14:01 Joel Klatt once again gives Mason Graham & Kenneth Grant the credit for the being the best defensive tackles in the country. As many of y’all may already know Mason Graham has been the outright #1 defensive tackle in the country since the beginning of spring football this past year.
Exactly ! Did we win or did osu lose the game ? My friend said that Howard was dinged up. I said, if that was the case, put in another QB. They have several talented QB's. They bought in hook, line and sinker about the rushing yards and for whatever the reason went away from their strengths.

These games become chess matches. And like all chess players know… focussing on what you are doing is only 1/2 of the equation. Ryan Day continues to fail to adjust in big games to what the other guys are doing.
Michigan dominated more than the score showed. We left 2 touchdowns on the table! If we had Cade McNamara even we win by atleast 3 touchdowns. If wink woulda figured out defense earlier Michigan is 10-2 at the very least
Joel you should definitely distance yourself from "The World Famous Gus" before he drags you down with him. He's making himself look like a fool. No one from the state of Michigan likes or respects him and for good reasons too. Joel you are far better then Gus. Leave Gus before the state of Michigan leaves you. There is still time to keep your credibility intact. Go Blue!
The reason it really happened Joel was that Ryan Day wanted to prove they were tougher than Michigan. He has never gotten over being called soft including by Lou Holtz. Unfortunately that is not their strength and they were not tougher than Michigan.
I said the same thing about the sequence in the 3rd Qtr. You could hear the collective sight of “Oh God No! This is happening again!” and on Michigan’s side you felt “We got you right where we want you!” Michigan knew OSU would likely falter in doubt if the game was tight in the 4th quarter. Their resolve has been fleeting these past four years while Michigan’s has been championship level. Michigan doesn’t quit, especially in this matchup. OSU got knocked down really bad in that 3rd quarter and they didn’t find the ability to get up off the mat . They tried but it just never materialized.
Gus saying Michigan didn’t cheat this time hilarious bias whole game supposed to be neutral but it was clearly he’s a ohio fan coming from a person who just loves football no ties to either team
Here's the thing, Joel and you can pass this along to your partner, one person embarrassed themselves and it was Ryan Day.And Gus should check with OSU and see if they have a play by play job opening up because clearly he is a HUGE Ohio State fan.
Joel, for the most part, I like your commentary and your videos -- but wow... your buddy Gus needs to send an apology to the Michigan players and staff for some comments during his commentary. Very unprofessional.
Joel can you PLEASE have your partner tone it down on the Ohio State favoritism. Absolutely love you guys commentating but Gus is hard to listen to when Ohio State is playing.
As a Michigan fan, I agree with you 100%. If that kicker had made both those easy kicks, then everybody's analysis of the game would be totally different.
If he makes both, Ohio State wins 16-13. However, you're missing the dumb interception thrown by Davis Warren to Jack Sawyer. So, if you want to do "what ifs" then the score should have been 20-16 Michigan.
The analysis Joel offers from 7:04 to 9:40 is really excellent, high-level stuff and helps explain better than anything else I've heard how Day and co. let Michigan dictate the game.
Michigan did drive the field. The first time ended in the 4th down stop inside the 5 - and led to the Howard pick. The second ended with the Sawyer pick. The third ended with the winning FG.
@@jamescrawley5293they could have done it all game had Campbell called a better game. Osu was overcommitting to stopping the run which left them extremely vulnerable to play action pass and trick plays but Campbell was unwilling to call more of those plays.

You sounded so biased all game long, it was embarrassing. Did you give credit at times to Michigan yes, but you were so overly concerned for Ohio and what they needed to do to win, it sounded completely biased in favor of Ohio.
As a Michigan fan, you are completely wrong. He wasn't being biased at all. It was more of a shock value that Ohio State kept trying to run the ball in key moments in the game rather than using there 3 5* WR's. The reason he wasn't doing the same thing for Michigan because he knew they were doing exactly what they needed to do to win the game, so there is no need to comment.
@@Green_Arrow118and as another Michigan fan you are completely wrong. From the pregame remarks through the end of the physical altercation (and every single play in between) both Gus and Joel talked about Ohio like they are a world class team and about Michigan like they were trash. It was blatantly biased towards Ohio and embarrassing for their network how lopsided their remarks were.
I agree. Klatt needs to check his opinions a little more when he's in the broadcast booth (as opposed to podcast). And he & Gus as a unit sounded more biased against Michigan this time than ever before.
Your analysis is spot on. Last year UM did the same thing with the defensive front and more depth with the occasional blitz (UM had a much better secondary). Things are very difficult for a passing team if the defense doesn't have to commit extra defensive resources to get pressure, ask Washington last year. The difference this year is there is little depth and a weaker secondary, which wears the defense down. Add an inept offense that can't stay on the field with a lack of line depth makes the problem worse. I kept telling OSU friends the simple fact that OSU couldn't wear down UM's defensive front was the game. OSU hasn't seen a starting defensive front with UM's talent. OSU had no confidence in Howard, and UM created the numbers in the defensive secondary to force OSU to run, which was UM's strength. Brilliant coaching strategy by UM.
Does anyone notice how the Michigan Wolverines & the Detroit Lions, somehow have similar games on the same weekends. Like when the Lions beat the Packers, their rival, by a field goal, & then, same week, U of M beat their rival, Ohio State, by 3 points. And in both games the loser was mad. Do you think this is just a coincidence?
Excellent analysis, as always. Especially enjoyable for ... reasons. One factor that Joel didn't mention, though, which is hugely significant: Ryan Day's psychology. Harbaugh wrecked him with his "Born on 3rd" subliminal. Sherrone & Kurt just game planned man-ball to force Day to show Buckeye fans and the world that they were "TOUGH". Well, they weren't.
Joel ! The problem , in my humble opinion , is the Offensive Line . When that center went down in practice on November 18th , things changed . After already losing their best Tackle against Oregon . The backup during the Nebraska game , the center really hurt . During the Michigan game the ball was nearly rolled back to the QB on several snaps . Kelly had no confidence in play calling and Howard was rushed .
How many years is Joel going to announce games without being able to compliment Michigan or doubt their ability to win? Joel was stunned during the game and couldn't compliment the master class occuring on the field.
Whatever was going through Ryan Day and Chip Kelly's minds in that game may never be fully known. It was as if the cumulative nightmares of all of those blown games vs Michigan in the mid-90s coalesced into this one game in 2024. Gotta tip my hat to Michigan Head Coach Sherrone Moore for motivating his team like he did and to his D-Line because they dominated like no other D-Line I've ever seen.
No Will Johnson - not Will “Howard”. 3:21. Also, take exception to your claim that Michigan did nothing on offense. Drove the field 2x. Once stopped on 4th (barely) due to a less than great play call. Other ended by bad throw/interception. Should have had points out of each. Finally, you guys didn’t have your best day in the booth either - particularly your over-excitable and irritating partner Gus, who’s bad take on the melee post-game was historic and a joke.
Exactly what I’ve been thinking he could not show up all year and let the team and other coaches run the show and they would do the same. A good record doesn’t make him a good coach he just has great rosters
That's stupid. This is the exact same rhetoric Michigan fans would say to Jim Harbaugh because he could never beat Urban Myer; he was still a good coach who could win football games. If you had fired him, you would have never won the National Championship in 23. Unless you know of a suitable replacement, it's stupid to replace a winning head coach.
@josiahpryor7527 Me personally, along with others I've seen think Mike Vrabel COULD be a great replacement HC. Do I know this? Nope. But I think it'd be worth a shot
I can't believe no one is mentioning the horrible under throw INT by Davis w/ a wide open TE in the end zone and UofM getting stopped on a 4 and inches from inside the 5. Michigan was beating themselves just as bad as OSU
I been saying the same exact thing. Seems like Day and Kelly wanted to win the toughness battle more than the victory. Bill Walsh pioneer of the west coast offense & those he mentored (Shanahan, Holmgren etc) passed first to set up the run. Additionally Walsh made sure he and the players were LOOSE. He once dressed as a bellhop for example. Ryan seems so tense, tight, likely filtering down to the players. Michigan always seems relaxed, confident, this isn't being talked about. IMO, there's a fine line between respect for the rival, and obsession to the point of overthinking the game. There's a reliable source(Kirk Barton buckeye scoop) revealing the players called a players only meeting w/Coach Day, which was heated, and shockingly Coach Day doubled down on the excessive running game plan. WOW
I really enjoy your takes and broadcast, Joel. But I'll admit, you and Gus were both extremely bias towards OSU. I get that they're the #2 team in the country and it's all about marketing, but it was very one-sided. Kirk H. played there and has been more neutral in his broadcasts. I really hope you both take the comments to heart and change the mindset.
I really like Joel. He’s one of the best however Michigan did drive 72 yards in one drive Ohio State defense is good but Michigan could’ve exploited it more with a good quarterback and better play calling so I have to disagree with the fact that Michigan couldn’t move the ball based on that one drive alone And then when they needed it at the end of the game, Mullins pop that 1520 yard run down the right sideline after he got stuffed at the line of scrimmage they made the place they needed to make O’Leary had a great catch, picked up a first down.
Great, fair analysis. Many people are expressing similar things, but this is the clearest and most eloquent breakdown I have seen. Thank you. I would ask for you to get Gus to calm down a bit, but we all know that is impossible. Go Blue and good luck to the Buckeyes in the playoff.
From the second half of the Indiana game right through the end of this one, the Michigan defense was an absolute brick wall. I strongly agree with Joel on this point.
I kept telling my friends about how good Michigan's D-Line was but I never envisioned 2 missed field goals and 2 picks from Ohio State. Those were just killers! On one of the interceptions Will Howard was not even pressured. Very strange.
Joel. We marched down the field 72 yards before we threw the int in end zone. Also Will Howard got jacked up after that hit by Page. He was never the same after that
I think it’s clear that Day was so obsessed with the stat that for the last 20 matchups the team that had more rush yds won the game so he felt the need to run more than he should’ve. Is there a coach in cfb with a greater inferiority complex than that guy?
*Michigan drives the length of the field, turns it over on downs at the 3, defense forces a pick* Joel- "Michigan didnt drive the length of the field they only scored on short fields" ORRRRR, Michigan trusted their defense and thats why they played 3rd and 4th down the way they did
Lifelong OSU fan here, that lived through the John Cooper years. The way I see it, Day and Cooper have two things in common. The first may seem trivial, but I believe it is important, is that they are both not natives of Ohio (or even the midwest in general), and have no real understanding of this rivalry, despite the lip service they both give it. The second is that they both seem to coach this game "not to lose", which is not the same as coaching "to win". They are/were just too scared of making "the big mistake", and thus are/were ultra-conservative in their approach. Ironically, ultra-conservative Jim Tressel still took more chances in this game than Day or Cooper ever have (going back to my previous point, perhaps because he is from Ohio?). Only your colleague on BNK has a better record (percentage-wise) than Tressel against the Wolverines.
That "draw" that everyone was complaining about was actually a decent play. Oregon and Illinois had burned UM with draw plays earlier in the year. It was a safe playcall that had a good chance of hitting. Blame the fieldgoal kicker for choking.
Normally Joel Klattbsays a lot of things I agree with. But I wholeheartedly disagree with his assertion that OsuS defense is “really good.” News flash. Michigans offense is awful. A really good defense holds us to 0 lol

I used to say the same thing about Jim hairball. If urban Meyer hadn’t left, hairball would have never beat Ohio State and you know it.
Harbaugh didn't have a victory against Ohio State until his 7th season at Michigan .
Feel like Sherrone Moore is not getting enough credit for his approach to the game, and the game plan they came in with. They threw the ball with Davis Warren and let him play free, unlike prior games. It felt like one team was loose and the other played tight the whole game. Go Blue baby 〽️
Not gonna lie, Joel-you and Gus didn’t call the game evenly. It felt like I was listening to Ohio fans in the booth. Honestly, I think ‘The Game’ deserves fresh voices. It might be time for you two to take a seat on the bench.
They just voiced what most viewers thought, including Michigan fans during the game. Michigan did not play a killer game, both teams looked pathetic.
I see both of your points.
@@timalan7406 I’m not sure what that has to do with calling the game objectively. If they’re heading into it with a predetermined outlook, it only proves they’re not equipped to handle this rivalry. Maybe they’d be better suited for something like a Penn State-Maryland game-probably more their level of commentary.

14:01 Joel Klatt once again gives Mason Graham & Kenneth Grant the credit for the being the best defensive tackles in the country. As many of y’all may already know Mason Graham has been the outright #1 defensive tackle in the country since the beginning of spring football this past year.
Joel and Gus have schlarffed so much OSU meat pole this year they must be on suicide watch!!
I am a huge Michigan fan but I was expecting a up tempo offense in the second half. God bless Blue but I don't know what osu was thinking
Exactly ! Did we win or did osu lose the game ? My friend said that Howard was dinged up. I said, if that was the case, put in another QB. They have several talented QB's. They bought in hook, line and sinker about the rushing yards and for whatever the reason went away from their strengths.
@@ChrisCoy-q2b me neither
Most of us OSU fans are thinking the same thing, somethings worked, we never went back to it. I remember back when A Thomas was there rb and I can still see them screening us literally to death. Prolly why most fans who were not big on getting rid of Day are now on the get rid of day boat..
Joel wanted OsU to win sooo bad 😂 The media’s mistake in this game was thinking these games are won on paper. Coaching matters. Game plans matter.
More specifically, motivation matters, and Sherrone Moore does that better than most.
@@gregj831it wasn’t about motivation. OSU had plenty of that and then some. It was about game plan and execution.
These games become chess matches. And like all chess players know… focussing on what you are doing is only 1/2 of the equation. Ryan Day continues to fail to adjust in big games to what the other guys are doing.
Not being a soft team like osu matters as well.
@@s4j3ns I'm not what offensive line out there in college could make a job of that Michigan D-Line.
Michigan dominated more than the score showed. We left 2 touchdowns on the table! If we had Cade McNamara even we win by atleast 3 touchdowns. If wink woulda figured out defense earlier Michigan is 10-2 at the very least
❤
Michigan 10-2?!! You're dreaming.
BS Michigan should have lost 8 games
Tough means absolutely nothing. You can beat a tough team 35 to 10.
I said the same thing about the sequence in the 3rd Qtr. You could hear the collective sight of “Oh God No! This is happening again!” and on Michigan’s side you felt “We got you right where we want you!”
Michigan knew OSU would likely falter in doubt if the game was tight in the 4th quarter.
Dude, your handle is detroitwhatup 😂😂😂
He a msu fan
Here's the thing, Joel and you can pass this along to your partner, one person embarrassed themselves and it was Ryan Day.And Gus should check with OSU and see if they have a play by play job opening up because clearly he is a HUGE Ohio State fan.
Joel, for the most part, I like your commentary and your videos -- but wow... your buddy Gus needs to send an apology to the Michigan players and staff for some comments during his commentary. Very unprofessional.
Agreed... Gus has become a huge "Rooster Vacuum" if you get my drift!!
Joel can you PLEASE have your partner tone it down on the Ohio State favoritism. Absolutely love you guys commentating but Gus is hard to listen to when Ohio State is playing.
Both missed kicks by osu were HUGE for michigan staying in the game let alone coming away with the win
As a Michigan fan, I agree with you 100%. If that kicker had made both those easy kicks, then everybody's analysis of the game would be totally different.
I laughed at both and knew if osu lost, those would be two moments that defined the game and was right. Go blue!
@@philipalvarez2561 And if Michigan didn't get picked off in the endzone. Stuff happens it's what you do after that makes the difference.
If he makes both, Ohio State wins 16-13. However, you're missing the dumb interception thrown by Davis Warren to Jack Sawyer. So, if you want to do "what ifs" then the score should have been 20-16 Michigan.
3:27 Michigan's corner is Will Johnson. Will Howard is the OSU quarterback (aka Dorthy this aint Kansas anymore Howard)
I was just going to say this. Preach King 👑
The analysis Joel offers from 7:04 to 9:40 is really excellent, high-level stuff and helps explain better than anything else I've heard how Day and co. let Michigan dictate the game.
Joel... Can you tell Gus to chill? I thought he was a detoiter... He's about to lose his city pass. Thanks.
Michigan did drive the field. The first time ended in the 4th down stop inside the 5 - and led to the Howard pick. The second ended with the Sawyer pick. The third ended with the winning FG.
Are you actually trying to say Michigan had a good offense in the game?
@@timalan7406had just about the same total yards as Ohio state 🤷🏼♂️

@@jamescrawley5293they could have done it all game had Campbell called a better game. Osu was overcommitting to stopping the run which left them extremely vulnerable to play action pass and trick plays but Campbell was unwilling to call more of those plays.
@@blankname6629 I agree, I feel like that’s partly to do with Davis warren being at quarterback
All game long Joel was glazing OSU let’s keep it real. The whole game.
I'm a fan of you Joel but re-watch your telecast.... you... ALL GAME LONG, were explaining how OHIO needs to play to beat Michigan. AS IF it's what you wanted to see.
@@jayrousse9672 Joel likes to think he's the voice of college football when he's just the voice of Joel.
I agree. Klatt needs to check his opinions a little more when he's in the broadcast booth (as opposed to podcast). And he & Gus as a unit sounded more biased against Michigan this time than ever before.
He laughed when Warren threw that redzone int
What a game. Wow. Nice to see that old school power football can still be successful at the highest levels of the game.
If Gus does this game next year, the volume goes to zero. I don’t need to hear him or Joel.
It was a mental game. Michigan got in their heads an won it!
It is a head game. If urban Meyer come back to Ohio State, you would see the fear in the eyes of all Michigan players coaches and especially the fans.
The money they pay you can’t be worth having to deal with Gus Johnson
Gus loves his buckeyes

Thanks for picking against us
Joel, I’m being dead serious. Gus needs to go. His blatant hatred for UofM makes the broadcast un-listenable.
Gus johnson is bad at his job no matter what game he calls. Strongly disliked amongst the nation.
Everybody saying “look at Ryan days record overall, he is a great coach” is delusional. My grandmother could coach OSUs roster to a 10 win season
Exactly what I’ve been thinking he could not show up all year and let the team and other coaches run the show and they would do the same. A good record doesn’t make him a good coach he just has great rosters
Yep.
@@yellowstoneYT7343 I would prefer they get Luke Fickell back.
I can't believe no one is mentioning the horrible under throw INT by Davis w/ a wide open TE in the end zone and UofM getting stopped on a 4 and inches from inside the 5. Michigan was beating themselves just as bad as OSU
Joel Klatt is really good. Mite be the best analyst in the business. Think he needs a better partner than Gus Johnson...Just my take🤷🏻♂
I been saying the same exact thing.
Gus has been losing it for years now. Last season he called a missed field goal "incomplete."
The best analysis of "The Game" that I have seen yet. Thanks, Joel!
Excellent analysis, thank you young man.
Great, fair analysis. Many people are expressing similar things, but this is the clearest and most eloquent breakdown I have seen. Thank you. I would ask for you to get Gus to calm down a bit, but we all know that is impossible. Go Blue and good luck to the Buckeyes in the playoff.
Almost 13 minutes in and still not 1 oz of credit to Michigan boy losing all kinds of respect for you bro
From the second half of the Indiana game right through the end of this one, the Michigan defense was an absolute brick wall. I strongly agree with Joel on this point.
Yes..I think Wink finally figured it out..Instead of blitzing, trust that your DL can do it's job.
I kept telling my friends about how good Michigan's D-Line was but I never envisioned 2 missed field goals and 2 picks from Ohio State. Those were just killers! On one of the interceptions Will Howard was not even pressured. Very strange.
Gus is the most unlikeable commentator in sports history
No joe buck and probably some random crocket announcer that nobody's heard of is probably more hated
Ask Gus to apologize to the nation
Joel. We marched down the field 72 yards before we threw the int in end zone. Also Will Howard got jacked up after that hit by Page. He was never the same after that
Joe stop it all year u said Michigan was going lose vs Ohio st because of the roster
Excellent, excellent analysis.
Best interpretation of what the OSU coaches were going for on the internet!
I think it’s clear that Day was so obsessed with the stat that for the last 20 matchups the team that had more rush yds won the game so he felt the need to run more than he should’ve. Is there a coach in cfb with a greater inferiority complex than that guy?

Joel always incorrectly calls Will Johnson as “Will Howard”
I heard that also.
Joel is a fraud and his hubris is MASSIVE. A legend only to his family😂😂😂
Joel this is a super technical explanation of how Ohio simply is soft 😂
*Michigan drives the length of the field, turns it over on downs at the 3, defense forces a pick* Joel- "Michigan didnt drive the length of the field they only scored on short fields" ORRRRR, Michigan trusted their defense and thats why they played 3rd and 4th down the way they did
Not true. Michigan only had 5 first downs in three quarters and were outlined 255 yards to 133 yards
@genghiskhan9269 the 4th down he's talking about was at the end of an 11 play 72-yard drive that ended up being a turnober on downs at the 3.
As Michigan fan I need to say, we loved John Cooper.
I remember those days as well..I can still remember the look on Coop's face when he played them, looked petrified..
That "draw" that everyone was complaining about was actually a decent play. Oregon and Illinois had burned UM with draw plays earlier in the year. It was a safe playcall that had a good chance of hitting. Blame the fieldgoal kicker for choking.
This is pretty much an 18min video of Joel Klatt finding a logical excuse of why OSU loss. This is a full on excuse tangent 😂

Love the comments keeping you, mostly Gus accountable for the way y’all called the game. Kind of despicable but I may be biased too
Normally Joel Klattbsays a lot of things I agree with. But I wholeheartedly disagree with his assertion that OsuS defense is “really good.” News flash. Michigans offense is awful. A really good defense holds us to 0 lol
Without the defense giving them the ball on the two, Kirk Campbell was in a close race of incompetence with Chip.
