    You did just great! I tried this stand with a friend and didn't like the way the camera was attached to it. Now I see that this thing has become much more attractive!

      Thanks! We live in a really cool time for film photography: we can leverage newer technologies like computers and 3D printing technology, but the film photo gear is still widely available and amazingly cheap. Street price of my Canon A1 with 50mm f/1.4 in 1978 was $435--around $2000 today. In the same year, my Mamiya C220 with 80mm lens would have cost the equivalent of $1,300-1,400. It is so cool that we can buy very well made machines for so little, and they still function like they did in their glory years for the most part.

      Thanks! I'll be posting a video about my custom film holder for 120 format 6x6 film as well--the one from Valoi is a bit lackluster. Mine fits right in their metal stand.

    Been looking to do something like this with my similar setup. Thanks for sharing !

      A pleasure! I will also be posting a video about my custom film holder for 120 format 6x6 film--the one from Valoi is lacking, in my opinion. The metal parts of their gear are excellent, and 3D printing lets us make up for the shortcomings of the other bits.

    Very nice.. Thanks for sharing the info. I currently use a film scanner flat bed style.. Epson .. Its good if you scan at a pretty high res in its raw hd format.. Kinda like you are doing but scanning the neg instead of taking a picture of it.. Then you import the high res negative image and convert that using what ever software you wish.. I tried the included software and using all the fancy digital ice stuff and well it kinda sucked lol. Its more steps the way I do it using Silverfast and Lightroom but the results I get people have told me they like the end results better from my scans and edits then they have seen from most labs and I kinda have to agree. I think the only real serious scanning method is like a drum scanner and for smaller prints and social media posting the methods I do now work fine .. If at a latter time I find a negative that I just love the image and want it printed at a large size then maybe I would find a place that can scan the negative with a drum scanner and give me the higher resolution image from it.. I also bought an enlarger and have that on hand but its a older one made for black and white.. In order to use it with color I would have to buy colored plastic filter sheets and stack them on top of each other in the tray area of my enlarger but it can be done .. I will be developing and scanning a large batch of black and white rolls in the near future and I very well may try my hand at doing some dark room prints with that vintage enlarger :). If it goes well ill let you know.. I can share where I post my film based photos too if you would like?

      I was looking into flat bed scanners, but decided to try hunting with what I brought, and did research to see if my Fujifilm XPro2 could do digital scans. As it turns out, it is good enough for everything I do with photography--rarely do I print physical photos--so I'm happy with it. It takes me about 2 minutes to scan a roll...then an hour to type in all of the metadata. Using Negative Lab Pro in Lightroom, nothing more. I haven't tried color negs yet, so the jury is still out on that.
      I envy you being able to do real paper prints with an enlarger--that's where half of the art is, doing real dodging and burning and so on. I'd have to give up something else (like the machine shop) for the space, so I'll have to settle for scanned negatives for now.
      Anything that is worth printing, I'll send to a lab to be drum scanned.
      Post your links! It's always cool to see others' work.

      @@TadTadd I have tried twice to tell you where I post my images and both times they seem to poof.. I can not see the responses I posted with the info.. Can you still message people on UA-cam? If so send me a personal message and I can try and send you a link from there.

      Looks like that feature disappeared some time back. I remember using the messaging feature in the past, but they must have decided it was too much overhead or trouble to maintain. No worries! I bet your photos are awesome--if they are film, they must be great.

    Hi! This is just what I was looking for to build my own copy stand. But I have a question, how did you attach the Arca adapter to the module... and if you are reusing the Valoi stand fixation to the column?

    • @TadTadd
      @TadTadd  2 місяці тому +1

      I used a 1/4-20 socket head cap screw with a washer to come through the back side and attach the Arca adapter, just like if it were held on to a tripod. There isn't much room to swing the hex wrench but it worked.
      I reused the original T-nut and spring-loaded handle to secure the square portion of the part on Valoi's extruded aluminum bar.

      @@TadTadd Thank you very much, I will write down the features for my future project. Very good job on the 3D support adaptation.
