@ThePodgeAroo 232323 I'm not a professional, but I think it would probably be good to go to therapy anyways, even if it is a phase or you get better, because it could help you identify other problems, it could help change your environment, your outlook, etc. Even just having therapy as a kind of social support can be really great, I think.
      Edit: examples, grammar

I swear by this therapy style. I have BPD (and Bipolar type II) and I have been treated with schema therapy for about a year now. I started with high scores on all schema themes (the 18 themes) and am now down to very low on almost all of them. Schema therapy helped me understand not only my mental illness but create understanding towards myself and how I cope and conduct myself. I am on my way towards a steady recovery and do recommend schema therapy to anyone who is willing to dig deep and really get to the bottom of things. Find a therapist you can trust and go for it, recovery is possible!

From high on all 18 to very low on almost all of them. Wow... That's great. While I'm sure you've had great help, you're the one who did the heavy lifting. Well done!

    • @Annaputta
      @Annaputta 4 роки тому +2

Seems like with BPD, one is likely to score high on all of them. As someone I gave the questionnaire from Reinventing Your Life said, "I've got full score!"

I was in my 13th year of therapy with my 8th therapist before schema therapy was presented as a possible option for me and have made more progress in the last 2 years than the 13 before, combined. I absolutely believe that all therapy is a process, but working and struggling for that long without having the tools to actually understand or make changes is incredibly disheartening and discouraging, as you said. Hearing the words, "We're not making progress, I don't think I can help you." from even one therapist is crushing and it doesn't get easier. I know there are so many people out there who have been there and could use the tools and adaptability schema therapy provides to start/continue their process. Thank you for taking the time to make such a comprehensive introduction to schema therapy, it desperately needs more exposure. It is complicated but you always do such a great job of structuring the information so that it is digestible :)
I hope you don't mind, but I was hoping to share a bit of feedback/suggestions? I've noticed your attention to making sure we have the basic info to build off of when learning something potentially new in previous videos you've created and can't tell you how grateful I am for it. What I noticed today was that I found myself wishing the concepts/details you were listing, or calling back to, were actually written on the screen. This may just be a Me thing as I am a visual learner and often have difficulty taking in a lot of information in a short period verbally but where this is a subject I am pretty well versed in but still struggled to keep up, I thought it was worth mentioning in case it was useful to others as well. Thank you again!

Thank you for making a video about schema therapy. It's really weird that such a great and deep therapy method is not well known. I believe its because this therapy method requires a very talented therapist. I tried many therapists and many of them has a shallow CBT approach. Even one therapist who studied schema therapy didn't choose to use it. But my current therapist is great. She believes in schema therapy deeply and loves being a therapist. I made so much progress thanks to her and schema therapy. I hope this therapy method gets more popular with your video.

Interesting to note that schema therapy has been around long before it was given the label as such. It is how countless clinicians carried out their therapies. (Integrating various therapy modalities into a personalized treatment plan for each client) great video!!

My therapist and I tried this form of therapy with me early on in my recovery. It wasn’t harmful for me to do it and it made me really look at the way I look at and talk to myself. For me it wasn’t this key therapy that “cured” me or “uncovered” something huge. To be honest, I didn’t really feel like it fit me well. However, going through it helped me to get to know and trust my therapist more so that I could be more open and feel safe enough to share more about my past. I think even therapeutic approaches that don’t exactly work perfectly can be beneficial if you have the right therapist.

I just finished part 3 of a schema therapy workshop offered by my local mental health services here in British Columbia, and I've realized so much about what's at the root of my issues. It was also helpful for identifying what may be behind certain other peoples' behaviour towards me. I wish this therapy was more widely available. Unfortunately, the facilitator for the workshop is the only person in the province to be trained in schema therapy.

Well explained thank you. I’m just starting out on schema therapy and it’s resonating with me and explains a lot and I feel like instead of not knowing why I feel suicidal when friends don’t include me in their plans I know now what schema is being triggered here, why I react so intensely and how to come to a more healthier way of thinking and therefore react differently and therefore live a less intense and more peaceful way that allows me to feel joy again.

Schema therapy is helping a lot. I address the little girl inside me that was neglected and abused, found that there was also shame attached because, looking back. I was so sorry that my mother who was neglecting me had to face herself. I internalized the shame I thought she would feel when she found out I had disappeared as a toddler and was brought back to our apartment by a stranger. Shame became a theme in my life vicariously! I carry it now because I got married to a narcissist. My core shame is that I had those kids with him and couldn’t protect them properly. The truth is my kids are fine. Shame desolves when spoken about says Brene Brown. Doing some digging through the lens of schema helped me trace where all those negative thought, emotional and behaviors were coming from.

I was given a course of schema therapy on the NHS and really learnt alot about patterns of behaviour and how the emotions are triggered by my negative core beliefs. I think it's a great tool to have, especially for anyone suffering with anxiety or depression and even just in general, it can really help you to see the reasons for the never ending cycle of rubbish in your head and help you to break that pattern. I was however later diagnosed with CPTSD and the therapist wasn't able to help me with the traumas, but being the NHS it was an 18month wait for CBT, so instead i now have a private therapist who specialises is ISTDP (intensive short term dynamic psychotherapy) it's not like any therapy I've ever had or heard of and she's very challenging, i would love your take on this type of therapy kati. Thanks so much for continuing to create these videos, i have learnt soooo much from you and anything that helps end the stigma behind mental health is truly amazing! Xxx

Schema therapy followed by mindfulness based cognitive behavioral therapy helped me with my dysthymia aka chronic depression. My therapist recommended reading the self-help book based on the therapy first so that I could take more of an active role in my therapy. I believe the book is called Reinventing Your Life and it's author is the therapist who created the therapy Jefferey Young. In the book schemas are called lifetraps.

    • @vinercent215
      @vinercent215 5 років тому

@@livelifelove2xx245 I am not familiar with three chairs. What my therapist an me did was to set up two chairs, I was seated in one, the other was empty. I would imagine a person or character of myself to sit in the other chair (for imersion I described the appearence and posture of the imagination) and start a conversation with that person.
After a time I would switch seats, immerse myself in the other person and answer to what I said in the other seat.
We did this with people I could not constructively talk to (Mother, ex-girlfriend,...) or "people" it was impossible to talk to like aspects of my personality.
This was extremely rough and exhousting, but immensely helpful.

Love the video! I would love to know more about "Hero Worship" in fields like the arts when people are starting out with a teacher and begin to worship them and start a sort of tunnel vision towards only them. Sometimes this goes to the teachers head and can cause problems for both the teacher and student down the road ie: overcontrolling, being mean in lessons, etc. In my instance were getting a lot of people coming to our channel and in lessons talking about their previous relationships with teachers that had "hero worship" tendencies and we don't know how to approach that so they can move on and get better. Hope this makes sense as this is a huge growing dilemma in the arts.

I think I can use some of that. This reminded me of getting an in-school suspension once at 10 yrs old when I said I was gonna do it (I’m not feeling like that now) but I remember being shamed by people at the school in a way and they just told me to do work and left me in the principals office instead of helping me at all and even my parents didn’t comfort me much and I don’t know if I even saw a therapist right away. I’m 16 and now thinking about it it looks like it affected me for years and I didn’t even notice! It pretty much left this dent in me where I don’t want to ask for help since I will be shamed by people and I think they won’t help me but I’ll feel worse. I’m even feeling down again but I’m afraid to ask for help as I don’t want to be shamed and I’m not seeing someone right now.. sorry this was long but I’m wondering what to do. They said we literally make a "schema" (it's Dutch for a content table) on paper for a GGGG-schema. Gebeurtenis (event), Gedachte (thought), Gevoel (feeling) and Gevolg (consequence). So you fill in what happened, what you thought right after, what that made you feel, and what the consequence is. Then they point out that it's your thought process about the event that made you feel negative, and not the event, which then in turn caused the consequence. They then point out that our thoughts can shape how we deal with events, so the answer lays within our thoughts. They then ask to think of a helpful thought.
I asked what I could possibly think that would make getting severely bullied, abused even, by not just my classmates, but a large portion of the school and even some teachers... what could make being constantly so terribly sick I can hardly get up most days and doctors don't even believe me (I now, 10 years later, know I have Crohn's Disease)... Having the school tell me they don't know how to help me, so I'll have to figure it out... I asked what thought could possibly help me through this.
They said 'I'm still here, so I must be strong.' I said 'well true, but that's not changing anything.' Therapist: 'But you felt better, right? See? Your thought made your feeling better.' Me: 'And tomorrow I'll be getting kicked off my bike again, but sure.' Therapist: 'Now, that wouldn't be a helpful thought, now would it?'
This is how schema therapy was offered to me multiple times. I felt discredited and completely abandoned. I was being physically and emotionally abused, and got told my thoughts about it were the real problem here...
Schema therapy has therefore gotten to be part of my trauma triggers...
The way schema therapy is explained in this video seems way different though. It even seems to touch on imaginative rescripting, which I'm doing now and am really positive about.
    I'm so confused...
Kati help put this into context for me please... Was I lied to? Was the therapist confused? Am I confused? I don't get it anymore... :(

I know your comment is from a year ago, so maybe you have had this question answered already.
What you’re referring to is called the “G-schema” in Dutch. This is part of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which is a different kind of therapy from Schema therapy. Ik begrijp je verwarring though :)
And I’m sorry to hear you received such shitty therapy!

@@jamesjasonallen4168 I have asked around since, and every therapist and psychologist I meet tells me the G-schema is part of DBT and Schema Therapy. My current psychologist did tell me that it was used way wrongly with me, as it's not supposed to be used for an ongoing abusive situation, or for trauma that mostly needs processing.
I'm still confused about Schema Therapy though...

Everyone needs therapy in their life, but not everyone's brave enough to admit it. Don't be afraid of going, therapists are super nice and it means you get a judgement free place to vent! Go for it! X

Great you brought up inner voice and challenging our inner voices beliefs about ourselves. Following that belief to its original conception in our past to its root cause. It is a favorite technique, I use self examples to share and help others.

So greatful to hear you talk about it ! 🙏 💕💕
The first time I was introduces to the term "Schema " was when I was preparing a paper about place making as homework for ( urban design theory subject )
Theorist and architect Shulze, introduced it in his book ( Genius Loci : phenomenology of architecture, 1979 ), where he explained how the place should meet the belonging needs of children and create healthy schematic effect on him as a child to reflect well on his identity and place identity in the future .
I was linking your topic with that the whole time that I had to rewach the video again,
Its realy intresting topic when related to psychology and therapy ..
I wish you could further explain in future videos how the environment affects schemas generation ( from psychological point of view ) because I feel that there is a need for such discussions now a days more than ever with children disconected from natural or outside environment ..
Thank you very much for your work it's really inspirational and beneficial to watch what you create here 💕

I'm currently getting schema therapy and it's been a lot more helpful than what I've experienced before. The type of SFT I'm getting is mainly mode-focused. Thinking in modes really gives me a way to describe what is going on. Could you do a more indepth video on the different schema-modes? And a question for you personally, would SFT be a therapy you would want to specialize in?

Schema therapy shows different modes contain different feelings and behaviors. One mode would contain anger and another mode would contain feelings of emptiness, and so on. The patient identify these modes in therapy and use specific cognitive strategies for each mode. The sluice for learning opens in high affective states so the patient becomes aware of the mode and use the cognitive strategies taught to them by the therapist to confront & deal with the affect associated with the specific mode. It allows the patient to identify the moment they are triggered and if they are feeling punitive, abandoned, angry, impulsive, detached and they use specific cognitive strategies to combat that mode.
