This was a very well-constructed short essay, good job🥰
Let's not forget the added scenes that David Production added to build up Kira a lot sooner than in the manga.
praying they give the same treatment to my man Tooru when the JoJolion anime rolls around
@@wilbert3799 i’ll love to see that in my retirement home
@@Magic_Ice when you’re 89 years old?
@@Magic_Ice same
@@wilbert3799 IDK. I can’t see any time where you could have organically introduced Tooru, a college student who works at the university hospital, earlier in the plot of Jojolion, a story that revolves around college students who repeatedly visit the university hospital. There’s just no scenes he could possibly fit in.
I may not have read the manga but what I thought was neat was that most of the side villains and even Kira himself was hinted in certain scenes. It really embraces the whole “Anyone can be a potential villain” even when jojo characters are easy to spot from normal people.
The hints of Kira doesn't exist in the manga, only in the anime. Anyway the "anyone could be the Villain" thing was good.
And pretty much a lot of the “slice of life“ episodes were a setup for the final Act,which I really liked
Didn’t know it at the time but one of the greatest rewards was going back to watch episode 1(or 2) of part 4 was noticing that most of the cast (kira included i think) were looking at Josuke when he saved that woman from being mugged outside the convenient store
Also those moments where you can see characters that will show up later in big crowds
Not even. Especially Kira
There is so much love in the anime adaptation of Jojos that you can tell the people behind it really cared about the source material. The July 15th arc was amazing, I loved every second becouse the town felt like a town, it felt planed and dangerous, you knew Josuke couldn't show up becouse you know where he is, they truly made an amazing job.
Only if part 6 got that love. *Cough* Bad CGI (Small problem) *Cough* *Cough* Batch release (Big problem)

@areuseriousrn3343yeah I didn't even notice the cgi
Jojo's anime adaptation in general is amazing. You can tell the animators read the manga for their enjoyment not just for work.
Ye, sometimes i hear some fans when referring to anime adaptions prefer 100% accuracy, especially in a post Promised neverland world. They tend to site things like the adaptions of Dragonball as examples.
And like???
Y e a h, that adaption definitely wasn’t good and suffered from a lot of meddling from across the yard. While it had it’s faults, i think anime-only fans can tend to undermine the little changes often made to an anime so the story flows so seamlessly that people don’t even notice what they did differently.
Stuff like the iconic super saiyan transformation is a good example of that.
In the manga, its just a quick, full spread page turn.
In the anime? Insane lighting effects, tons of establishing shots, gokus face going from shocked to angry, shivering and trembling, all before just exploding into this haunting image of gokus white eyes as a lighting flash enters us into the actual transformation.
All before he ACTUALLY transforms 😂😂
There are better examples from the anime, but i felt that was the most obvious to cite.
I think some people who shout for complete accuracy never quite understand what that actually entails.
Fundamentally, manga and anime are 2 different mediums. Some things were created specifically to work within that medium, what works in one doesn’t always carry over to the other.
To adapt something to a new medium with “100 accuracy” might often mean neglecting to actually take advantage of the medium the work is ACTUALLY being adapted into.
@@theradionicrevival8068 and sometimes, going too accurate also hurts. Attack on Titan is an example of that. The manga at start was so shit that WiT had to do their own thing with the anime. Many of the scenes are changed and also hints about future arcs are thrown in there. Ony problemthat i had with S4 part 2 is that they are too much faithful. Which is thankfully gone with part 2 but some things still aren't changed, especially the Annie return. It got downgraded. And i don't even want to talk about the ending. Hopefully they change it.
I mean who wouldn’t enjoy reading JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure?
@@CoolManCoolMan123 mob psycho 100 is also a pretty good example.
Due to the release and basic structure of the webcomic, the actual first chapters of the story don’t exactly serve as the best introduction to the storys themes, overvall tone and characters.
So Studio Bones pretty me reshuffled and frankensteined together chapters and arcs in the first season to create a more consistent throughline of escalation in tension, stakes and information.
The chapter that first episode was based on happened far later in the story. But the chapter was standalone enough that it could be reworked into a first episode. Ntm it was made later on in the series’ run so the webcomics author (ONE) had a clearer vision of what the story and characters would be by that point, so everything was a little more refined and tightly written.
On a tv format, that chapter could serve as a better introduction to the world and characters better than the actual first chapter was.
It they just played things straight and just adapted episodes by just adapting rhe first 3 chapters in succession
Mp100’s tone would be all over the place and probably not garner as much popularity on that front.
I won’t lie and act like this part of why i was never all too much of a fan of how most anime like my hero academia tend to be adapted. Often just mostly 1:1 adaptions with little creativity or intrigue put into it.
Ik its not an anime but i feel shows like Invincible are peak examples of adaptions that we’re all talking about.
However, in order to make adaptions like DiU, mob psycho and invincible, it’s a VERY huge matter of time, money and hindsight, something most studios working behind anime (especially the big ones like mha) rarely get enough of
So I completely understand why the “play is safe” approach is so popular and widespread.
My only issue is just with fans that are so used to it that they truly believe that that way of adaption is objectively better and how things should always be no matter.
It grossly misunderstands the dilemma faced with adapting…well…anything-
@@CoolManCoolMan123 cmon (cool) man aot's ending ain't THAT bad
fingers crossed that part 7's adaptation is also great
netflix: hello
It'd have to be a movie or something. One of the most commonly mentioned BIG issues is that horses are VERY hard to animate. There's a lot of muscles, and it would be a little bit awkward to CGI them. It'd be a lot of work just to make a movie, but an animated series would be near impossible, or just take many years to complete. The JoJo hype would die out.
@@bluejacket4429 I see your point about the horses being hard to animate, but part 7 is just too long to put in a single film. I think they should separate into parts, each being 12/13 episodes of top tier animation; the hype won't die in that case considering part 7 being one of the most exciting jojo sagas
@@bluejacket4429 if they have to then they can be smart about the shots of the anime to reduce costs
@@bluejacket4429 wit studio animated a lot of horses in some episodes of aot and this was really clean
Nice video! Let me add this about the first portion of the video (Harvest-Cinderella-Kira-SHA arcs): while it may seem that Araki planned Aya's role in these arcs right from the start, as stated in the video, Araki works with a weekly schedule mindset when writing JoJo in WSJ, which doesn't give him a lot of space for planning ahead (aside from the actual beginning and finale of the part)... Araki never thought of using Cinderella as an escape plan for Kira until near the time he needed to write the conclusion of the SHA arc... He stated this in Jump Remix Part 4 (2004):
"I didn’t think at all about using Cinderella to change his appearance. When he was cornered and I was thinking hard about how Kira might escape, lightning struck me and I realized ‘hey I could just use Cinderella which I wrote about last episode!’ I’m basically thinking at a week-by-week interval and never about what happens after that. I don’t know about Jump manga these days, but it’s all about how I make this week interesting for me."
While this is true, having a character be introduced then immediately die makes the audience feel like that was the plan.
Araki always had this talent of somehow connecting things that it leaves me baffled sometimes.
Yeah this is important to point out as it adds context.
Shigechi's harvest ran for 7 weeks (7 chapters)
Yoshikage Kira Wants to Live Quietly ran for 5 (5 chapters)
Yukako Yamagishi Dreams of Cinderella ran for 6 (6 chapters)
Sheer Heart Attack ran for 11 (11 chapters)
Uncertain if there were any breaks in between the chapters scattered throughout but assuming it's all contiguous, that's 29 total chapters, 29 weeks or 7 and a half months, the better part of a year. Due to this length of time during serialization, Shigechi did have room for grieving at the time as well as Dr. Aya. Nevertheless, David's decision to reorder the chapters for a more compact (time-wise) viewing experience is a good one.
@@anonysalt yeah but rereading and or adapting it would have been jarring
What do I especially like in the JoJo anime? A lot of the strange noises elicited by the characters, the very spot-on music direction for many of the episodes, the awesome decision to replace Mickey Mouse's mention with "Bugs Bunny"
The micky mouse part is sad. Copyright. And got Warner bro's holding Part 6.
No more *"This shit ain't Disney"* becoming a meme.
On the other hand, *"This shit ain't Looney/Tooney"* will be made. Maybe.
Warner Bros Studio Theme Park is a thing in Florida, so it might work out if they need to change the Disney world lines.
@@underpaidmercenary9797 Shoulda been Polnareffland instead.
@@mr.herobrinegaming844 True
@@mr.herobrinegaming844 I don't even understand how they are going to make that arc work, stuff like Snow White and The Big Bad wolf are stuff Disney has done and it would be odd that they mention it in a Warner Bros setting. I know they are public domain and it would be legal but it would be odd.
Completely agree about the July 15th arc. Watching it week to week the name of the arc alone got me super excited because it made it feel like this wasn't just a bunch of side quests, but instead a suspenseful string of connected events with an impactful climax.
Part 4 is by far my favorite. The small town setting is perfect for the episodic villain of the week formula and once Kira is introduced it turns into a dramatic murder mystery cat and mouse game. The tension and pace ramp up until the insane finale with Kira’s new ability. It’s just so good
Rest easy, Billy Kametz. You really gave each of your roles your all.
His memory will be unbreakable.
He's dead????
Joskue noooo
I find it absolutely criminal that not enough people talk about how good of an adaptation the Part 4 anime is, down to super small additions like Kira simply looking at Cinderella's shop for, what, 3 or 4 seconds? But it adds so much
amazing part, forever my favorite
Josuke may not be my favorite Jojo but part is IMO the best part. It feels so cohesive and smooth. I love it.
So, just to alleviate some potential discrediting to the writing of DiU's manga:
I still wish they could've at least fit in the end of the Transmission Tower arc in the anime. I wouldn't consider that whole moment "fluff" - that stuff is fun to refer back to when one is to guess what Josuke will do in the final scuffle with Kira with his heart of glass-blood maneuver. When he nearly slips off of the Tower from Toyohiro's blood, he says "I can't heal the blood that's already here!" which can be taken as a subtle hint to the said battle-maneuver of Crazy D - which was the strike that led to his ultimate defeat & death. I already talked a bunch about this aspect on other websites, and might have to do a video on it eventually.
Plus, how can they not include Kira's on-the-spot distance measuring? Like, you know, the thing he does at the start of Part 8 as a cool callback??? It's just these two things and a few comedy bits that I consider to be blemished in the anime.
This was a fantastic video. As my favorite part, Diamond is Unbreakable feels somewhat personal to me, albeit there always was something weird about the manga I couldn't put my finger on. Today, with your amazing explanations, you were able to clear this long lasting doubt! The editing is fantastic and I especially like the choice of background music, as well as the narration. Good luck on your UA-cam career, I'll be watching with great interest.
If anyone has watched the new Sandman series, this way of restructuring and hinting villains and characters throughout to make the story cohesive is very similar in both the adaptations.
The use of Kira's theme on its crescendo right when the Cinderella beauty salon appears was very cool.
Even in the world of anime, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is by far it's own class of adaptation. Even the great Berserk could not match how Jojo was handled in animation!
nicely written and edited, good work
Its was damn near perfect adaptation..but damn i really wanted the upper lip lol but overall it was aesthetically pleasing. I can see the look they were aiming for in this adaptation wanting to represent the aesthetic of 90s anime which was good i would say
never thought I wanted to see batman choke-zaping someone while crazy noisy bizarre town is playing in the background until now
4:52 PERFECT TIMING ON THAT REVEAL
You can see the difference
Manga part 4 feels like it was written moment by moment
Anime part 4 feels like it was planned with all the mini inclusions
What an awesome video! Can you talk about the adaptation of part 5? I really liked how they moved everyone’s backstories around and the additional scenes of La Squadra!
Yasuko Kobayashi is the head writer on jojos and while she’s far from the only one to give credit, i do think we owe a large part of Pt 4’s more favorable structuring to her, she started off writing tokusatsu in the 90s and has consistently shown great writing chops- esp when it comes to manga adaptations. worth checking out her other work if u get the chance
It doesn't matter which version of the story you prefer, there will always be a constant:
*DON'T MAKE FUN OF JOSUKE'S POMPADOUR.*
Part 4 was such a huge step up from part 3 in terms of writing. I'm glad Araki gave the villain more involvement in the greater plot, and everything that David Prod. changed/added to improve the story. Even with this amazing cast of characters, I don't think a purely villain-of-the-week formula that part 3 followed would keep me interested.
The anime showing Kira walking about in plain sight throughout the show was also a great touch.
if part 7 didn't exist, part 4 would be the best part
I genuinely feel like Part 4 is the best part of JoJo. All of them have their own strengths, don't get me wrong, but Part 4 does so great in pretty much every aspect. The characters, the visuals (even though they're top tier in every part), the world is nice, until all of it is taken over by the terror that is Yoshikage Kira, and the battles of Part 4 are awesome as well. I still need to watch Part 5, but Part 4 will always be my favorite
Imo Part 2 > Part 4 > Part 7 > Part 5 > Part 3 > Part 8 > Part 6 > Part 1
Part 5 will take a bit to get interesting but once it kicks off it's fire.Still throughout the entirety of it while watching i was considering as a lower part in contrast to my ranking but thankfully the last arc is as exciting as the Bites The Dust arc and some of the things that had been bugging habing raised many questions are actually answered in the final episodes. So , very good Part , keep it going!
R.I.P Billy Kametz

This is a great video. I recently bought all of the Part 4 Manga and plan on reading it all, though I'm only half way through the second volume. I've already seen all of part 4, and am caught up to the anime, but wanted to experience Part 4 through the manga. I was reading the chapter names and order, and found something to be off around the Shigechi's Harvest / Sheer Heart Attack arcs, but I guess this explains it!
This the kind of jojo content we need on youtube! I would love to hear your thoughts on part 6, it gets a lot of hate and is severely misunderstood by a lot of the community. It's not perfect, but its flaws aren't greater than those of any of the previous parts, and it achieves the same heights of those parts and then some. Would love an analytical take on it
Honestly yeah, part 6 is incredibly underrated. For me, it has a slow start but the climax and fights are some of my favourites in the series.
@@jacktduggan58 I don't know if it's just because it was the first Jojo manga I read, but I really enjoyed the start of Stone Ocean. The setting was just really interesting, functioning differently than real prisons in some key ways that really go a long way in making it feel bizarre and memorable. I also liked seeing Jolyne become accustomed with prison life and her ability. Sadly the anime cut a lot of prison specific scenes, but I understand why. I really like how the ending of part 6 where Pucci is defeated takes place in the prison again, and you instantly recognize precisely where in the prison Emporio is, and in relation to the ghost room. It's a pretty thoroughly developed setting and I'm glad Stone Ocean effectively ended where it began, really selling that the universe came full circle. It was a nice goodbye to the prison too, which I didn't realize I missed until the part with Emporio. Even some of the fights early on have prison guards that change the course of the battle, with the characters having to work around them. Notably with the Marilyn Manson fight, or with the foo fighters introduction and the exploding bracelets.
@@jacktduggan58 True. It’s sad that the anime will keep it underrated after Netflix blew it. It’s sad how much the hype died out simply due to the way it was released.

I lived Jojo part 4 so much, its def my favorite jojo
My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
i usually hate Jojo adaptations because they usually just copypast everything in the manga without really adaptating anything. but that was a really cool insight and well-based opinion. thanks for this
I just love the overall tone of Part 4, it's my favourite, the music definitely helped.

i wish more changes would be made in jojo anime from the manga. mainly alot of the exposition. The exposition in the manga is important because you don't get to see the pages in motion so you need something telling you what exactly happened. but it's not necessary in the anime when you actually get to see it happen.
I don't need bullet number 2 to tell me exactly what happened after i watched it, it feels like that could be cut out. i understand being faithful to the manga, but you should make cuts when necessary

speaking of adaptations fixing the original content. I believe School-Live! did a similar good job on some things although them bringing a character earlier than their introduction kind of messed up the flow of things for a bit.
I know I'll get ripped to shreds but
I remember when the DiU anime was confirmed to be in production, I was ecstatic that my favorite part would get adapted. I was so fucking disappointed, David Pro fucking butchered Part 4. Cut/condensed chapters, cheap outsourced animation, god awful character designs that look nothing like Araki's art during the peak of DiU. The only people who will disagree with me are people who started with the anime. And the anime isn't bad at all, it's very good. It's just that the manga is a wholly better experience.
I'd Argue Stone Ocean's adaption was changed more, considering Araki was still kinda figuring out and evolving his art style for the first 20 or so chapters of Diamond is Unbreakable.
i cant believe i noticed this but is the book at 0:05 no longer human by osamu dazai?
It's actually A Room of One's Own. Haven't heard of that Dazai novel, might check it out
I love part 4
For every stride they pulled off with the story restructure of part 4's anime adaptation, i feel it's taken away form the god awful decision of giving the animation to a third party studio and absolutely butchering the animation quality, especially on the "Deadly Queen" reveal. I hate it, it was like the thing i was looking forward to most when the anime adaption was coming out.
