    Great review. After riding the SK8 850 here in the gorge, the eagle 890 and the Eagle 790. I sold all my Armstrong foils. I had a HA925, MA 1000 and all the new HA780&HA880. F-ones are faster and the SK8 is more fun in swell. Finally they don’t “misbehave” at all! Kudos F-one,
    Note: I prefer the 85cm mast, who’s they offered a 90cm, 95 is a bit long.

      sweet to hear you are preferring the FOne gear! I def could be happy riding their stuff, I'm just so heavily invested in Armstrong that it's hard to jump over. I have more FOne stuff coming soon! I think I'm going to get to try the EagleX 1000 and the Eagle 1190... so stoked to try the bigger sizes! I loved that EagleX 700 for winging. have you tried one?

    My second post to this video, last time I'd made my own mast but this time I tested my latest wing design and it's got a lot in common with many of these new generation surf agility wings. Mine is probably even more springy with my Aliexpress carbon fire unidirectional and locally sourced double bias and my wing tips are even thinner. Only had the one ride of my newest wing so far but it is like I'm on shock absorbers gybing around in the trough of a wave with cross chop in it so I can really relate to this review of the SK8, the smoothness from tip flex. I think my tip flex steals a little bit of my glide performance but I wouldn't change it, it's freaking awesome. I've got a bit more sweepback than the SK8 too, 4 years spitting out the ocasional burst of designs and I've got a much better idea of how to get just the performance I want now.

      Sweet bud! Glad you circled back! The foil you made sounds fun! I dig a good springy feeling underfoot. Sometimes you can get it from the mast, other times the foil. But if you work with the flex, sometimes it can really improve your experience in the right conditions. Glad yr digging it! Thanks and I wish you an awesome weekend!

    That said, I just picked up the new HA880 from Armstrong and have one prone session on it. I think it is going to revolutionize my prone game. I liked it so much I ordered a 680 as well. Looking forward to your thoughts on them. Cheers

    I made my own carbon mast recently. on my mould top plate I made cone-nipples for drilling guides and slot cutting markers. After drilling and cutting i realised that the corners looked very fragile and became concerned that a corner might snap off if I was careless and dropped the mast. So I sliced them at an angle, leaving only just enough to grab the bolt's countersunks. F-1 has space to slot instead of drill their base plate which would be a big improvement. I made my front to back bolt spacing bigger than other mast base plates for a more spread out connection to the board.

    • @OCEANBOUND1

      super interesting bud! I totally get that some companies don't do it by design but you think they could design around it. its so much easier using the slots. now some companies are shipping track spacers that make it easier but why not just design around it? I guess people are so concerned with weight these days but I'd say that's a necessary weight addition. stoked you made your own mast! how's it working? does it have any cavitation or ventilation issues?

    • @fluiditynz
      @fluiditynz 3 місяці тому

      @@OCEANBOUND1 I'm loving it. No ventilation issues and I've found it goes upwind better, better glide, speed. From the 19mm Aluminium Axis it's a great change, the old mast had become my slowest part after I designed the foils I'm riding this year.

    Jeremy - you’re an inspiration to us all! Every time UA-cam pops us with one of your videos my day just brightens up! I’ve got a dilemma to solve and your expertise/advice would be much appreciated. Currently, I ride HA925 with 195 tail in Miami where summers tend to be on the lighter side, swells are typically between 2-5 ft unless we get some power storms like this weekend. I need to decide between HA780 or HA880 as replacement to my 925 and looking to buy only one front wing. I am about 175lbs and intermediate winger, interested only in wing surfing…no prone or sup foil. What would be your recommendation for front wing? Any thoughts on glide vs. speed for S. FL conditions? I hope to see you on the water.. we typically go to Virginia Key, easy entry and decent swell past the reef.

    • @OCEANBOUND1

      Awww thanks so much bud 🙏 hugely appreciated.
      That’s interesting situation, and unfortunately I don’t have access to the new foils yet so I just do not know what they are like. But from the early riders out there, it sounds like the 880 is the one that should replace the 925, and if you are going for a one fill quiver, I think that should be your one foil. If you were keeping the 925 I’d say maybe go smaller, but you will prolly get the most use out of the 880 with your conditions. I can’t wait to get on the new HAs! Totally stoked at all the reviews I’m reading!

      Unrelated question: what are your thoughts on harnesses? Noticed you don’t use them. I am new and this is my first winter winging and the arm fatigue with gloves is tough. I live on the coast of North Carolina. Mainly ride ocean, tacking out to ride swell back in so get a break when on a wave.

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  8 місяців тому +1

      @@kovz910 lol you had to go here! kidding. I think harnesses are great for a lot of people. it comes down to personal preference. I personally do not like using them. why? because I'm silly and stubborn. maybe because I do not have a reason to use one yet. I know it makes winter riding easier... but I somehow prefer the alternative, which is to suffer. I have been in races that people use them and they always win... so I'm bitter in that situation because it definitely gives you an edge, but I wish there were rules against it. I think my whole thing with winging is the freedom of no harness after 15 years of being hooked up to a kite. I want my arms to get so worked I can barely hold on. I want to try to get more endurance in those areas. so I do what i can to try to make that part of me better. harnesses feel like cheating. I have an injury in my SC joint and if it doesn't get much better, I may have to resort to using one. but like I said, it's personal preference and I do not think any less of you for using a harness... they are a tool. the only time I'd think less of someone is if we were in a race, and they were beating me. jerks. lol.

    Thanks for your review, always enjoy your videos 🙂 I also had the SK8 850 for one season, awesome foil! What are your reasons for only using an 80cm mast?

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  8 місяців тому +1

      Nice bud, and thanks!!! 🙏
      For the 80cm… it’s the perfect height for me. I went from a 100 to a 72 and really enjoyed the direct-ness of the 72, the 100 was flexy. I never felt compelled to go to the 85. So when the new masts came out, the options were 795 and 935 and the 795 seemed like the perfect answer to staying kind of short but getting just a little extra cushion than the 72. I like the way the shorter masts react. I have pretty decent pitch control. And I like the pumping on it, and from what I’ve noticed many pumpers are into that 795 size as well. So I think if I can make it work, it should be the do-all size. I don’t ever question what it’d be like to ride a longer mast, I like where I am.
      What do you ride?

    • @nikolauslemberski
      @nikolauslemberski 7 місяців тому

      Thank you, I have the same feeling as you. I normally ride 82 cm, but I have just bought a 90 cm mast. It's very good for going fast with small foils over chop, but after a few sessions back and forth I like the shorter mast much better.

    Hi!! Thanks for sharing!! Just a question: which of the two foils (eagle vs. sk8) has better lower wind capability and lower stall speed? I tested the sk8 950 (jibes and tacks level) on flat water (68 kg, 5.0 Strike V2, 75 L) and was struggling to come on the foil at 12-15 knots. Probably the wrong pumping technique, but I found it a really difficult foil compared to my Phantom 1280. Maybe I should have tested the 1050. cheers! Jordan

    • @wingfoilingsimssee
      @wingfoilingsimssee 8 місяців тому +4

      Hi Jordan. And thanks for the great video Jeremy. Maybe I can help out this time.
      If you have problems to get the 950 out of the water at that wind speed please forget about the eagle. The technique is very different to the phantom. The eagle requires much more downwind angle and speed. But once in the air it has a very good stall speed.
      I had the eagle in 1090 and 890. very stable and awesome. But once i was on the sk8 (950 and 750) I immediately noticed it suited my riding style better. Though I live at a flat water spot the ability of surfy turns is so great. I pair it with a longer fuse (XS) and a C200 for added pitch stability. Most of the people seem to love the monobloc 160 but it’s simply too pitchy for me.
      So to answer the question: same weight (even 3kg more), same board the 950 is my go to foil as soon as I call it wind. For the days below 10-12kn I use a SS1200 or stay at home.
      I use the 750 from 15kn to open end.
      Two years ago I would have never thought that I can use such a small foil. So maybe it’s a bit about technique. But anyway the starting technique of the sk8 is much nearer to the phantom than the eagle!
      Have a nice time guys!
      So stoked about this wonderful sport!

      @OCEANBOUND1  8 місяців тому +2

      huge hello to both of you!
      @kountchev1 I would def trust my Simssee riding German friend here! I've been on the Eagle 990 and it def takes a little speed to get on foil. so paired with maybe a dw board, you may find it a good light wind option but for regualar board I'd say the Phantom or SK8 will suit you better. the 950 SK8 will behave so much differently to the 1280, that's a decent size difference! the Phantom's AR is around 6. the SK8 has the same wingspan as the 1280 Phantom but there is a lot more area close to the center of the Phantom that makes getting up on foil in the light wind easier. I'm sure there is a specific technique you would learn in the lighter winds with the SK8, I know there was in the Armie HA925 and once I figured it out it kinda made it my favorite in lighter winds.

      @@wingfoilingsimssee i would say the same than you , sk8 seem a bit faster to get up , phantom are the faster to get up, seven seas are best of both and most important they are still fast and stay up , i have a 1400 7 seas could have gone for the 1200 7seas at 85 kg. at 68kg there might be an alternative tho the eagle 1280 but it will probably take off slower than the 7seas!

      @@Danieldaniel-gz8fe you know what? I could totally be wrong on this. I never really winged with aluminum but I kited on them a lot.
