ago and haven't looked back since. It's definitely possible to set competitive times with this view. For visibility I feel turning on the virtual rear view mirror really helps. Also, the cockpit camera settings in this video are quite similar to mine and I think it works better than the default cockpit view. I encourage those who haven't tried it to play around with it and find something that works for them. What works for me is reducing FOV, increasing horizontal offset (so the camera moves further in front) setting the vertical offset higher, and lowering the angle which gives you the best view of the track
I drive all my league races in cockpit and if you get used to you start to see what happens even of the view is a bit blocked it your pretty much as fast or even faster than with tv pod.
I genuinely find cockpit view easier, for some reason i always get the wrong perception of speed into a corner on TV Pod and end up understeering into them.
Tbh i think they should compulsory enable cockpit view camera for f1 eSports series or any other e-series out there though viewers perspective will be normal. With camera angle current players use isn't fun bcz it's easy to predict and not much of competition in players. The advantage that angle provides is huge
Let people play how they want. If vision is a problem for you play a sim with VR, or triples, or radar. Or use a spotter. All 3 things offer improved vision.
I personally went for the “real as I can get” and I wanted a challenge.. I felt when playing in TVP, it just wasn’t as fun.. I could just flat out certain areas I wouldn’t in cockpit due to I couldn’t see it.. so really it is a dual-edged sword for me. If more raced this way.. it would be much better tho.
vr is next level immersion but be warned vr in the f1 22 game is probably the most blurry compared to other sims but i dont let that bring me down as i use vr mostly for f1 22 anyways. ps: its hard to drive having a big screen on your face after a while would highly suggest triples as your alternative as you can run higher graphics, clearer resolution and less stress on your pc... but you also miss out on being in a virtual car.
The Pros & Cons of Using the Cockpit Camera 1. Makes racing a bit more intense 2. Makes you feel more connected to the car 3. Makes you see the track a little bit better 4. Makes the sense of speed better 5. Gives you the competitive edge Cons 1. You could hardly see the track 2. You never know when you'll crash into your opponent when you get next to them 3. Sometimes, it can make racing a little bit too intense. In fact, it can get so intense that the race will be hard for you to win. 4. Your visibility is severely impacted 5. Knowing when people are diving down the inside or sitting in a blind spot is definitely the hardest part but it’s a lot more fun than with a hud and a different cam
VR is the only serious view to use in my opinion.
Tip: Turn on motion blur to simulate a more 'sense of speed'. Helmet mode 'on' (volume option) is great too for a change.
I dont find the option. I know it was there in f1 2021
One thing to note - the more tele lens you go - the slower it will feel. If you go more fish eye ( bigger FOV) it's perceived a lot faster.
I'm delighted you've gone to the cockpit pov, i only ever played from cockpit every other view felt wrong to me!
definitely emotion speaking when you said "I'm f**king done with this game man" hahaha
You should turn the head swivel option on so that when you turn your eyes look towards the apex. You can adjust the sensitivity too to make sure the swivel isn't too aggressive.
I don't recommend this as when you have this setting on you miss the small movements of the car and so it's harder to catch oversteer.
the goxley guy was actually a really decent driver because you could see they werent using assists either by tiny lockups or the same quality exits
I’m so much slower in cockpit cam but I love the immersion from it
Ya I started out sims a year ago, wanted to make it feel as real as I could so started using cockpit cam a few months back, so much fun and I've found my times better
I always use cockpit Camera in the F1 games. I also do career mode videos in Cockpit Camera. Playing in the cockpit cam feels much more immersive than the TPod camera. Just started in UA-cam with cockpit camera videos and looking forward to some great gameplays ahead.
Use code 'Black' for 10% off a 1-to-1 session with me at coachlimitless.com/ until 2023!
Pls what are these settings
I agree the cockpit view should be the eSport view. And it should be just like the assists in lobby settings, the view should be an option to be open or close.
Bout time you joined us Cockpit view guys. Never have used anything other than Cockpit, it's honestly the best way to play, Everything else feels like a replay or watching tv to me.
I´ve used this a lot in career modes. It is a lot of fun
finally, it was about time :D
Love seeing a happy limitless
Top tip for turn on motion blur it helps Sense of speed
What they need to add is full triple screen support.
I play in a Norwegian league where one of the tiers is no assist/cockpit cam only which makes it alot more fun for sure
Would love the cockpit view hope they can add the rpm meter in the steering wheel
Yes, rpm meter is the thing that is missing on wheel indeed. Really important while you start a race with manual start option.
i started driving in that camera in F1 21 already, because it also feels like i have more control over the steering in the slow corners. probably just my imagination, but it seems like i can steer in a little bit more xD
Good to see more people using it in F1 22👌🏽
Switched to cockpit cam a while ago and i dont know why but i even became a bit faster and cleaner in my races. My main argument to use cockpit cam over TV Pod is the gain of fun
I think that it was on F1 2010 that you HAD to use the cockpit cam for the hardest in career mode. It's again one of those features where i think *why was it removed*
Always cracks me up people spend 1000's on Sim equipment for immersion but proceed to use a bumper or hood cam 🙈
If more people should use cookpit cam, they need to fix it so you can see the mirrors without looking to either left or right. That is a must
i use cockpit mode exclusively, it does make the racing a bit more fun for sure.
Have litterly used cockpit cam the last 2 season now can just say so much more fuuun big ups!!
I would league race in a league that had it mandatory.
was using cockpit cam ever since F1 2012 .. Immersion is key
Would it be possible too show ur cockpit settings
Using that too for a couple of months and I much prefer it from any other.
I actually drive better using this and I can feel the car better.
As a player that uses cockpit camera i approve this video
Cockpit view is the way to go. Realism, as the driver eye cams have now proved. With an ultrawide monitor, low eye - screen distance and correct FOV, the mirrors are visible and useful.
Other views should count as an assist.
You need three screens, that is so nice to drive!
I use the alt nose option, but I put it on a huge OLED and it’s like the front end of my car is life size
@@RhodokTribesman That's what I mean by dashboard cam. Like in assetto, the cam that only shows the car instruments and not the wheel
I'm a noob and always use cockpit cam even though the pros don't. Way more immersive which is why I bought the game. Immersion.
Yep, yep. I always go cockpit cam, so much more fun
Hey, take out the OSD and you will have much more fun! I was using cockpit and also tried out that and the feeling is much more better
I only drive in cockpit cam, ever since i got my first F1 game, i like being immersed, and yes i play with the halo on..
Hi JD, for what regards the problem of the acceleration/brake and ers bar there is an option to put it in the cockpit camera too
I love cockpit cam but i wish there was also an option to turn the halo completly off. I know its part of the car but without it, it just feels much nicer to drive
I have been using cockpit mode I am slower but wow way more fun it’s what Imagine F1 to be
Personally, I would only use cockpit camera in any F1 game made by codemasters if they drastically improved the force feedback.
I love the cockpit mode, never understood how people race competitively with above car, or trailing views....
I approve this video for the best UA-camr ever
The Pros & Cons of Using the Cockpit Camera
1. Makes racing a bit more intense
2. Makes you feel more connected to the car
3. Makes you see the track a little bit better
4. Makes the sense of speed better
5. Gives you the competitive edge
Cons
1. You could hardly see the track
2. You never know when you'll crash into your opponent when you get next to them
3. Sometimes, it can make racing a little bit too intense. In fact, it can get so intense that the race will be hard for you to win.
4. Your visibility is severely impacted
5. The Chase Cam is far better for you if you're a beginner
Think adjusting the default fov/angle to be more immersive and promoting it in trailers 50/50 with TV pod would be good first step, refine ffb and sense of speed a lil and it would be a winner 🙂👍❤️
dont think i have ever used another camera view than cockpit cam its the best for emersion
I'd also turn off 'look to apex'. Makes you a bit more accurate as well 👍🏽
personally anything other than cockpit gives me an edge that I dont appreciate as much as I used to. so i stick to cockpit with every game and car
i think there should be lobby locked by view to ensure all drivers in equal condition's.
This is a great idea!
