This is a gorgeous, gorgeous pen~ I have been looking at Hongdian pens for awhile now but haven’t made the plunge myself. I’m looking forward to getting one myself 😊
A long knife nib gives narrow vertical strokes and wide side strokes. I believe it's like the Naginata nibs from Sailor(?). I really like Hongdian pens. I encourage to try out other brands and models you might like them too. The great thing about these kind of pens, if you do mess up the cap, the body or nib you didn't spend a lot of money to get it, nor will you spend a lot if you want to replace it. Love your videos, I love your passion!
Yes, Naginata Togi is the trademarked name owned by Sailor. It actually means Japanese long sword. Also sometimes called long blade or long knife. I have a few of these now. Mostly in Jinhao pens.
@@FountainPenNews The Naginata Togi nibs come in pens that are way out of my pen budget range for now. I’m glad I get to experience the feel of the nib in a more accessible pen before plunking down serious cash.
@@wildlyimaginable same for me! I spent about $20 on my first Jinhao long knife and that seemed like a lot to me. Now, talk to me a pilot vanishing point and e95s later and it wasn't very much! Ha ha! My understanding is that some of the calligraphy nibs from penbbs are long blade also. I ordered a couple from them with "blade" as the nib type. I'll let you know!
I've had one of these in my cart for a while! I go to the pen meet that Rupert wrote about. I'm going to ask him to bring his this weekend so I can try it again!
How awesome! Please let Rupert know that it was his post that sealed the deal for me, well that had me put it in my cart. Let me know what you think of the nib too. Don't think it would have stayed in my cart long tho if I hadn't gotten it as a gift. 🤪
I just watched this today. I’m awaiting the delivery of my new Glacier Pen. It’s “out for delivery”! I chuckled when you talked about matching ink with your pen color. I’m already thinking about that! I even did my fingernails in a blue floral to match the coveted pen! 😂
Thing is, matching ink to pen colour is something I rarely set out to do. I know it’s a pen hobby thing but not me,,,,🤷🏽♀️ it’s a mood thing. Ha! I am so excited that fricken gorgeous pen is almost in your hands! 🥳
@@wildlyimaginable girlfriend! It’s in my hands, inked up and gorgeous! If you were close by, you would have had a phone call! Yes, a blue ink with no name, just blue. The ink was in a subscription box from Archer and Olive. I’ve since learned it’s their first venture into pens and ink. But the ink is very pretty. This is a smooth writing experience! Piston filled, and easily and neatly, surprisingly for me, filled successfully! I prefer it not posted with the weight. I have nerve damage in my thumb, so the way things feel is different. Even if I’m holding it lightly it writes beautifully. Ok…that’s all…oh, and a beautiful box from Endless Pens to boot! ⭐️
@@followyourbrush Yes! Yes! Yes! Omg you got it!! So sweet when a new pen comes in. Btw, I’ve got 2 pens in 2 separate carts in 2 diff stores and it’s all I can do NOT to hit the order buttons right now. Oy! And oh yeh, I would have answered that call. ☺️
I have this pen in the nib. I'm not usually an person and it sounds like we like the same attributes in our pen nibs. With that said, it's probably my current favorite pen. It writes like a dream - not at all scratchy, and not needlepoint fine. I think you'd like the version of this.
I have the same pen and really like it. I also have the black one, but prefer silver trim. I should have gotten the white one, but it looked like the design wouldn't show up as well...ao it's blue for the win! Hong Dian does a good job and many reviewers seem to like it best among the "economical" Chinese brands.
Agree with you, Marilyn, on the white. I have this thing for white pens these days but I think the embossing is lost on that one. Shame tho. Still considering getting the black pen so I can have the gold embossing now that I have the blue with silver. Then we’ll be twining it with the N23 pens. 🤣
I did order this pen too. Just too pretty not to. The flow is quite satisfying. It also reverse writes nicely, just out of curiosity. I also bought a fude nib from HongDian too. They are great pens!
They def are! I have my eye on another HongDian but right now, I have to honour my no-pen--buy status. Whomp. Whomp. Whomp. 🥲 And you just reminded me, I actually have a Fude nib on my Jinhao 100 Centennial. I must take it out and play with it.
from what i understand, it's similar to architect nibs, where pen angle defines line thickness (more vertical - thinner, more traditional 45 deg - thicker). is that correct ?
I am still not as familiar with how particular nibs write (other than the standard sizes of cours) and why. I want to know that info off the top of my head but it is just not sticking 🤷🏽♀️

I'm def going to look at others in their lineup.
Great looking pen, and I really like the attributes you've chosen for evaluating.
Thanks Kendall. Altho it's not my original idea I am loving how it helps me see beyond the rose coloured glasses we put on when we get a new pen.
Oooooh I'm excited to be here and watch this new video 🎉
Yayyy! What do you think of the pen, not to mention the nib? Something that interest you?
