  • Adjusted the enrichener cables. Synced and adjusted the carbs out. The number three carb had its slide really high and wasn’t connected to its cable. Enrichener circuit is improving with Sea Foam mixed in the fuel.
    Video on iPhone 14 ProMax.
Test ride was impromptu down my dirt road so no GoPro footage and total squid attire.

Hello from Wales, I had a KH500 which felt like it was going backwards, compared to the earlier models. Mine was then ported to an extreme level, making it a terrible town bike but getting rid of the intake gubbins, jetting up and fitting pistons with shorter skirts was a mod I recall from a motorcycle magazine way back when.
    Have a good 2024.

Thank you Michael. Happy 2024 to you also. I ended the year with it running perfectly. Very nice riding. But you know how it is. I’m experimenting with a richer pilot and main jet out of curiosity for next summer. Also toying with running either Delkevic or Higgspeed chambers in the future. No need for me to chase more power really as it will never come close to the modern bikes I’ve raced, but she does make me smile and laugh while riding her.

I have a 1975 H1 that I just put a rebuilt crankshaft in during the rebuild. I had a problem on the initial start up with no fuel getting into combustion chamber. I was trying to start with air filters not on carbs. After I installed the air filters the bike started right up. I guess a small amount of air restriction helped the fuel pull into the carbs and combustion chamber better. After reading your replies putting the petcock lever in the up position to fill the carbs first then turning to run is what I will do from now on. I put some expansion chambers on mine. Nothing like the sound of a triple two stroke with chambers. Your H1 looks great.

I’ve had my carbs off this winter. Went up a step on the pilots and mains. Finally decided to put her back together this week and fired over on the 6th kick from empty carbs. We found some new Higgspeeds tucked away in a friends shop last weekend while cleaning it out. They’ll be going on the bike very soon.

I’ve been wrenching rebuilding & restoring H1’s since the early 70’s & when properly tuned they normally take 1 kick to start if sitting 1-3days with not start & 3-3kicks ti start when sitting more then 3 days again which carbs properly setup.
The oem petcock works/open up to let gas into carbs by vacuum coming from motor tuning which is why it only starts on 1 cyl then 29 kicks later get enough gas for a second cyl to cut in & then after that the 3rd cyl unless you 1st use the prime function on the petcock to fill all 3 carbs prior to starting the bike which I’m 99.5% sure is the issue your having.
Also.when I got my current 74h1 out of winter storage of 5 months I thought installed the battery, turned petcock on to prime carbs with fuel & after sitting in winter storage 5 moths it started in 3 kicks & tan like it was it was ridden a few days ago.
One thing I didn’t see you do prior to trying to start the bike is turn petcock to the or or prime position to 1st fill the carbs with fuel prior to trying to start it. That’s why it runs fine once you get it started for the day & it’s not dirty carbs etc like you think causing the cold start issue,it’s you not first using prime position on petcock to fill all carbs up prior to cold start that’s the problem here & noting else!(not dirty carbs or clogged cold start enrichment system at all!)
But if you already primed the carbs with fuel & it takes more then a few kicks to start something is not right which is coming from my 5 decades 1st hand Exp wrenching & rebuilding Kawi triples & big fours (900’s & 1000’s)
    Good luck…Scott

Thanks Scott. I’ve got her sorted now and she fires first kick even after sitting for a few days now. She runs perfect but I pulled the carbs to get them in the correct order and am trying richer pilots and mains out of curiosity.

The one thing that I remember about my Kawasaki triples, is they always stated first kick, even at high mileage. I really appreciate and loved them and paid the money and made sure that they were serviced by Rick at lowfield heath Kawasaki Gatwick.

My 71 also started first kick cold. I need to take the carbs off and go through them. The enricheners were frozen but freed up now. But I’m sure the circuits are still gummed up.

I have a 73 H-1 . After it's sits for couple da6s or even over winter, set the bike on center stand, turn fuel petcock to prime position to fill float bowls, and start it, usually 1-2 kicks and it's running, then turn petcock back to run position

That’s exactly what I do also. I made a small adjustment to the enrichener cable yesterday and she fired first kick. Took a first good ride to start tuning for the Highspeeds yesterday. Lots of laughing in my helmet lol.

@@tom1263 she start first kick cold or hot now. I had to really richen the air screw. The pilot jet that was in there was too small. In later videos I went up 1 size on the pilot.
