I've got slotted iron but have never seen L tracks. Just bought a rivnut set (Astro 1427 w/assorted nuts, lol) on Amazon, more new ground for me as I had never seen or heard of them before I had a steel partition installed. Yes, I'm installing the very thing most van dwellers want to rip out. It gives me safety, privacy, stealth, better cabin insulation and slows down the emf radiation. Has significantly improved my sleep quality! Not sure what it will be like in summer but I'm soon to find out. So far the only thing I don't like about it is having a low clearance door in my HR van : \
Hi Jed. I found it helpful that you should how to install those, and you mentioned in a prior video I believe what your intention was to attach to these metal bars, but I can't recall what it was. Why are these L track bars necessary, and what will YOU be attaching to them? Your own designed furniture, to secure it in the van? A utility-sink unit? Other? maybe you mention on the next vlog which I also had to miss (I'm behind). I'll watch the solar one next :)
Looking really good 👍 You might however want to consider a thermal barrier between the van metal and that fancy-strap-it-here-bar. Almost any material (that does not compressed a lot) can be used. So a sheet of plastic, or wood or cardboard or even that foamy stuff you use on the windows, could be used to create a bit of a thermal barrier. The foamy stuff you use on the windows will obviously compress some, but you might be surprised how mush compression resistance that material has, once it goes between plates that equates to a few square inches.
Planning to use the same two in combo (L Track and Rivnuts), but in my case, mount the tracks vertically, so that I can adjust the height to where I want it. I'm doing a stealth van build in a RAM ProMaster City, and want to make it possible to lower the platform down to seating height, but also raise it for sleeping, which will let me sleep 2 in an "X" formation: one on the platform slanted "/" front to back, and one underneath it on the floor in "\" formation front to back. which is better for headroom above each than doing over under bunks since the lower person won't have any obstruction over their head, since the bed platform for the upper person can be truly narrow down at their feet... Hope that all makes a little sense, but plan to do build videos and will be the first I've seen that is purposely designed to sleep 2 comfortably in such a small van, without sleeping on the same platform (since it's my brother!). Should end up where just a few storage boxes need to be moved from under the platform to clear the space for the lower person legs. But I think van builders SHOULD ABSOLUTELY be looking at using RIVNUTS, because no one seems to start out their van build with thoughts of "what if I have a collision? - is everything behind me going to come crashing forward and drive ME through the windshield? Rivnuts, and a good design where all the build can be tied down very well with them, is the best chance of preventing that. Good to see it all work for you since I haven't used mine yet! :)
rivnuts are the shit (though id get plusnuts if i were in the states), i went rivnut crazy and rivnuttet everything haha. it even works for 3mm fibreglass!
fo sho, i mean, i wouldnt put a heavy load on it, the fibregalss is pretty brittle on its own, and the rivnuts are only 1 or 2 mm when crushed, but yea. I of course onll did it where im douible walled.
L Track is great for installing compatible equipment like tie downs. But I have still not understood their use in van conversions. you already have a good connection point with the rivnuts. Why not attach the bed or whatever directly to the threaded holes? I don't understand the point of having this expensive thing, especially for stuff that does not require standardization like custom built things.
Just screwing stuff into the Rivnuts is just as flexible. L Tracks were meant to allow a standardized mounting option. If you build custom stuff anyway it's just as modular as the L Track. But hey you do you, just curious to find out the reasons.
Peter Thomson the other problem would be the van is probably not level. So then you'd have to go someplace level and level the van to make sure that your level was working properly. It's a real quandary!

this is so exciting warching this awesome idea taking place!!! super excited to c how it turns out!!!
I don't know what it's going to be used for, but I'll be watching your videos to find out.
I don`t see where it`s going yet but I`ll be watching. Nice job!
Rivnuts are the coolest fasteners. I still have hundreds of them.
Good video, and music. Great job Jed! Riv nut tool☺👍
Hi Jed; What's uuup?!😱 That L bracket is a really "groovey " idea!
Thanks for sharing that. (That music is very fitting) Good job.
I'm looking forward to see what you're planning here... Glad to see the Harbor Freight tool did the job!
super cool, looks like really good gear, can't wait to see how they work when you attach stuff to them!

Interesting, good vid

Oh it’s going to come off before I insulate and panel the walls. I needed to install the rivnuts first so figured I’d make a video out the whole thing
Good thinking 👍

Well said!
Love L-Track ! Is going into my expediting rig soon as :) much prettier than E-track
rivnuts are the shit (though id get plusnuts if i were in the states), i went rivnut crazy and rivnuttet everything haha. it even works for 3mm fibreglass!
No shit? Fiberglass? Maybe we could use them on our hight top
fo sho, i mean, i wouldnt put a heavy load on it, the fibregalss is pretty brittle on its own, and the rivnuts are only 1 or 2 mm when crushed, but yea. I of course onll did it where im douible walled.
Do those attachment strips go over the wall panelling ?
That’s the plan

Why not attach the bed or whatever directly to the threaded holes? I like to change it up a lot, its great for me. I see your point for the person is the "set it and forget it type"

I wish I could had help you when you was in long Beach I live close from there next time you're around
What is an L track used for?
tying down or attaching pretty much anything you want
Into The Mystery ⓭ thank you.
Use a level and chalk line dude.
Peter Thomson come on it's in a van, it's not going to the Moon.
I hope they are using more than a chalk line at NASA. I get your point my thinking is if it's lined up it will cause less headaches in the future.
Peter Thomson the other problem would be the van is probably not level. So then you'd have to go someplace level and level the van to make sure that your level was working properly. It's a real quandary!
I think you enjoy building vans ? why not doing business that way..! and resale the van..! most businesses start in the garage of the house..
It is a possibility!
