Not only did we have the Monster Raving Loony Party standing candidates, we also have "Count Binface", and the lesser known superhero, "Baked Bean Man".
As an Australian UK resident - politics in the UK is in a MUCH healthier place than the US.
The UK government has been apathetic and incompetent - the US is flirting with malevolence.
Also the populace just is nowhere near as divided. The prevailing situation with the voters in the UK is volatile - they vote one way in big numbers and then the opposite way next time. Whereas 90% of the US couldn’t countenance voting the other way and so it all comes down to how much of your 45% you can get to the polls and how many of the 10% you can get.
The US has a lot of inbuilt economic advantages over the UK but I have a lot more faith that the UK won’t fall apart.
The uk is far more sly and sneaky with how they're screwing the country. The us just don't care to hide it anymore

Jonathan Pie did do a spoof documentary for the BBC in the UK on US politics called Jonathan Pie's American Pie where he went around the USA talking to voters on their political allegiance just before the 2016 US Presidential Election. He talked to some proper banjo playing hillbillies that kept it in the family that does not show the USA in a good light talking about voting for Trump..... It's about an hour long but I can't find the full version on UA-cam though just clips. You might be able to get it elsewhere. Very Funny.

I used to live in Margaret Thatcher's constituency. I voted for Screaming Lord Such, Monster Raving Looney Party, just to embarass her, well that and his policies of wearing your underwear over the top of your trousers, and free lollipops of course.
Boris Johnson famously decided he didn't want to talk to Piers Morgan when Piers was hosting Good Morning Britain in 2019 during that election, that Boris in a factory walked into a fridge to avoid answering questions from Piers Morgan. This is true and it is on UA-cam

Folk like Jonathon Pie play a critical role in our democracy, without them highlighting the absurdity of ruling structures and their behaviour I dread to think what we may have become. The English are the most violent and warlike culture in Human history, without methods of tempering our instincts it is fairly likely we would have made Hitler seem like a peace-monger by comparison.
Pie is the alter ego and creation of comedian Tom Walker. Pie is a frustrated roving news reporter out in the field, take it from there. All his rants are offline, as the newsfeed goes to a new story.

I left the Labour Party the day Starmer praised Thatcher in an article in the Torygraph. Pie is spot on.

I couldn't stand Blair for the same reason. Thatcher is the one reason the country has been in a slow downwards spiral ever since.

I got speaking to a guy in a pub one night, and he spoke some of the most sensible words ive ever heard about society, politics and all that. turned out he was the local monster raving loony party member.
He’s name isn’t Jonathon Pie. He is an actor and jp is a character he plays (a political corespondent for the BBC). He’s real name is Tom Walker. Apart from being a socialist, the character Jonathon Pie is quite different from Tom Walker (As far as I can tell from his interviews)

I never liked Blair either - he always reminded of a double glazing salesman...
His speech giving, everything about him, I despised from the outset. He got Labour elected with essentially rebranded conservatism. New Labour was a pisstake and unfortunately I was just too young to vote in that election, however, there really wasn't an alternative. So I likely would have voted for him. I really did want Gordon Brown though, no charisma, and I loved him for the hot mic about "why did you let that racist old bitch talk to me?"

Screaming Lord Sutch was a 'pop' artist in the late 60s, almost the British Alice Cooper of the day, and moved into politics later on, keeping our tradition of parties which highlight the theatre and buffoonery which is the true heart of politics everywhere, because most politicians are just people who want to be politicians, instead of people who totally understand the minutae of the mechanisms of politics, and how and why A or that B to happen to allow C to help grow the economy etc etc.
I miss the days when critical thinking was commonplace.
He wasn't a Lord, either. Plain David Sutch. Successfully lobbied the govt to reduce voting age from 21 to 18. Forced the BBC to get into the 60's creating the first legal pop station, Radio One.

The absolute best Jonathan Pie rant was when he was posing as a new special UK correspondent for the New York Times, describing Boris Johnson. An absolute masterpiece, and I'm going to watch it again after this video. Just beautiful; went through the awkward motions of explaining British terms to his imaginary American facilitator, and acting delightfully ignorant of some American flexibilities, like that of calling politicians liars in the media.
Politics is just a game that we all participate in, you support one team or the other and get whipped up into hysteria when they face off.
Although I’m happy that Starmer won - Westminster is too cosy with both sides getting a turn to govern and that is how they like it.
Any change in politics should be real change - that will not come in my lifetime, but it must do at some point in the future.
This guy says out loud what most of us feel….for sure he rants(he’s a world class ranter) but he echoes the frustrations from all of us. Very funny thoughts that has us rolling around as well as agreeing with what he says about both sides.
I agree that his take on US politics would be pure gold…hopefully he can make that happen.

For me, the US equivalent of Jonathan Pie, was the absolutely brilliant Bill Hicks. Funny, but very true.

Just provide some perspective from a UK resident. Most people here are very glad to now have a boring but serious Prime Minister in Keir Starmer. There's a lot of poking fun at his seriousness, and lack of charm, but people are broadly agreed that after 14 years of the right win government, the grown ups are now back in charge. Also this new version of Labour is not leftist, it's squarely centrist, and that's a deliberate choice by the party. Some on the left are of course disappointed that Labour is now a centrist party.
By the way Jonathan Pie does cover some Northern America news when he does his videos for The New York Times.

It's rather telling of either the mindset or paid commenters that the conservatives rant reaction didn't get a bunch of "vote labour" comments, but this got several "vote reform" before anyone could have fully watched it.

@@BradTheThird I voted first thing this morning, and in truth, despite not wanting the conservatives back in, I might have been tempted to vote for my local conservative MP, again, as he has been pretty good. Unfortunately they changed the constituency lines, and even if I was very fond of him, he makes no sense now
