I only live 5 mins away up the hill and I went to the University of Sheffield and I never went on the lift - always regretted it. Glad you can see the Wednesday ground!
Thanks for bringing back some happy memories of my time at Sheffield Uni, nearly 40 years ago. And good to see the paternoster's still going: a great bit of engineering.
When I used to fix equipment at Sheffield university, I used to have to go and get keys from the 8th floor in the arts tower so I always went in the paternoster lift. I also used to go to the top floor regularly just for the view but sometimes would stay in to come back down. The arts tower is 18 floors and a basement where there used to be a canteen and toilets. Haven’t been in the arts tower for about 8 years but towards the end all floors were closed off with doors requiring a pass other than the lift lobbies.
It's poured with rain every day since July 2023 began!10 months of it now.I think that the Eifel Tower in Paris is the highest building I've been in.Although i did go up the Latin America Tower in Mexico City which is 42 storeys less than the Efiel Tower but Mexico City is alread at about 2200 metres above sea level!
@@timawells Some are more popular than others. Something like the Arts Tower video may get more views over time if it gets found by lift enthusiasts or building enthusiasts. I don't have as many subscribers as you so it probably won't get as many views in the first few days as yours will.
@@timawells I Think they're basically safe, and a good solution for uni buildings where you get 8 or so rush hours per day as thousnds of students need to get from room to room for the next lecture... It's just the editing at that bit made me chuckle. Enjoyed the vid, didn't know there was one of those in Shef. There used to be one in the claremont tower at newcastle uni but for all I know its been taken out now.
@@joinedupjon I love the fact that the H&S people must cringe. I would use them rather than traditional lifts. I think 2 in a lift is enough, they say no more than 12.
People have been hurt (and even killed) on paternoster lifts, which is why they are not allowed to build new ones. This one has been retrofitted with some modern safety facilities, but of course, common sense plays a huge part. I'm not aware of any significant injuries/fatalities regarding this particular one.
Mark discussed this with security in the past, they say they get a lot of tourists. I saw signs around the arts tour welcoming tourists. I am sure anyone being disruptive would get removed very quickly.

I love it that its escaped Elf and safety.

There used to be one at The University of Newcastle too .. sadly, it's long gone
I hate draconian H&S and was shocked that this hasn't been closed down Brian.
Nice video, and a lovely view out of the top :).
Steve why are your good videos not getting views? Your video was hanging as though youtube are playing games, its not the first time.

@@stevecoatesdotnet I still think you should and deserve more views.
@@timawells I said the same thing about Banaman when I found his channel back in 2020. I think he only had about 200 subscribers back then.
@@stevecoatesdotnet He has 20,000 plus now.
2:38 Lets assume it's totally safe
actually people have been hur... [audio cut]
If people have been hurt why is it still operating. Once I had used it once it was fine.

nothing is entirely safe, people have lots of accidents on staircases tbh.
Ni tim nice video ... When u gunna meadow hall and tinsley videos please thanks Andy
Tinsley ua-cam.com/video/JuByjezdJbs/v-deo.html Andy they won't like me inside Meadowhall with a camera.
The lift looks like something out of the thunderbirds :)
Are go.
Flat Pack at the top 🤣
I let Steve test it first Mark. He came out in once piece.
@@timawells Who's betting @BANAMAN will edit his video to make it look like I completely vanish? :)
@@stevecoatesdotnet Should be interesting Steve.
That lift is scary😮
Not going to join us when we Abseil off the building Karen, ;)
@@timawells Ha ha, no thanks.
I shall give that a miss methinks.
@@KarenG.-qs7wc Where is your sense of adventure, so you won't be joining me for a fire walk Karen.
So anyone can go in and used the lifts then?

Did you try tap dancing in the echoey paternoster? Great sound😂
I used to know someone called Tim Paternoster. That's all.
Do you need permission to go into the Art's Tower and lifts if you're not a student there?
If you don't cause a disturbance no body will question you.
looks like if you tripped or had a limb in the wrong place it would ✂️
I bet there have been no accidents or it would have been closed. There are normal lifts for others.
Who thought Paternoster lifts were a good idea? Glasgow U had one. Never used it.
I would rather use than a normal one.
