I'm sorry but subaru is getting greedy with their pricing... have we all just forgotten that a brand new VA wrx back in 2020 was $26k and a VA STI brand new was $36k? Then in 2022 the WRX all of a sudden became $35k? and a GT Trim is $47k? meanwhile a brand new VA STI limited fully specd was only $43k? This wrx ts is going to end up being like $50k 😂 subaru needs a serious slap to the face to remind them they're not BMW or Audi and asking nearly $50k for a car worth $25k is asinine...
100%. I wouldn't pay $1 over $32k for a fully loaded 2024 WRX.
We did it, Joe!
$50,000 is a sign that Subaru needs to bring back the STI. The STI on this current gen WRX's platform should be that price, not for a standard WRX.
The fact that Subaru allows the GT to be close to $50,000 at many dealerships in certain cities and states and the tS is going to be the exact same price as the GT is definitely where the ball was dropped.
Inflation my friends
@cedrica2392 idk..Biden admin keeps saying there is no inflation and that prices are actually lower than they were pre 2020 😂
A car that’s $40k plus and only 271HP is a slap in the face
Are you familiar with inflation
@@SL-jj3vdlol
These cars are getting hilarious. Every year they come out with some new more expensive "trim" that has yet to improve engine performance. Meanwhile a 2018 Mustang Ecoboost is still blowing all these cars out of the water from interior, to exterior, to performance and it came out 5+ years ago. Just get an Ecoboost and be better for cheaper
The WRX TS is no STI substitute. No hydraulic steering, no DCCD six speed, no wing and no rumble.
The S209 was the last ultimate expression of the STI.
forget hydraulic steering, that will not be back. I think we might see another WRX variant with a moded/tuned engine like the S209 with more HP and stuff, but no STI transmission and no DCCD. I think that variant will pop up as the last hurray before EV shows up.
@@johnl2613 If the present WRX came with all my stated features save the hydraulic steering it could have been badged an STI. Die hards would have bemoaned the loss of hydraulic steering but would have grudgingly accepted it.
Even with the atrociously bulbous rear bumper cover and civicest taillights lol.
@@johnl2613 Subaru should just contract prodrive to make it. Prodrive already have a 300hp new gen WRX that they built (idk why, testing or future release). If Subaru just backed that to let them put STI badge, Prodrive can build the final STI. Make it 400hp, but still relatively affordable (but it will still have a premium, naturally, given it's a Prodrive, but by cheap I mean realistic price figures for most enthusiasts, like 70k. And make it top tier, with unique features, it would prob be a future classic). And moving forward I hope prodrive do more restomods, like the P25. But for other gen STI's.
They definitely don’t want an STI 😭 idk if Toyota owning 20% of Subaru has anything to do with it and just wanting to market the GR Corolla…but cmon man all these WRX trims are unnecessary!!
You hit the nail on the head!
@chris5352 Toyota just owns shares in Subaru. Just like you can buy shares in Subaru. But it's not a merger or takeover type or relationship. I own a VB WRX. All it needs is the STi transmission to be better than any wrx/sti ever!
Facts.
You got the following trims:
1. Base
2. Premium
3. Limited
4. GT
5. TR
6. tS - which will replace TR
All these trims, but no STI. What sense does that make.
There is plenty of room for more enthusiast performance cars in the segment for the STI to be in on its VB generation with the Elantra N, GR Corolla, MK8/MK8.5 Golf R, FL5 Civic Type R, and DE5 Integra Type S. A VB WRX STI deserves it places in this world.
I'm not even a Subaru owner, and I'm not even a WRX or WRX STI hater, but even I'd buy a WRX STI on the current gen WRX platform if Subaru Asia in Japan and Subaru of America Inc would just build it.
Hell, I'm thinking about trading in my current car (my 2017 Chevrolet SS Sedan) for a used or pre-owned WRX STI of the last gen because I'm facing hardships to keep my car running, but trying to get it fixed up before I decide if I'm going to pull the trigger on doing so.
Yes, used cars and pre-owned cars do not justify sales to dealerships for all automotive manufacturers. Only new cars do. In the end, I stand with the STI community for Subaru to bring back the WRX STI right now for this current gen WRX's platform.
@@steve8803 no one said it’s a merger, but when another automotive manufacturer owns 1/5 of another companies shares, best believe they have influence over decisions made, especially when Toyota has a competing model. I think this is pretty much it for ICE WRX’s. Next gen is gonna have some sort of hybrid/electrification
@@chrisg5352 nope. Subaru operates independently. They have partnered on the BRZ/FRS, but Toyota has no say in what Subaru does. And really, the only thing that's preventing the VB wrx from being an STI is the transmission.
Japanese car companies can’t go a single day without ruining something people love. Pure incompetence
TS stands for "Additions you can do yourself for cheaper"
The up-Sell.
I used to own a 2015 STI and it was a great car, but the engine needed some upgrading from the factory to make it more stronger. The STI had a great transmission in it and the handling was top notch with that AWD system Subaru has. Overall my impressions with this new model is not really that great. I understand about the handling part, but of course like many have said the horsepower needs to be bumped up. If Subaru is trying to impress people with this new model, just make an STI model and don't settle for less than that. As far as price is concerned I think they really need to watch how they price these new WRX models. Just bring back a full STI with all the goods and then people will be coming back to the brand in a big way. Great review Joe!!
I’m glad I got my 2021 STI, I love it, and it only has 24,000 miles. Gonna hang on to her for awhile in the hopes Subie drops something special in the next few years🤷🏼♂️
You have a keeper! Don't hold your breathe!
Yeah, I almost didn’t buy my 19 because I thought the 22 STi would be something special…glad I didn’t wait. Sadly, I think the golden era of enthusiast cars is behind us, but at least you have one of the special ones!
Nice man. I got a 2020 WRX in WRB right as the pandemic hit. Like your STI, it only has 20k miles on it so I recently bought it off lease.
I still kick myself for not springing for the STI, but it was out of my price range at the time. Congrats on yours, enjoy it!
I also have a 2021, just hit 9,400 miles haha
Only 24? Do you even drive it 😂
A ceramic white one with those blue seats and gold brakes 🔥
Series.White WRX and Series.White WRX STI.
I'd go for that on this new gen platform if Subaru got their heads out of their asses and give back the WRX STI.
@@antoinelee-thomas9536 I agree. The color you are referring to is called “ceramic white” by Subaru . They also use the same color for the VB WRX currently
That STi logo in the cluster though 😂
Tell me about it!
As the owner of a '20 WRX I still like the previous gen styling. Those new recaro seats are fire though!
Hi Joe, Great early review of the new WRX tS. My 2024 WRB TR just rolled off the line with the STI Tuned Exhaust and short-throw shifter. The release of the tS had me thinking I should hold off, but I am going to buy the TR and plan to keep it long term. As you mentioned, the TR and really WRXs need the adaptive dampeners for the daily driver mode where you just don’t want to feel every bump.
The tS will most like have the STI Exhaust and short-throw shifter, but tack on another $1500.
I am loyal to Subaru, but they seem lost on getting the WRX just right. Moving the WRX to its own platform was a MAJOR plus. I was never a big fan of having the Grandpa Legacy souped up as an STI.
Subaru threatened to make the STI electric, but I am hopeful that enough Subie fans told them that was a dud from the start. If you want a fast electric car, it’s called a Tesla.
The last car on the planet that should become electric is the WRX. Yuck to electric.
WRX means Turbo, Manual and noisy!
Love your channel …. Keep the early release videos coming ….
Scot
Yea 45k is prob spot on if I had to guess too but if that’s holds true I just can’t justify it…not when other cars priced similarly have more features and power. Even the Elantra N with just about every same feature sans awd and brembos comes in around 10k less expensive. Nobody is besting the Elantra N for the money. All of that being said if this TS supplants the TR that I’m sure wasn’t well received at 42k without adaptive suspension, and they keep the price at 42k, then I might be able to get on board. Hopefully the transmissions are more beefy than the base model. Looking forward to seeing this in person!
I can’t wait to see how it drives
Joe's rules the world. One day you will break UA-cam and the Internet if and when a new wrx sti comes out. You are the greatest of all time Subaru WRX STI GUY!!
They just keep swinging and keep on missing 😂
I really don't understand why they just can't give the people what they want?
They're only delaying the inevitable.
It's making me not want to give Subaru my business. Who the hell is making these retarded decisions
@@RaitisRidesno one can afford nowadays and this pricing. 😅😅
Sadly
You totally read my mind. Love Subarus growing up. WRB still holds a soft spot. One of my dream cars is a 22b, more realistically a Type R. Have you driven one?
He owns a Type R
Just got my 2024 TR. amazing car, and worth every penny. There is nothing on the market that is as practical and performs as well as the WRX. Not the Corolla GR, not the Golf R, not an M3, nothing. The WRX is a sweet spot of being small, but not so small it’s impractical. It’s light, but rides nicely on the highway. Big trunk, great visibility, good fuel Econ, manual trans, cheap insurance, works in the snow, has great ground clearance. Seriously, is there a better sport sedan car out there as an all weather, people carrying, tow your own 6 speed!?!? Times have changed and there is no competition left. Everything is expensive now, and the WRX is still the cheapest of them all!
Congrats on the TR but I disagree. If I’m spending that amount of money on a top trim WRX, I am buying a Golf R. It’s more practical then an WRX (hatchback), gets better fuel economy(up to 30 mpg), interior is more modern & has more horsepower/torque.
@@TiberiumPieI disagree! The golf R is claustrophobic by comparison and has a tiny interior. The greenhouse in a WRX is far more practical and airy. Visibility is far superior. The back seats are cramped in the golf, it doesn’t have good ground clearance, and it is far more expensive than the WRX TR by almost $10k! The more power point is moot. In the real world they drove identically from a power perspective. Real world you don’t bang off 0-60 times. The WRX has better down low torque almost as of it doesn’t even have a turbo.
I might be getting one in the spring. Would you definitely recommend it?
The upgraded brakes to Brembo and adaptive suspension are definitely attractive features in a WRX. But the 19 inch rims that takes a tire of 245/35R19 is not good. The wheels are going to look like a motorcycle. It should have stayed with the 245/40R18 wheels.
Been waiting for your opinion on this Joe!
Thanks for being patient! I am glad that I can finally bring it to you!
Subaru Japan and Subaru of America both continue to be downright disappointing in giving people trims for the WRX that no one asks for. Who's asking for a tS version of the WRX? No one.
Subaru had a fully built production-ready vehicle to go with the WRX for an STI before that bombshell cancellation they did back in November 2022. You mean to tell me that Subaru can't up the performance on the FA24 to STI specs and let the STI Division do their part like they've always done or up the displacement to a 2.5T on the FA engine and let there be an FA25, the successor to the EJ25 and an FA25 is the only engine upgrade/displacement for the WRX STI and nothing else.
We don't care if it has the same exact fuel economy as the current WRX or 1 MPG in the city/highway/combined than the WRX. The STI was the WRX's bread and butter for the STI community for those who wanted to go all in.
I wouldn't care if they bring the STI back just for 2 years or extend the life cycle of the WRX beyond 5 years as long as the STI is in existence on the platform to give the STI life again.
I saw this car unveiled in person at the Wicked Big Meet in Stafford Springs, CT. Travis Pastrana drove it and was sliding it around. Pretty nice car. Would not get rid of my STI for it though LOL
Glad to see your home Raiti 🏡
One more crazy week to go!
They need to bring the real STI and not the knock offs
Wish they made an sti version of the sabaru wrx
Im not going to necessarily argue the fact that this is NOT an STi replacement. HOWEVER, it is 95% there. True, no DCCD, but for 99% of us, that doesn't matter. It has the best suspension I've ever driven in. The brakes were the shortcoming but that's now fixed. Plus, with the adaptive dampers, this thing is a win.
It’s like they’ll give you everything but the thing you WANT TO BUY…(the Sti)
I crossed the WRX -> TLX bridge. I don't think this will bring be back, but I love to see it and I really miss shifting my own gears sometimes.
They can’t figure out their customer base. It’s easy, subie rumble, reliability, less cladding, and more power, and Sti back. To easy
Tell me about it! It's like how can you mess it up?
Who told Subaru to abruptly cancel the WRX STI?
It's not like there wasn't enough room with the Elantra N, GR Corolla, MK8/MK8.5 Golf R, FL5 Civic Type R, and DE5 Integra Type S. There was and IS STILL plenty of room for the WRX STI to be in and there IS STILL plenty of time to bring back the STI and extend the life cycle of the current gen WRX for the STI to have its comeback.
@@antoinelee-thomas9536it breaks my heart
Seems like they did, despite the whinging online the VB is selling lot hot cakes for this type of car. 24k sales in just the US.
Well they finally delivered an engine that can be modded and tuned without blowing head gaskets and ringlands. Lol
2023 had the most WRX sales in a year ever, so why don’t you think Subaru knows their customers?
A great video brother. Joe, im so glad i own my 2020 WRX/STI and im going to keep my Bluebaru forever man. Im @75K and all stock, no wing and no power mods, just a vortex generator, mudflaps by Rok Blox and rain guards. Subies forever. STI Forever.😊
Digital Gauge is lame. Analog ones are the best. That's just for me though 😄
I agree. I like classic gauges as digital gauges don’t change the driving experience to me.
I’ve been following you since the time you mostly reviewed Subaru cars.
That is so cool my friend! Thank you for being so supportive!
I think this is the U.S version of the Australians ClubSpec with 19" wheels, brembos and recaro seats, STI logos, Alacantara steering wheel, bodykit and wing.

If only they would do a Sti hatch, manual, 400-450hp.... Subaru wouldn't be able to keep up with orders.
Hatch does not sell, that's proven back in 2012.
I enjoy my WRX GT
I’m so glad to hear that

I'm so disappointed that Subaru Corp. has not brought back the BRAT or the Baja. That market is HOT for trucks that won't break the bank. Yes, there's the Maverick, but it's not a Subaru.

I’m lucky I’m from Canada, the prices aren’t too bad here for the WRX.
( I just wish it had the HK sound system )
Not sure if I want WR Blue or Black paint when I get this!
Agreed! I just got my 2024 RS (Canadian TR) and miss the HK sound from my previous 2022 sport tech. But the rest of the car is so good I don’t care anymore. The suspension, recaros and brakes are such a step up Im mind blown. I really enjoy getting in it to drive everyday compared to the 2022 I had.
@@SuzukiKid400 happy for you man! Beautiful car! I bet it’s super fun to drive 🥳
I have the BRZ RS, and it is a night and day difference from the base / sport tech.
The changes with the suspension, dampers, and brembo brakes are worth every penny!
Might wait until winter to consider the tS!
Didn't the STI come with mechanical Torsen differentials that do not slip until one wheel is moving 4 times faster than the other? Does the TS come with front and rear Torsens?
I love it! No STI obviously. but if you want a primarily daily-driver, just better with all kinds of performance adds, this is a winner. Subaru pricing is still much better than most other companies and you can always get for MSRP or less unlike most other enthusiast cars. I’ll probably be trading my 22 limited for 1 if there isn’t any news on an STI by then. Do wish they offered performance all seasons though.
Joe I’m just going to buy a second STI.
I like your style, dude. 🤠
Hi Joe, great video! Do you know if the TS will be available in all colors or just one color? I heard it was just going to be offere in WRB color is that correct?
It will be offered in many colors including WR Blue
Nice car and review, these things are getting just too expensive. I’m priced out, have been lately
Everything is getting too expensive
It's genuinely insane. I bought my 2020 STI for 36k with an STI short throw shifter tossed in. This is madness.
I’m confused
Why is there a Sti badge on the rmp gage
Subaru watering down the brand
“Programmed by STi”
They have been doing that in Japan for a while now… STI badges slapped on CVT only WRX, Forester and Levorgs…
The actual STI needs to come back.
I never had a sti, but needed a cheaper fun sedan. I’ve had a Evo IX when they came out and it was fun. I really wanted a sti, but wanted only newest model. The VB only has the WRX. I got a 22 WRX limited for 34k so not bad. That said I wish it was a sti. Just kinda lack luster, especially coming out of a 2020 M340i. The car needs better suspension, better brakes, and more power. It does the job, but I could sell it tomorrow and not miss it at all. Still better than the 55k plus price of a Type R, Type S, or GRC.
I want the WRX wagon
What do you think Joe, VA STi or VB if you were shopping today?
So.. i dunno what this guy is talking about, every VB has a center viscous differential. The rear and front are open but you are welcome to install many of dozen options from Cusco into your rear and front, which i what i am doing. Also, my 2022 cost me 28.6k+taxes, and i know ppl who got into a 23 for same price. So for 1600+installation of Cusco diffs, you have yourself a proper awd car for less than 30k.
Then you need an Accessport and competent tuner for an e50 mix, and car will make 400awhp and 450awtq+. What else can you buy that makes 450hp and 500tq at less than 32k msrp?
Yes, you absolutely do not need this garbage trim tS or rS or any other bS. Just buy a base wrx and enjoy. Or watch me enjoy mine and cry some more.
As close as it gets, it will never be the same as the sti
All those suspension and brake upgrades for what?
So it can cost 10k more than an Elantra N
I love it Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video 👍
I wish they would offer auto rev matching .. even if it can be disabled like hill assist.
I agree with you for sure!
And just give us the STI trans and Diffs.
We can do the rest with mods and tuneing.
Oh yes, a 2009 370Z tech.
@@bc8Sooners Tech you didn't even get on the base 24 Z. lol
I have a black 22 vb.. basic things done, window tint, etc.. it looks clean. Use it as daily driver. My opinion, Subaru is dropping the ball. The top trim should be like the TS but come also with: upgraded exhaust, better transmission and 320-350ish horsepower.
Plenty of car for someone who wants to buy and not mod yet room for modders.
Give the people (most people) what they want.
This feels like a new IPhone every year.
if they are going to charge 45k why not put the sti trans to it as well and bump up the power to 300hp...grc has 300hp type r has 310hp and they both come around 40k to 45k
Crazy to think i bought a wrx premium in 2018 for only 27k.
Very disappointed in it getting a digital gauge package. Not a fan, I'd rather have analog speedo & tach.
Subaru just needs to make another STI. Oh yeahhhh.
WRX S4 and Levorg STi Sport have had digital gauge clusters in Japan for years. I’m sure even some other trims or models probably too.
"We want what we can't have", for me Levorg STI
It's definitely not an STI but it's definitely a nice trim!
Although with all these new trims, it does make me think that a 2026 STI is possible
STI 400 hp that’s what I want
Any chance of changes to the IS350 for 2025?
How many trims do we need to keep jacking the price of the base WRX to get an sti. 50K sti isn’t going to sell at all. Better go the hybrid route “2025 civic hybrid route” and keep the price under or around 40K
Change the dashboard design especially the bigger screen.
45k wrx that doesn't even have the stout STI 6 speed transmission, sounds like a bad buy and waste of money honestly
I wonder what this will do for the prices of the last gen STI??
i really dont think the ts wheels is gonna be the same wheels as the tr. on subarus own website it states that the ts will recieve its own exclusive 19" wheels. i was totally gonna buy a set of tr wheels to throw on my 24 obw but now im gonna sit back and wait to see what wheels come on the ts. hopefully its something made by bbs or rays like in japan.
Plastic cladding over wheel wells is a real dislike

@@RaitisRides Welcome
40k or actually 35k sounds more like it or no one really will buy. I’ve owned a 2019 STi, 2003 and 2004 WRX. I can not believe how high the WRX is now. And I’m looking to buy. I have seen WRXs under MSRP getting down to 29k. So they are hurting. Everyone is right now so if they don’t come in at 40k or less it’s going to be hard on them. Maybe if it’s 40k I might be interested but 271HP c’mon that’s not an STi and not worth over 40k!!! But you are probably right it’s probably 45-47k or even 50+ is what they will ask you wait and see. It’s sad what they have done with the WRX.
I'd like a video talking more about the STI and differences against the new WRX
Saying it's not an sti is a disservice to this car. The VB WRX out-performs the STi and it's a way better platform. The only thing it's missing is the DCCD and trans. But I'd gladly trade that for a engine and suspension that is far superior to anything ever put inna STi.
As a 2016 sti owner, this isn't about comparing this to an sti. This is about innovation. Just comparing a base '21 wrx to a base '22. They really added .4 liters of displacement with only 3 more hp? With a lower mpg rating? And the cvt version somehow gets even worse?? All they did was shape a new body and throw in the engine from the legacy xt. At that point they should've just given the legacy a stick and killed the wrx. They're getting shit on by the competition while charging luxury type money now. If this ts is really $47k then thats literally an audi s3 right there, and you dont even get a sunroof... I understand the new turning potential on these vbs but the average person doesnt want to pay even more money to tune their daily and void their warranty. Point is they haven't cared one bit about their loyal enthusiasts for a long time now and its just sad.
I have a 2022 WRX GT with 54.5k miles . Got auto cause was commuting from NW jersey to’ Manhattan, queens, Connecticut, staten island, Philly and occasionally Maryland and a manual just didn’t feel fun in constant heavy traffic.
Now that I resigned and work more locally it am craving to go back to a manual. But as for now Subaru hasn’t released anything that wants me to trade in my GT.
I guess I’ll keep waiting.
Try out the new TR. it’s like night and day compared to your 2022! I just upgraded from a 2022 and it’s like a completely different car.
I wonder if Subaru is going to release a small pickup truck. I’ve seen videos of a possible small truck but wondered if that’s just a rumor or is true?
Seats, great, wheels, tires brakes, great. Like the manual transmission, but for the price, value is not quite there. They need to drop the price and they will have a winner. Let's see, but not hopeful.
Fingers crossed
People really gotta learn what inflation is before complaining about prices, adjusting for inflation a base wrx is cheaper than it used to be
...some old school large round fog lights would be cool !!!
Dude even HYUNDAI came out with a 300hp car. Subaru what is HAPPENING?
Greed definitely taking over
Subaru already explained there is no more sti (no sti manual transmission). Looks like STI for now is just STI 'styling'. We can get Subaru Performance Transmission (CVT) with si-drive, drive modes and dampers; ...but they can't call it STI. In Australia, we already have a TS version (CVT only). We also have a club spec (manual) with tuned steering & suspension, brembo brakes, 19" Potenza, sti large rear wing, ...but can't label it as STI.
They are not real STIs
I guess Subaru wants to give to us the sti styling, ...but for sti like specs, we have to mod it by ourselves. 2021 STI manual transmission, Perin, Cobb, Haltech, etc, etc.

I guess two things are better than none.
So they figure trims don’t bring up price, like Toyota, where nothing is done to the engine. IDC what “extras” your car has, if it has the same engine and same HP, it’s the same car! Subaru is banking off that mindset
Hood scoop looks like a snorkel, fix the bumper, bring back STI branding.its a monster, electric is creeping up
I totally agree with you!
Did you straight up? Ask Subaru why they're not bringing the STI back instead of towing with everybody and what's with the black cladding that stuff just fades.
Subaru of America isn't interested in R&D and certification of a brand new engine/trans for a low-volume unit. The Big 3 continue to be the Outback/Forester/Crosstrek. Enthusiasts' complaints will continue to fall on deaf ears with SOA.
Need an Outback STI with no roof rails!!
