Thursday boots is about to come out with some new, heavier, moc-toe boots, and y’all should try getting early access to them to cut them in half 👀 They also just came out with a new tier of boots called their “Black Label” collection. They’ve already aired their new true cap-toe, stitchdown boots, as well as their new leather in-soled Chelsea boots. I have a feeling that their moc-toes are going to be goated
Really nice true mocassin construction, nice to see they keep them alive still. Isn't rancourt too still building true mocs with outter vamps? What is your opinion on those? (I got a pair coming and I'm really curious about them.) Also: G.H bass is well known for their affordable weejuns and even advertise them as a tubular mocassin construction. Could you elaborate what they mean by that?
I'm so freaking glad you're showcasing these with such enthusiasm. Russell deserves the recognition. I wear Russell moccasins every day, it's not a matter of clout or prestige, most people have no idea what they are or even care. I love this company and I hope their stewardship of this tradition is a huge success. I'm in for life.
@Sube-Tube I get it, I bought mine before the price went up. That said, after wearing the pairs I have, I will spend the money for more when I wear these out. Value for price is different to everyone, I was looking for the moccasin construction specifically, for a few reasons. Some people like wearing logger boots to the office, these boots are more like barefoot shoes, but better.
@@miljanstojiljkovic1782 Whatever. You can get free stuff and get paid and still have enthusiasm for something. Judge him on his opinions and facts and factor in some bias if you want, but to make such a facile claim based on nothing seems a bit silly to me. I cannot point to a single thing he has said about these boots that isn't true, and as a Russell Moccasin owner I completely understand the enthusiasm, they are all that and much more.
Few weeks ago I got fitted for the back countries, they moved into old church/school house. Very nice and small group, hopefully have mine in couple months!!
I will be there Friday for my fitting. At this price, I want to get a proper fitting. I have a pair of Rancourt's from Maine that the left boot don't fit rite. So, they sit and I get blisters on my left foot. Live and learn I guess..
I bought this exact boot a few months ago based on your previous videos on Russell’s!! Absolutely the most comfortable boot immediately on your foot!! No break in period at all!! Thanks for the intro to Russell moccasin!!!
I have always wanted a pair of Russell’s. Thanks to you Weston, I’m driving down to Russell for a fitting next Friday. Having a hard time trying to figure out what leather I want my Backcountry in? Thanks for showcasing Russell’s. They deserve to be around for a long time.
Their Walnut leather is scary close to both White's Red Dog and the Red Wing Oro Russet of the 90's. I have a pair of gustin bird shooters and back country's with the crepe sole. Insane comfort
@@That0nePerson That's good to know. I have the Red Dog as well, plus their Brown Distress and the Burgandy Double Shot, which is my favorite. I am just hoping their last will fit me decent.
The Walnut Timberjack is an incredible leather, so supple, highly water hesitant, and the colour is GORGEOUS and goes with everything, and it smells amazing, even after months of wear, and they still don't need treatment of any kind, due to being stuffed with so much oil and fats. I can't imagine a better leather for this boot unless you think you will be scuffing the heck out of the boots, then maybe the Pecos is a better option. The Weathered Oak would be identically useful if you want a darker boot, but the shrunken Bison leathers don't really seem to offer an advantage except for the looks if that's your thing. Did you check out their descriptions of the different leathers on their site? It should help you a lot to decide, depending on your planned use for the boots.
@@adamr63 I did go with the Walnut. It does look great. If fit well and can't wait till I get them. They sent me an email that they started working on them.
@@dawsonthecreative Ugh...SO tough.I think if you're gonna be in the wet bush, the backcountry. the PH's sole is much softer...I can walk at an amusement park all day and not feel fatigued. I may like my PH more, but the backcountry I feel are sturdier. Both are amazing and comfortable.
I'm glad I got the Backcountry because I live at high altitude and appreciate the extra support, and we had a crappy summer here so was able to wear them a lot. I'll definitely order the PH next spring for the really hot days, and for travelling.
These are really nice despite the price. My big deal is having two identical pairs to rotate so the boots dry out and recover between wearings. I can get two pair of custom JG's for that. BTW the African Troopers are shipping. Sweet that you are dealing with my buds at Blade HQ.
please get some Gokey Boots to review! they have a very similar style as these but a decent amount less $$. made in America of course. its very hard to find reviews on them, theyre supposed to be some excellent hunting boots. would love to see how they compare to the thousand other boots youve seen. i may go and get custom fit for some and find out but seeing other opinions first would be great.
I’d kind of like to get a pair of Russels for when I actually wear boots because of the traditional construction and waterproofness. Not sure how much I’d actually wear them, though, since I don’t know that the aesthetic would go well with a kilt.
Bought a pair when they were still doing custom boots. They didn't fit, sent them back for stretching or something to get them to fit. Got them back and tried to make them work but they're still too tied. Emailed them about a possible fix (it did admittedly take a while for me to send it) after they stopped doing custom boots and there was basically nothing they could do. That they already tried and that they ensured they made them to my measurements. So I tried a local shoe repair place to stretch them. It still wasn't enough but he had another pair of Russels in the shop that I tried on that fit the exact same as my custom pair. They were only size 10's. I normally wear 11 or 12... Still probably the nicest pair of boots I own. I just can't wear them.
Awesome video about awesome boots, even drifters are nice AF, but what about some new brands ? Let's do Truman and Parkhurst, let's unbox them and cut them in half let's gooo!
Be wary of Russell's sizing if you have wide feet. My Brannock size is 10EE. Their sizing tool recommended a 9.5D. I ended up needing to exchange for a 9.5E, and I still could've used a wider fit. Ended up needing to stretch the boots out with a boot stretcher to get a good fit, and have to wear socks that're on the thinner side to be comfortable all day.
The Backcountry also now costs $750...so one change under the new management is that the prices have gone up. Also they won't resole your boots anymore. I've had a Backcountry on order for 10 weeks now so I'll see if they measure up. FYI I ordered a pair of Baxter Boots from Rancourt on close out and paid $240, got them in 2 days and Rancourt will repair and resole them when needed.
What's the reason for the 'no resole"? Nature of a moccasin boot or just too labor intensive? Kind of a bummer since I was looking at these and the main reason for buying a high quality handmade boot is the ability to have them resoled.
@@cjanquart On the website they say they are boot makers and not cobblers. They give the address of a cobbler that does their official resoling, but it's disappointing that they won't do it in house particularly when you're paying $750 for the boots. Service and resoling is a way to keep an ongoing relationship with the customer and without that I won't be buying Russells again, I sort of wish I'd gone with Gokey. They also spray emails at you once you've ordered something which is annoying and I have unsubscribed from their email list. So I see worrying trends.
@@kingfisher9772 Yes, they currently list one cobbler. I don't think the new management understands why people are willing to pay $750 for boots. They want a great boot, but they also want a relationship with the maker who'll take care of the boots over the years and that sort of ongoing contact leads to repeat sales. I think they'll lose a lot of business by not resoling in house like Rancourt, Red Wing, Gokey etc do. I won't buy from them again without in house resoling.
New Russell sizing has nothing to do with any other sizing scheme-dumbest thing ever! Have both very early (40 years ago), 10 years ago! and current owner. Quality wasn’t great, then improved! and has now gone down (not Russell doesn’t publish if you negatively rate them on their own site, censorship a bad sign) again. One thing is their heel counters are now terrible and do not break in, even after over 100 miles hiking, conditioning, oiling, waxing, etc so if they are not perfect right out of the box, immediately send them back! The Safari style aren’t bad, much better than the Backcountry, but now the Munson last is gone they are no where near as good a fit.
All those celebs have more $ than I do t' spend howe'er they want, so maybe THAT'S why they still has small market share after o'er hundred years. Get Bruce Springsteen t' buy ten pairs or something.
Man.. kinna wish you wouldn't cut them in half with how much you like them.. much rather see a video 5-6 months from now about how they broke in and how they performed on hikes, and at work and what not.
