Growing up on one of the causeways connecting Miami to Miami Beach, we would ALWAYS fish at this vacant lot on the island on which I was raised. We had everything to catch, moonfish, stone crabs and grunts by the ton! We would eat them every way, fried, sauteed, baked, boiled in soup--you name it. One of the truly underrated eating fish.
I would have to agree with you. They are very good eating fish but it seems that many people do not keep them anymore. They used to be a working man’s staple down here in the Keys. Grits and Grunts.
I grew up fishing the first bridge closest to Miami Beach. I lived in an Apartment on 19th and Alton in the 80s. Used to fish that canal too. Biggest Mangrove I've ever caught was at night on that bridge and the biggest Lobster I've ever seen was off that bridge. We used to crab all the time too.
@CaptainDave305 I imagine it is good. You can't fish the bridges anymore. Only the sides. Doesn't get near the pressure. Has great water flow. Big tarpon and Snook there and always had monster Jack's.
Oh yeah, corn with fish sounds perfect. Had a dancer living on my boat a week. She loved catching Grunts. The name made perfect sense to her. Lol Did you pick your boat because it could deal with scratches in the Mangroves.
Sounds like a good time. The fact that I did not have to worry about scratches especially on oyster beds definitely weighed heavy on my decision. Haven’t regretted it a day.
Looks good!

I wonder how the fishery in that area is now. Hopefully it is as good as it was when you fished it.

Thank you. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Fresh grunts are delicious. I like your portable table too very convenient for boat camping
Yes they are! Definitely worth keeping.
I fried up a ladyfish I caught last week into fritters it was amazing. Definitely will be trying some grunts, thank you!
I have not tried Ladyfish. I will keep in mind that it is worth trying the next time I catch one.
Capt. Did you grow up just north of Orlando? Great videos, keep up the good work.
I grew up in SC. Lived there until I was 18. Joined the Military and traveled around quite a bit.
Excellent video David!! what is the brand of your boat? I've been looking for something like that.
Thank you! That’s a Whaly 500R boat. I highly recommend them. Excellent all around boat.

It’s my favorite dish. Corn-fish!!!
It’s pretty good for sure.
Grunts make great bait. I would use them to catch something bigger and better to eat. 😊
I do use them for bait sometimes. Great cut bait or the small ones are good for grouper.
still hating that new motor?
I think I finally found the correct prop for it. It is performing much better now. Still wish I would have just thrown a 90 on there.
@@CaptainDave305 that's good progress
Grunt, Porgy, Snappers, and Cuda are all great white meat.
100% agree. Not many people eat Cuda but I do for sure!
Fresh grunt is ok, but if you soak it in fresh water overnight, it is even better.
I'm going to give that a try!
@@CaptainDave305 Works especially good for fish tacos. Good luck and good video!!
