I don’t mind the hustle. You’re a reseller, you gotta make a living. And I understand making deals at cons, it’s what everyone does. Honestly disappointed in your insistance for that discount. There was no need to keep pestering them just so you could make a few more bucks at the end of the day.
If he doesn't buy something unless it's discounted then he literally can get a discount on everything he buys. These negotiations are 2 way, he doesn't have to buy something and someone doesn't have to sell to him.
I woulda raised the price If he asked one more time. Games are most peoples hobby, not living. Therefore I wouldn’t need to sell or care how much he bought from me.
Caleb, I have been a fan of yours for a while now because I typically like the content you put out. However, this video has rubbed me the wrong way as it seems it has with many others as well. These people are trying to make a living just like you are and yet you are constantly bombarding them asking for 30% discounts or getting sad when they tell you a price that's $5 more than what you were wanting to hear. And continuously asking for a discount even though the vendor has said no multiple times, to the point of faking backing out of the purchase at the literal last second, is incredibly sleezy and scumming in my opinion. (Especially as you only asked for $20 off in the end). Once again, I typically like you and your videos but your actions at this convention were quite atrocious.
Dude he wasn’t faking backing out. He said he was only having second thoughts about not buying the 3rd game. Meaning he was thinking he should just buy the 3rd anyways. Listens to what he says and you’ll see Thats the case. “Having second thoughts about this other one” is the exact wording he used. He was saying he forsure buying the 2 game but wasn’t sure if he should just add the 3rd. Easy mistake hearing it wrong though I get it.
People like this are the reason why the “hobby” is dead. Now it’s all these people who’ve only shown up in the gaming communities in the last couple of years making it all about money.
Probably because he was boing roasted in the comment section. I noticed on some of his other grading videos he turned the comments off. That’s never a good sign lol
Am I the only one that finds graded games ugly as hell and just not worth the money? Seeing those games sitting on my shelf with uneven numbers like 8.6 or 9.8 in big clunky boxes, groooooss. Much rather just have the sealed games alone.
Typically a fan but this video was really cringe ngl. Running around essentially begging like that and forcing it is hard to watch. This might turn into one of those un-sub channels in a few more videos.
As someone who enjoyed your game hunting videos primarily I think I’m done after this video. I know these videos are recorded a month in advance but the obsession with sealed games just feels so scummy to watch. If you actually wanted to look like you heard your subscribers after the WATA backlash you’d probs cool off on these types of videos. That paired with your pretty lackluster WATA response of: they’re an immoral company I don’t think I’ll partner with them but I’m still gonna use them is just really off putting.

Wow, no cap. Watching his desire to get Mario paper and Zelda. About to cash out to then be like “wait, I’m having second thoughts” ask again for a least 20 off… dude! They have to eat too!
It’s like a lot of these re-sellers think that sellers should price they’re items specifically for them to make money on, it really annoys me when they give them a price and they’re like “that’s not leaving me with too much meat on the bone” ?? That’s your problem not the sellers, seems a bit entitled and self centred to me
This dude is going to end up getting blackballed at the conventions. No one will want to do business with him. If anything these vendors will receive negative response from customers and other vendors for selling to him. Most of these vendors are actual gamers who enjoy the hobby, and are aware that this specific UA-camr is one of the main contributers to the current market craziness going on. And that "Can you do $20 off to help me sleep at night" was absolute cringe.
As a fellow reseller, I think asking for a discount is fine if it's justified, but if you have to ask multiple times I'm not sure it's the best move... Maybe if you're buying 10+ games sure, but really not if you're only buying 2-3. I try to price most of my stuff on the low end of eBay, but lately it does feel like you are trying to milk every last dollar you can out of strangers. IDK
Without resellers, where are you getting games from? Would you say that GameStop, Vintage Stock, etc. (resellers) are unneeded as well? If there are no resellers, then no one would have any games to buy. By definition we all are resellers if you've sold one game. If your grievance is with high-volume resellers, then I point you back to my first sentence.
@@leeartlee915 That's not where I source my stuff, so I can't really comment on that I guess. I was more responding to the comment that "the hobby doesn't need you"

Being in sales for YEARS, this is super annoying. This is the worst case of “what’s in it for me” I’ve seen in a long time. I like this channel, but these people have to pay for their spot at the convention, pay for their inventory, pay transaction fees when it isn’t cash, and have to pack up every night, then setup their display again everyday they’re there. Trying to get juice from a rock is not negotiating. I’ll stay subbed for now, but this video was so irritating.
Great way to get blacklisted in these communities my guy, I can understand asking for a discount here and there on bulk prices, but you doing it every time kinda pushes it. The cringe started early for me with the Spider-man and GTA deal, the guy flat told you he marked them down the morning of and that he feels its fair (giving you a red flag to stop pushing) and you throw in, "...well should I come back in the afternoon?" then proceed to set your own discount.
Yup, I'm sticking with Retro Rick and Pixel Game squad. Retro Rick isn't poor but I'm also assuming he's not rich by the way he reacted to his newly graded game with a guess of maybe 20k to be made, he still doesn't want to sell because of the scandal. Thats called integrity.
@@moses11685 but what’s the issue? Thst WATA is allegedly engaging in market manipulation and he chooses to continue to use them? He’s taking a risk for even sending his games to wata to begin with to flip considering the attention right now. @@Ret_Chrogames I feel like in the long run, it hurts more than helps the actual consumer. Whats happening not only manipulates the prices on these sealed games but could damage the perceived value of pre owned games. "This common game is more than it was last year because , didn't you see a sealed one of these went for X amount in auction?" Hope my point makes sense.
@@moses11685 I don’t agree with this. My take is about 90% of the reason why game prices have gone up is because so many people have gotten into the retro game collecting hobby and are going out snd buying up lots and bundles, even those thst they already have, and are turning around and flipping them on eBay to “fund more for their collection.” The result of thst is when you and I go to swap meets or garage sales, everything has been picked over and all we have left are resellers asking ebay prices. I’ve been collecting since 2010 when we use to buy what we need and leave behind what we don’t, but those days are long over. The sealed/graded scene sure can affect the market, but it’s mostly the collector/resellers entering the market - setting eBay prices - and now mom and pops are checking eBay and pricing accordingly. The same collectors/resellers want to justify this by claiming to be collectors (which they are) but scoff at the fact that they are also resellers..
This channel is starting to bother me. I realllllly don't like the way you talk to people or do business. You also falsely advertise what is shared on your Discord. Almost none of the information you claim to provide is ever actually shared by you or anyone at all for that matter.
I am a long time subscriber and I usually enjoy your videos but as someone who has worked in retail I have to say on this one you were really pushing it with the discounts. If you were my customer and pulled that $20 off at the end of transaction after asking multiple times I would refuse the sale even at full price .
This guy asked if he can negotiate the price on the Zelda game like a million times and he said he’s pretty firm and asked him so many times after that lol
Seeing him boast at the end of his “bargaining”, if you can even call it that, how he kept begging for a discount and how it paid off because they were getting annoyed with him asking on repeat really just made me cringe

Look at at his face lol don't get me wrong tho I still watch the Content lol
I like Phoenix...but it's super awkward watching him just scan labels to catch these guys slipping. I mean this mans been doing this for awhile now, you can tell values by now?
For antiques I can understand memory, but for sealed games, the market is so volatile and changes by the day. You can’t really memorize prices with this bubble we’re in.
Perhaps I'd go about things more old school or manually search stuff but scanning barcodes seems almost too efficient. I'd carry around a small notebook or something with completed prices for the main titles I'm looking for
@@cvz1230 volatile? Name a game worth something that had an incredible dip. I have never lost a significant amount of money on a game. The ones that did dip, earned its value back over a short time

Mostly enjoy the sealed pick ups tbh rather than opened / complete in box so this video was a good one but to echo a few of the early comments I see here yeah, people are aware you're using them as a stepping stone for a profit so as I said in another comment on a separate video, don't push so much for discounts because you know 6-12 months you're getting a good deal anyway and you're dealing with other resellers / collectors who know the true value and so there's not as much wiggle room as a chain store or yard sale
Caleb you’re becoming the type of UA-camr no one wants to support. If a vendor respectfully tells you they have prices firm, don’t pull sleazy moves when you’re already inserting your credit card. I totally get that you would like discounts like we all do, but what you were doing was pushy and rude.

Honestly, I have been feeling the same way. I don't like him and have only been watching for the game hunting...now he only seems to care about sealed games and his sense of entitlement is too much for me. I'm gonna go watch others like Retro Rick.
Normally a big fan of your content, but asking for a discount 3/4 times just seems rude. Don't know if that's okay in US though
It's not rude to ask. They are vendors, nothing stopping them from saying no.

Not rude the first time...but 4 time xD
After watching this video, I think i started to see why some real game collector who have a real passion about video games hate resellers.
I don’t mind the hustle. You’re a reseller, you gotta make a living. And I understand making deals at cons, it’s what everyone does. But DAMN, that Zelda exchange was cringe. $20 discount after repeatedly saying no, right before you give your card and had already agreed to buy? That’s awkward to watch. And it was $20 only. You should have cut that out. Makes you look so bad. Especially since you just want to grade these games and ride that fake hype. That was disappointing.
He thought he was slick by not putting his credit card at the last second. He and the dealer had already agreed on the terms and he conned the vendor as a last second trick
@@One-12937 the funny part is those dudes had no idea who he was.
You do realise this is business/ reseller channel not a charity channel. In business there is always a risk, the goal is to lower your risk with every purchase. I think you need to take some business lessons or go out and do it yourself then try bitching. Also, why are you even watching this if you hate it so much??? Your life decisions make me cringe.
@@John-or7zh he talks about “morals” and Christian values but FUCKEN pushes it like a kid at a Walmart not getting what he wants. Legit right before getting charged he still pushed the “come on give me a discount” like wtf. That’s not business, that’s being a unethical and being a bitch

"actually, i'm having second thoughts. can you give me $20 off?"
"as a matter of principle, like, i'm spending $1000 with you and you're not going to give me a single dollar off?"
"do you have any wiggle room on this? for an old friend?"
"if you could get me to 30% off $160..would $110 be pushing it too much?"
"it wouldn't have to have a big discount...."
"i'm gonna see if i can play the friend card to get a discount"

Honestly disappointed in your insistance for that discount. There was no need to keep pestering them just so you could make a few more bucks at the end of the day.
People like you are the reason the prices for retro games are through the roof
Dudes gotta realize he can’t get a discount on everything he buys 😂
Never hurts to ask
@@mikeing36 Asking is okay... Continiuesly nagging is NOT.
He hates paying retail. Lol
If he doesn't buy something unless it's discounted then he literally can get a discount on everything he buys. These negotiations are 2 way, he doesn't have to buy something and someone doesn't have to sell to him.
The whole community knows about him. Just another flipper trying to push hobby to fund daily living until he calls it quits and moves onto next
I woulda raised the price If he asked one more time. Games are most peoples hobby, not living. Therefore I wouldn’t need to sell or care how much he bought from me.
....
Well said bro, you explain that perfect
Dude he wasn’t faking backing out. He said he was only having second thoughts about not buying the 3rd game. Meaning he was thinking he should just buy the 3rd anyways. Listens to what he says and you’ll see Thats the case. “Having second thoughts about this other one” is the exact wording he used. He was saying he forsure buying the 2 game but wasn’t sure if he should just add the 3rd. Easy mistake hearing it wrong though I get it.
He thinks people NEED to give him a discount lmao.
I was thinking the same
People like this are the reason why the “hobby” is dead. Now it’s all these people who’ve only shown up in the gaming communities in the last couple of years making it all about money.
i guess they kinda caught up to his flippin wii sports between booths now lol.
Him being a reseller, that was a baller move. But still kinda sleezy.
Why did you remove your Wata response video?
Dude just cares about views and profits and that video showed that
Probably because he was boing roasted in the comment section.
Hi, can you tell me about that wata thing? I didn't understand it. Thanks!

Everyone uses each other. That's how the world works. Its extremely dysfunctional
I don't know. Maybe I am just reading this wrong but it seems like you're becoming more entitled, especially with your explanation when you were discussing your purchases at the table. Just an observation and it's not meant to bring you down.
Wow, no cap. Watching his desire to get Mario paper and Zelda. About to cash out to then be like “wait, I’m having second thoughts” ask again for a least 20 off… dude! They have to eat too!
I’m glad people are calling out this guy on his tactics. I’ve thought they were annoying and pushy for a long time.
It’s like a lot of these re-sellers think that sellers should price they’re items specifically for them to make money on, it really annoys me when they give them a price and they’re like “that’s not leaving me with too much meat on the bone” ?? That’s your problem not the sellers, seems a bit entitled and self centred to me
The issue is that these vendors will always end up giving discounts anyway. They should be firm and refuse to drop the price by even a single dollar.
I hope conventions are told about this so he can get banned from future conventions

As he should
You'd be the guy on marketplace who I'd block after 1 conversation.
One sided ass deals for sure 🤣
As a fellow reseller, I think asking for a discount is fine if it's justified, but if you have to ask multiple times I'm not sure it's the best move... Maybe if you're buying 10+ games sure, but really not if you're only buying 2-3. I try to price most of my stuff on the low end of eBay, but lately it does feel like you are trying to milk every last dollar you can out of strangers. IDK
if you call yourself a "reseller" you are no better than this guy. The hobby doesn't need you
Without resellers, where are you getting games from? Would you say that GameStop, Vintage Stock, etc. (resellers) are unneeded as well? If there are no resellers, then no one would have any games to buy. By definition we all are resellers if you've sold one game. If your grievance is with high-volume resellers, then I point you back to my first sentence.
@@leeartlee915 That's not where I source my stuff, so I can't really comment on that I guess. I was more responding to the comment that "the hobby doesn't need you"

And it sounds like Karl Jobst had even more damning details around the Wata/HA garbage based on his last post on Twitter/UA-cam. I really respect Retro Rick for his stance on the Wata/HA situation.

Damn dude, are you forcing people to cut you a discount!?!?! Gtfoh……
He is a reseller we all do that pretty much
They don't have to agree to sell.
It's a mutual agreement. If not, then no transaction. Pretty easy to understand.
Well this is a resale channel and not a collecting channel...🤷♂️
@@Ret_Chrogames understood but integrity doesn't play a part in reselling?
@@moses11685 but what’s the issue? Thst WATA is allegedly engaging in market manipulation and he chooses to continue to use them? He’s taking a risk for even sending his games to wata to begin with to flip considering the attention right now. If he miscalculates, then he’s gonna get financially burned.. if there’s a demand, then he will make a profit. It’s the consumers right to choose how they want to spend their dollars.

For antiques I can understand memory, but for sealed games, the market is so volatile and changes by the day. You can’t really memorize prices with this bubble we’re in.

This is another level of annoying begging in life if your fair , fairness will return . You’re a reseller sure but begging at tables is different bro.
Saving this for when this video gets pulled down as well
Mostly enjoy the sealed pick ups tbh rather than opened / complete in box so this video was a good one but to echo a few of the early comments I see here yeah, people are aware you're using them as a stepping stone for a profit so as I said in another comment on a separate video, don't push so much for discounts because you know 6-12 months you're getting a good deal anyway and you're dealing with other resellers / collectors who know the true value and so there's not as much wiggle room as a chain store or yard sale
Caleb you’re becoming the type of UA-camr no one wants to support. If a vendor respectfully tells you they have prices firm, don’t pull sleazy moves when you’re already inserting your credit card.
